« Dirty Linens, unclean room - poor service overall »

The linen was dirty both days I stayed there. The second day it wasn’t even changed I reckon and the same sheets were used (which were already dirty). The bed sheet was too small for the bed and half my feet had no sheet because it couldn’t be fitted as it was too small. My card payment was processed incorrectly three times and I was made to call the bank considering the declined payment. The bank explained they were processing the payment incorrectly and even when I explained it to the customer representative of the hotel how to get it sorted it was of no use. I had to make a bank transfer and no one still sent me my business invoice that I requested 5 times from 5 different people. The people at reception seemed in rush while checking me out and no one stopped to understand what my request was around the invoice. I was just asked to leave the details and then over the phone someone explained I would be sent an invoice with details on system so I had to go through the story again as to how the details on system were incorrect and I left correct details with someone at the reception. Painful experience overall.

The room was not ready at 1400hrs as stated in the confirmation email. Offered an upgrade to an Exec room at £15 extra which I declined. Waited in Reception until after 1500hrs with refurbishment drilling noise etc. Rang and complained to customer services. Room ready at 1510hrs and received an apology and free parking and 2 complimentary drinks. I informed Reception that they should have offered a free upgrade at 1400hrs which was acheaper option and would have saved me and my wife waiting for over an hour.

Works ongoing in reception, just a laptop that kept failing at reception, food came out cold, room cleaned on second day but no toilet rolls or milk left in room, also towels not replaced just picked up off the floor. Staff did the best there could under the circumstances

Overall very good. Restaurant, bar and reception staff very good. But very disappointed with the room servicing. We had left our towels on the floor for changing. We found that they had been put back on the rail damp and dirty, this we know as I had used the iron and on checking it it had left dirty marks on the towel. We would usually reuse towel but they were thin and worn, not really fit for purpose. Also toiletries were not replaced and the tissue box contained only one tissues. We did report these things on checking out. Also we paid for our parking but was told that there is no monortoring of vehicles for payment.

I asked in booking for two adjoining room, which is what I got.However I asked for a shower as one of us was older, but we ended up with a bath. One of us had forgotten to bring a toothbrush, and we were kindly given a complimentary one .It was an enjoyable stay.

Prior to arrival Addison was extremely helpful with my booking arrangements. On arrival at reception at 12.30 I was surprised to be told I could not check in until 3pm and that perhaps I would like to go into York and come back a bit later; I have always been able to check in that early but obviously do not expect the room to be ready.One of the square pillows had a nasty stain so I swopped it for a clean one from the wardrobe; on the morning of check-out I noticed a blood splash on the bathroom wall underneath the toilet roll; this is pretty unacceptable. I have a photo of this if you would like to see it. The staff, as always, were polite and helpful but the hotel could do with more of them. A gentleman waited at reception for over 10 minutes when the night reception had gone upstairs with an issue and at breakfast the two poor girls were unable to keep up with demand resulting in no knives, clean mugs or white bread available.They were working non stop but it really needs more staff on duty. I still feel the hotel is value for money but really wish the general cleanliness was addressed; checking the actual pillow for stains, not just the covers and ensuring all stains removed from the bathroom.

Poor room make up Bed not made.. tea/coffee/milk/cups not replaced Perfectly good toiletries taken away and replaced. No complimentary water Shower blocked. Tray overflow Breakfast disappointing. Many items not full. Cold. Generally disorganised on first morning More efficient staff on the Monday. Expected a much higher standard from this hotel. Issues reported. And a lot of sorrys! Nothing else offered. Had to make our bed. Fetch my own tea and milk etc. No ideal.

« Ok stay, music from a function or bar the first night kept us up all night »

First night ok, got stuck in s lift and staff were less than helpful, their comment was “thanks for your feedback”. Music from a function or bar coupled with a screaming child running up and down the hallway all night. Kept us up all night. Second night was better. Pancake machine broke on during breakfast so we were disappointed however staff at checkout were brilliant.

Arrived to a lot of building work going on in reception. Girl seemed a little stressed as computers were running slow also! Was booked in and went straight to our room dropped our bag & straight back out before the shops closed. On return went to make a coffee no expresso machine (we had booked an executive room) went back to reception same girl could not apoligise enough changed our room however to 3 further attempts to get the electronic key to work! Diningroom big and spacious served quickly bit sat an hr did not come back to clear our plates or with dessert menue. We ended up leaving the resturanta. Breakfast was noisey due again to the work in reception. A pot of tea was made for me on asking as only tea/coffee machinen, I prefer a pot. Quick breakfast & left for home.

Building works. No reception. Wires from walls in restaurant. No changing in pool or toilets or shower. Cost £275 for one twin room. Not worth the money. Won’t be returning later this year to be with you. Most sad. First bad stay at a Novotel.

Booked a room for three people, but the room wasn't set up for three. I had to request extra towels and drinks, and to top it all off had to make up my own quilt because no cover was provided. I was also charged for early check in when I didn't.

Work in the lobby didn't bother me but the experience felt a little understaffed (wasn't the warmest of welcomes). Nice to have the pool and it was what I expected but it felt a little unclean (cloudy lots of chlorine). Room was spotless and a good size and beds were comfortable. Happy with the breakfast- good sausages and choice, but bad coffee. Happy with the stay and the location overall but for £200 per night it was overpriced for the level of service.
