The least shabby hotel in a town full of them

Even my high school French was not enough to satisfy the clerk who greeted me. She came off as arrogant, annoyed, and lacking the time to do her job of helping me park and check in—looking at me with a consistently disdainful countenance. Our room boasted a lamp falling off the wall, and a desk chair that looked as though it had been through several gang riots. The restaurant was very good and somewhat redeemed things. If this property is representative of the Mercure line, I would be cautious—but again, I didn’t see any other properties in this town that might be better, except maybe the Alba.

We stayed for two nights as a family with 3 people and the room was very cramped. An old hotel and far from being the Mercure standard of 4-star quality like several others around the world that we have stayed in, mainly in France, where Accor is based. The space in the corridor between the beds and closet was barely enough to walk around, we had to take turns to move around inside the room. The room was too hot at night to sleep, even with the heater turned off, as air conditioning was not available. After asking at reception I was advised to open the window, as the central heating was still working. Disappointment.

This was my second stay at this hotel, having enjoyed a room with a balcony on my first stay I again requested the same but alas no such luck ! The staff are amazing but the rooms are beginning to look very tired . The reception staff are incredible and speak many languages the lady restaurant manager is a delight, they seem to have a new chef this year , much better last year.
