Everything was perfect, the room, the staff, the breakfast, the view from the rooftop.... All you can expect from a Sofitel can be provided by the Vieux port hôtel. It will be our choice of destination if we come back again to Marseille.

« How far can you be from being a true 5 star when it comes to client experience?!??! »

Hôtel and facilities are nice. Service from the staff is good at the reception counter and breakfast. Service from staff around the pool and in particular from Adrien is simply unacceptable at this level. Claiming a table was booked when it wasn’t, no friendliness in attending the client, not letting me seat down at the table of my choice when the restaurant is empty and it’s already 2pm. I will not renew a stay in your hotel.

We could only stay one night, the initial greeting by the front staff and reception desk was exceptional, we were made to feel quite special. Drinks on the 7th floor and then good value dinner on the terrace with views over the old port. Would have liked to have stayed a lot longer

Stayed here in a nice terrace room for the Bastille day weekend, the room phone did not work and could not be fixed over the weekend, the communications regarding the weekend travel disruption were extremely poor and access to the pool (owned by the Novotel) was blocked necessitating a journey via the basement, the road, and car park to get there.the attitude to these problems was dismissive for a hotel of this price (the concierge said, 'we are not 5 star only 4 star')

As always we enjoyed this place. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant at the last floor is a gift of God with the French cuisine inspired by the ocean and the terrific view. We also appreciated Le Cercle Des Nageurs which is very convenient for enjoying the sea near the hotel.

« Disappointing for a hotel of this calibre »

We were offered an upgrade to a room on checkin with a balcony which we duly paid for. After the first night we discovered the door wouldn’t lock onto the balcony and as there were security stickers on the doors plus we were on level one this worried us. A technician took a few hours to try and fix the door, meanwhile we missed breakfast and lost half a days time. We approached guest relations who showed us two alternative rooms on the same floor- both had the same door problem!!! I asked for us to be moved back to the original room type we had booked and this was accommodated. We were assured that there would be no additional costs and compensation was in order. On checkout the additional supplements were still on our bill and I had to negotiate at 4am with reception to have them removed while our taxi was waiting. The hotel shares pool facilities with a Novotel who don’t enjoy hosting Sofitel guests that was made clear to us. Some of the Sofitel staff were great and we ended up with a lovely room but overall disappointing..

The Sofitel Marseille - Vieux Port was a wonderful hotel. The front desk staff was especially warm and friendly, which I don't always find in other hotels in the area. The rooms were elegant, clean and seemed new, the service quick and I thought the view was incredible. I would stay there again, but not unless someone could confirm with me that the neighboring clubs weren't going to party until midnight, which is what happened during my stay. An outdoor event was being held at a neighboring club during which a live band played from 9:50 to Midnight (technically 11:55) and the sound permeated the non-sound proof windows of my room. I had to be up at 5:30 am. The front desk person handled it professionally and did the best he could. Sofitel as a corporation should do more as a company to lobby Marseille city officials to tamp down on the ancillary noise after a certain hour (as is done in NYC). It's a really great hotel, but it made my not-cheap stay a problem (and others, if tripadvisor, booking.com etc are to be believed).

Securing cab was time consuming and frustrating. Door service was lacking. Some of the associates on the front desk had an attitude. Temperature in room, too hot, not comfortable.

« Substandard room and view with so-so staff support considering the cost »

The air conditioning in the room did not work well. The room was listed as a "Superior" room and had a view of the alley where the trash trucks came at all hours of the day and night - perhaps the term "Superior" means something different in France? The staff were polite but not helpful and not very concerned about making my stay a special one (except possibly as a specially bad one). Maid service insisted on barging into the room even though the "DO NOT DISTURB" sign was clearly hanging on the door. I am given to understand that the president of France was staying there at the same time that I was staying there, but I don't see why that should make any difference in the quality of the stay for any paying guest(s).

Except from staying nearly one hour at the check in desk due to CC problem, I was just hoping to have at least a room while the problem was getting solved, Being a member who reached the Platinum status in the past would be the minimum that we can do for him. Breakfast was average and far from other Sofitels breakfasts I have seen. Not plenty of choices existed Other than that, everything was great, the staff was very nice, the comfort, cleanness and location were just excellent.
