Whilst the location and room was fine, maid service was minimal or non existent. We only had full maid service once and this was only after we complained. Otherwise the room was ok, reception staff were helpful.

« OK but just a few niggles »

Stayed here a number of times but we weren't overly impressed by the recent changes to reception. It didn't look finished and the white tiles reminded us of a public toilet. The room was nice but you need to have a mirror next to a plug socket so that the ladies can do their hair.

As a platinum member and stay in hotels all the time I wasn't best pleased . It was a busy weekend because of the races and the staff couldn't cope . My room wasn't cleaned and there was rubbish in the corridors that never got moved and the reception staff were unknowledable about there job .not a statisfied customer.

Whilst we only stayed the one night it was OK & met our needs. We went to a concert at a local venue as a birthday treat for my wife, the hotel had put a plate with sweet treats on which was a really nice touch and much appreciated. The room was bright, well equipped and welcoming. The toilet was separate from the bathroom but was small and difficult to enter/leave and the area behind the toilet door hadn’t been cleaned in a while.

The room was nice and the bed comfy . The iron was missing its dial so had no idea what temperature it was on . The battery cover was gone from remote control . Wi Fi poor and the water in bathroom sink smelt of rotten eggs . Nice to have tea and coffee but only 2 serves of milk . I just expected more from Novotel especially after staying in a Travel Lodge and Premier Inn in the last week for more than half the price . My experience at these two places was excellent.

Our initial contact when we first arrived was very poor. We were early so were not surprised when we were asked to come back in later. The girl though was fairly disinterested, took our details and said our keys would be waiting when we came back. We had to ask her for a map of the area. She also knew nothing of the Accor plus membership. After asking her and her seeking help we were issued with 2 drink vouchers. When we came back later our keys were not waiting for us. However at least this time the male attendant was efficient. He asked if we had a disability as apparently that was the type of room that had been put aside for us and as it wasn’t ready when we came in initially is why we couldn’t check in straight away. As neither of us has a disability he changed our room immediately and issued us with a welcome pack. The next place we stayed at was the Radisson Blu at Durham. They were excellent and really showed how inadequate our initial contact was. Our room was very nice, clean and comfortable.

Stay was most enjoyable. Eating in the restaurant in the evening was excellent. Only negative was in housekeeping-stayed in executive room but let down by missing slippers (but rectified) not replenishing bottled water coffee pods etc on a daily basis. Bins not emptied for 2 days.

We stayed in the York branch for 3nights at the beginning of September and during our stay we found the cleaning service to be of a poor standard. No cleaner in fact entered the our room at all during this time. Bins were not emptied, beds not changed or made, no fresh cups provided or even cleaned. Tea making facilities were not refreshed and We had to go and look for our own. Clean towels were provided but left outside the door. we also had an issue with our security safe which we reported to reception. We were told this would be rectified although this took until the end of our stay to do so. We had items that we wanted to be kept safe and felt we could not do this. To be honest I find this incredibly poor. You are not a budget hotel and so the service provided should be much higher than what we received. On making these issues known at reception we got an apology. Not good enough Novotel. The price we paid I believe was way above what it should have been. An unhappy customer.
