Great location

Check-in was speedy and glad they were able to accommodate my early check-in. For the Fairmont brand I was imaging more of a 5 star experience and accommodation. Facilities were quite dated, and the toilet paper holder literally fell off the wall. Felt more like a 3.5 star accommodation.

Great Location, but lots of hiccups

The location to the Boston Marathon was excellent. The room was quiet and had plenty of space. The staff in the restaurant were excellent - very friendly and attentive. However, we had a few hiccups during our stay. The rollaway bed was a challenge. I was told at check-in that it was in the room, but it was not. After calling about it, they said it would be sent up "right away". Four hours later, it had still not arrived. I was told that there would be a light breakfast available for runners near the lobby on marathon morning. When I went downstairs, no one knew what I was talking about and I had to quickly find a "Plan B", which is not ideal on marathon morning when there are very specific time constraints. One of the reasons we chose the hotel & room was for the bathtub as I needed it for pre and post marathon soaking. The drain plug in the tub did not seal correctly. So, the water was always leaking and not holding water. The shower was also either in need of maintenance or better cleaning. It was pretty yucky looking. Given the price of the room and the standards that Fairmont usually has, it was disappointing.

The hotel was well located and the staff friendly and helpful. We were a little disappointed with the room itself - the upkeep seemed a little subpar and it seemed a little tired. Didn't really feel like value for money. There was very limited wardrobe space - huge wardrobe but no shelves! The carpet was puckered and damaged and it was nearly impossible to sit on the toilet (was weirdly angled towards the wall!). The shower head was damaged and leaked more water than came through the shower head.

This is a reasonably priced accommodation with a touch of luxury and a caring attitude. The decor is traditional but very aristocratic.

The hotel is very beautiful and has nice amenities. Every staff person with whom I interacted was extremely helpful and friendly. The staff at the breakfast and happy hour lounge were very attentive, considerate, and helpful. (The breakfast and happy hour dining options were excellent, too.) The cleaning staff were also very friendly and did a great job. I was even able to store my luggage after checking out until my flight left in the evening, which I greatly appreciated. It was a really good experience and I would like to return and will definitely recommend to others. The location is also ideal.
