Lovely place, but rock hard beds

Jenny S TripAdvisor review

This hotel is very nicely decorated and well appointed .. rooms are very clean, reasonably spacious and have a balcony .. most of which overlook the large pool area - some overlook the ocean area. There are plenty of trees and foliage about, but no green grass. Location is in one of the quieter parts of Koh Samui, so no loud night club music. Plenty of dining options around the area too - spoilt for choice here. If you want to go to central Samui where it is very crowded and where the markets are, taxi fares are not cheap, and it is almost double to get back. If you want to climb into the back of a songthaew there are plenty of those about too. Pool area has a number of LILOs about, however rude European tourists seem to think they are theirs and not anybody else’s to use. They come very early in the day and reserve them by placing towels and then disappearing for sometimes hours before they are ready to use them. All tourists here have the same rights to use all of the facilities. Staff should enforce what their very small signs say that this practice should not occur. But nobody does or says anything. My question is why bother putting the signage up - might be an idea to place one of the signs in each room. Beds here are rock hard - no “give” in them at all. It is almost like lying on the floor. We had a very uncomfortable time sleeping here. House cleaning staff are very friendly to assist in any way. Plenty of pillows are provided. If you like hard beds, this place is for you. Breakfast was good for a large hotel, but not as many choices that I have seen in other hotels of this size. Staff are accommodating and very friendly and seem to enjoy their jobs. Staff who make the omelettes should cook them for a little longer as the couple I had were still raw in the middle. Hotel also has a gym which was well used when we were there. Beach is beautiful and lovely to walk on.

Good but some room for improvement.

We had a nice stay in this hotel. First, we got a very warm welcome and had the chance also to change the room we did not want. Since we booked sea-view, we expected this also. However, we go located on the second floor of the new building in the backyard with a view towards the sea but blocked by the bridge section between both building units. Personally seen, this is no sea-view. Therefore, we asked to change and got a better room on the third floor. The main issue in this hotel: there are only a few rooms with sea-view. Those in the back of the building towards the sea and those upfront the building, but only on upper level since upfront towards the beach there is a restaurant building and a pool villa. Not sure if rooms, which might have a slightly view on the sea are sold same way as real sea-view. Be careful when booking. Another issue is if you do not book “Deluxe” rooms, you might get a room in the old building across the main street without any view, another breakfast and a separate pool. The rooms in the new building are really spacious and nicely equipped, modern and clean. The cleaning was done each day immediately once we left the room and was excellent! The pool towels are given without any problems by the room cleaning lady, so no need for cards and deposit. The hotel grounds are nice, also stylish. The pool is clean and nice; of course warm due to the weather also. The issue is this hotel has is the lack of sun-beds and even worse sun-umbrellas. Without reservation in the morning, you will fail to get one. Some sun-beds at the beach are available, but also there you are missing umbrellas. More and more of them are also broken. Which requires urgent replacement. Since there is not sufficient space for additional sun-beds at the pool, we would recommend the management to add more beds on the rooftop of the restaurant. Put the furniture somewhere else, nobody is using it, neither on daytime nor at night. The bar chairs are sufficient. I am confident that would improve the experience. The breakfast was small, but fresh each day. European warm dishes were done a la minute, Asian food was also available, plenty of fruits, Muesli etc. Since it is a small buffet there would be the possibility to change the dishes each day (change of assorted sliced cold meats, fruits, Mueslis, marmalade, Danish patisserie, bread). That would also increase the experience of this hotel while keeping the high standard of freshness. The restaurant offers a great dinner, nothing to complain. We went there once at the fire show. However, the prices in the restaurant are higher of course but still okay. The staff is really helpful and attentive, really amazing. We asked to extend our stay for another five days and they did their best to make this happen. In general, we can recommend this hotel and would go for it again.

Beautiful hotel, great (& recents) rooms, friendly and helpful staff. We didn’t want to leave Koh Samui and especially this hotel. Beautiful swimming pool with direct view to the sea. Easy access to the beach (even though there was too much wind so we couldn’t swim there). The pool bar & carpe diem bar as well as rooftop bar were great. There could be a bit more sun chair as it was sometimes difficult to find a spot (some people are reserving seats in the morning and lots of the people are just staying at the pool for full day). Not too many kids at the hotel which was nice (and they have a dedicated area for swimming). The massage station down the hotel on the beach was a pleasant surprise and we really enjoyed going there. The ladies are just amazing there! Finally breakfast was good, and especially nice to have an egg station and that food was rotating (just a pity that banana pancakes are not part of the « standard » food ). It was also super nice to be able to rent scooters directly from the hotel as well as organizing day trips from the hotel too. All in all, we greatly enjoyed our stay and I couldn’t recommend more this hotel, it’s a real gem, very peaceful ! Close to central Chaweng & from restaurants & convenience stores but still far enough to be quiet. We wished we could have stayed longer there !

I booked a Standard room after looking at the picture of the property. When I reached there, I got to know that they are two different hotels with different pool, breakfast, services etc. So, I am not sure why are you marketing it as same hotel. I felt cheated as online you show the pictures of better property with beach access etc. and not of the different bulding across the road. You should separate them into two different hotels as they are currently instead of selling the standard room as part of the same property.

Dear Atul J., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Samui Chaweng Tana. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. Feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. Hotel has 2 different buildings that offer to guest who has different requirement with different rate. The standard room offer more city convenience with additional benefit of beach access in walking distance and reasonable price. While deluxe room has different style of decoration newer building on the beach. We are always receive great feedback from guest who choose the deluxe room. Unfortunately we did not have a chance to welcome you to the deluxe building this time. but We would love to welcoming you again in our deluxe room and we can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely, Mercure Samui Chaweng Beach Tana

This was our second visit to the beach wing of this Mercure hotel and we love it! The hotel is clean, the staff are amazing, from front desk, security, bar/wait staff and maintenance, all are so welcoming and happy to help. The pool at this hotel is also fantastic and has a swim up bar. We love the location of this Mercure as it’s the quiet end of Chaweng however it doesn’t take long to walk to the action or jump in a taxi or songthaew which pass by every few minutes. The only thing about this hotel which isn’t to our taste is breakfast. If you love fresh baked in house pastries, fruit, bacon, eggs then this breakfast is for you! For us when in Thailand we like to eat local food and although they have one or two local dishes on offer it’s mostly very bland for our taste. I understand why as the number of people we heard in restaurants asking for ‘no spice’ the hotel has to cater for the masses. The kitchen staff would always chop up some chillies for us when asked but it would be good if they had as a regular condiment as you get in local restaurants. We hope to be back to visit next year!
