I stayed at Brimingham centre last night as a platinum member who stays 30-40 nights a year in Novotel / Sofitel, and I have to say, this is the worst stay I have ever had in a hotel that is classed as four star. On arrival I was informed that the sauna and steam room were not working and that they will probably be removed from the website , the main seating area in the bar was closed off due to wet paint. On arrival in room 621, I was appalled by the level of cleanliness within the room. The toilet was appalling with stains all over the room, run marks down the walls , and what could only be articles from people’s noses on the walls. Disgusting ! The rest of the room didn’t fair much better , similar stains on the walls , a very large red stain on the carpet , the curtains were covered in dirt . This was a stay using 4000 reward points , definitely did not feel like a reward ! On speaking with the desk attendant Arif, he said he would sort the marks and went upstairs with a cleaning bottle and tea towels ?? This has no affect. In Fairness to Arif he did show us two other rooms to move into, the first no better with marks all over the walls , coffee marks running all down the door and the skirting hadn’t been cleaned in months, apologies again and ended up in 622. This was marginally better and acceptable just for one night. It was then we were told the WiFi was also not working or one lift! When travelling with two children WiFi’s now a essential element and part of choosing a hotel. Arif whispered would I like some complimentary points, not sure why whispering, probably because he didn’t want the endless stream of people complaining to hear!! I said I would prefer a clean room. I stayed in a city centre Travelodge last week which was hands down cleaner and not an issue. There is no way in this condition and with lack of facilities this hotel is four star, as a platinum customer of many stays I expected much much better from Novotel, this is very poor, I feel I have wasted 4000 points on a grubby hotel. I feel completely let down with the service although Arif was trying his best the facility let him down. Another guest informed the spa and steam room has been closed for weeks. I shall forward this complaint to AccorHotels central customer service also, as it’s well below what they would expect for their hotels and reputation

Room was fine but as many people have remarked, strange layout of toilet and bathroom. Shower and bath right next to the bed, toilet completely separate next to room door. Check-in and check-out were efficient, however crediting of Accor points and nights very slow. One week has passed and still they have not appeared in my account.

I found the staff rude.. we arrived a little early as we traveled some distance, to be told our room would be ready in 15-20 minutes... after 25 minutes I asked again,lady told me would be 45 ish minutes.. so we decided to leave luggage and go out (we would have don’t this sooner if we was told in the beginning 1-1 1/2 hours) because We wanted to go back out in the car it cost us £4,50 to get out of car park because of the wait in the hotel... when we got back to hotel 7pm tired and wanting a shower , a cup of t and relax we found the children’s bed HADNT even been made up.. so I called receptionist who was rude and not at all apologetic she told me someone would be up to make it shortly ... so we waited ... Bearing in mind we was told @ 2 ish the reason we couldn’t get into our room is because they was preparing it ... also, the fridge wasn’t working ... there was only 2 t bags and 2 cups in a room that held 4 people. Ridiculous . There was only 1 towel... again ridiculous , as the room has 4 people in it ... So I went down to reception to ask for more towels,t bags, cups and sugar, and found the receptionist very very rude. She basically told me that they was making the bed up so what’s the problem . We frequently stay in the hotels and I must say I expected more from a Novotel .. our 2 children even said can’t we just leave and go to the premier inn , we stayed in a Novotel in Brussels before Christmas and it was lovely. Lovely staff. Lovely room. I can not say the same for this one. Rude. Rude. Rude. 0% customers service. Very disappointed. Yes everything was corrected. But the staff where rude and unapologetic, and basically said “it’s being rectified, so what’s the problem”!

On entrance to the hotel I was first met with a smashed entrance dooor hat was being held together with what looed like parcel tape. Not a great start (first impressions and all that) however this was soon forgotten fllowing the warm greating from the reception staff. Great check in experience and everything was clearly explaied by the memeber of staff. However this soon diminished when I headed to my room. The corridor areasand public staircase need an overhaul and are extremely outdated. This was echoed when I entered my room. The room look nothing like they do on the internet and are certainly in need of a makeover. Out dated artex, worn carpets, outdated furniture and tired looking bathrooms. The room set up was really wierd with the lavatory being in a seperate room to the sink and shower. Sorry Novotel Birmingham, Broad Street I wont be staying again unless you have a complete refit.

Reception and dining room staff attentive and efficient. Housekeeping a bit lacking - two night stay, soap removed after first night and not replaced. One bath towel and hand towel removed after first night and not replaced leaving one of each towels for two of us. Usually expect dressing gowns and slippers in an executive room plus a bottle of water at least on the first night - none provided. Unlikely to stay again.

All staff very helpful, good level of comfort. We really appreciated being allowed to have a family room even though our 2 sons are adults. They have special needs so we need to stay together. Sofa having to separate mattresses was fantastic. Thanks so much.

Booking ref HNRLFHWC I am very disappointed that the steam room and sauna in this hotel aren't working.  We chose to stay at this hotel because of the facilities listed on your website at the time of booking. The most annoying aspect for me and the children is that when we arrived at the reception to fill the health questionnaires, we were told that the sauna was out of order but that the steam room was ok. We were given the access number and went and changed, but were then surprised to discover that the steam room wasn't working either.  I find it unbelievable that the hotel didn't know that the steam wasn't working until we got out of the cold steam room.

It was similar to Bates Motel. The hotel needs a full overhaul. The carpets on the stairway were filthy and also the carpets in the corridor. Some drilling work was obviously done on the stairs and wasn't swept or vacuumed. The sauna/steam was out of order. The only good thing was the bed and the food. The bed was very comfortable and breakfast was nice. Although the staff on the reception desk were friendly they did not inform us that we had to use our room key to access the lift and because of this, we had to walk up and down 6 flights of stairs on Friday and Saturday.

Was told steam room working, went through the process of filling H&S form, went in the changing room to change only to go back to the reception to complain that the steam is not working. Was told the maintenance will look at it and someone will call me , didnt get abt feedback until I called reception to be told dteam room gas not been working.

We were given a room on the 4th floor which was a standard double room. We had paid for an Executive room and were told all the 4th floor rooms were now designated as Executive rooms which they are clearly not in terms of configuration, bed and amenities. We were moved on request to a floor 3 Executive room but had to ask several times. I was also asked to pay again when my barclaycard statement showed I had paid in advance. The hotel was very noisy at night . On the plus side the staff were lovely and breakfast was good.
