Noisy & stuffy

We were advised the room would be small but, in fact, it was tiny. It was stuffy and windows would not open. The room was noisy. Drilling was taking place and it sounded like it was in the room next door. I complained twice and nothing happened. My wife was in St. Mary's hospital and I was staying at the Mercure as it was close by. I was worried about my wife and slept badly at night so I needed a rest in the afternoon. Because of the noise, I could not get that rest. I was livid and deliberately made a scene in the lobby. I went to the hospital and dozed in the chair in my wife's room. When I came back in the early evening, the noise was still happening. It stopped at about 6.30pm. The next morning I checked out.

Good location but extremely outdated and noisy

The hotel is extremely outdated, the walls are unbelievably thin and you can practically hear the people breathing in the next room. I would have expected a lot more from a Mercure.

It was an easy trip from the airport, and the woman at check in was incredibly lovely, but I was disappointed. It was necessary to turn the AC on, even though it was cold outside, because the rooms became stuffy and hot. The air conditioner barely worked. We tried opening the window, but it doesn’t open well for air flow, only the loud noises from the street and construction right outside. With everything closed, the walls seemed super thin and we could hear everything. The most frustrating part… the staff would open our door without waiting for a response from us! Our Do Not Disturb was hanging on the door too. This happened at least 5 times in our week stay. The area was also just too far from many attractions that we preferred to see.

Convenient No Frills

Perfectly located for Paddington Station and the Heathrow Express. The building is fantastic but the interior needs to be refreshed. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The double room I had was very small to the point there was nowhere to store luggage, but the bathroom was spacious with a powerful shower and the bed was very comfy. It's great to see a focus on more sustainable hospitality with refillable shower gel, shampoo and soap instead of single use containers, but that didn't extend to the other complementary items in the room including individually plastic-wrapped biscuits. Also nice to see little touches like shaving and toothbrush kits. It would be better to manage guest expectations by not overselling the "fitness suite" which is a room big enough for 2 people to workout comfortably, with about 10 equipment stations crammed into it so that noone can work out effectively. The food at Frany and Benny's restaurant was OK but the service was excellent and very friendly. Overall - 2.5 stars with potential to be a 3.5 with some care and attention.
