Choose this hotel for it’s proximity to Gare Montparnasse our arrival station. Rooms are well above average size for Paris and very clean albeit ours had a missing cover on the shower installation and a chip out of the sink but a hotel like this with a high daily turnover will suffer more wear and tear than a hotel in the provinces. The public areas have a bit of an identity crises more Ibis than mercure but they were much used by the business clients. Breakfast was the usual full offering covering everything from fresh fruit cereals to cooked items and croissants etc. my only complaint is it was so spread out and not all grouped together in a logical way a complaint I have from a stay at an ibis place Bastille also. Every member of staff was very helpful and friendly. The cleaning staff should be congratulated on their work. Accor are doing something very right with their staff training which makes it a pleasure to interact with who understand the concept of customer care. This hotel could become our regular address in Paris as it met our needs perfectly. There are a lot of bistros and bars in the immediate area for a relaxing local evening after a day seeing the nights and it’s well located for the metro but if like us you like walking many sites are in reach.

Checking in good, room had burns on carpet, toilet leaked constantly , washbasin cracked and chipped. Refused to provide Accor discount for breakfast, then negotiated to 20%, then 30%. Only Accor property we have ever stayed in that did not provide 50% discount on food. Will look elsewhere in future.

The no.1 stand-out quality of the hotel was its staff. No other hotel has come close for their resourcefulness, empathy, kindness and joviality. There are lovely touches here and you feel they are genuine, not just pandering to the zeitgeist. The key-cards and door hangers are wooden not plastic. There is no machine selling bottles of drinks. Instead there is a free water cooler on every floor and reusable bottles available at reception. The room was spotless, spacious and comfortable. I'm a disabled person it was great to be in a specially adapted "accessible" room which didn't feel like an old-people's home or a hospital clinic. The bathroom was safe and easy to manoeuvre around, in fact the whole hotel was. There seems to be a whole floor for disabled guests with an extra wide corridor. When my electric wheelchair broke, they rallied round with help and the hotel handiman Alexi was fantastic in mending it. The location is great for the train station. The road is filled with Asian restaurants and French bistros are only a few hundred meters away. Families with children be aware that one end of the street has several "Adult" venues. I recommend entering from the other direction. IMPORTANT: The other Mercure in Montparnasse has exactly the same name on google earth and on several booking sites. Take care you arrive to the one on rue de la Gaite!

nice hotel but the restaurant is closed on weekends and we cannot eat in which can be difficult when staying in with a baby the staff was also not very friendly when we asked questions
