« Friendly service, but the hotel is not worth the 4stars in all its amenities »

I choose to stay in this hotel for my rather long stay of 20 days, because I thought it would provide the best comfort I can get in the Hague and that it had an restaurant. When I arrived an the whole lobby was in construction, I was rather unpleasantly surprised. Soon I realized that the restaurant is closed because of the construction and the room service is limited (5-8pm, really?). The room was also rather disapprointing, very old and worn everything, the bathroom rather unpractical and old, the layout of the room is not very practcial - i.e. you have to go around the bed to get into the bathroom, the chairs is alsways blocking the view on the TV, no sink in the toilet. Last but not least, it was quite hot in the Netherlands while I was staying at the hotel, when asking about the AC, I was informed that there is non. Also the cleaning service was rather bad (hair was left in the room, old dirty pillow cased forgotten). Breakfast was very average as well. All in all, the staff was very friendly, but the hotel really needs a make over. In this condition I would not choose it for my next stay.

« Hotel is tired, AC very poor »

Staff were friendly and welcoming, the location within the mall should be fantastic. However, the whole hotel is tired and in need of significant investment, a full refurbishment with all fixtures and fittings replaced and remodelling undertaken. The building doesn't feel like it has received significant investment for years, other than a touch of paint. The woodwork around the firedoors feels like it is from the 60s, the room felt like it hadn't been upgraded since 2000. The AC didn't work, blowing what appeared to be uncooled air, as a result I had to have the windows open - with an external AC unit outside my room I got about 4 hours sleep each night. The room had staining on the walls and didn't feel clean or well looked after. I travel to The Hague a couple of times a month for business and only stayed at the Novotel because I had to book at the last minute and my usual hotel was full. I won't be staying at the Novotel again.

Good Location. Near to trams stops and shopping center. Thanks to the lady who quickly resolved the electricity trip issue. The room was however small for family of 4. Using the sofa bed, there was a limited space to move around. Also a wardrobe in the room, a mat in the bathroom, a satellite connection/smart tv would have been helpful.

« Excellent location but let down by poor facilities »

The advertised air-conditioning did not work and was instead just an air blower - the room was unpleasantly hot and stuffy, notwithstanding the provision of a pedestal fan. The lobby was a building site, and we had not been warned of this. Overall, Novotel not as one has come to expect.

I usually stay at Novotel when I travel for work and leisure, and I am usually very satisfied. Not this time. This was far below standard. I should say before I begin that staff were friendly all through, so there was no issue with that. But: AC not working during the heat wave. And though I could see from earlier reviews on Tripadvisor that this was not a new problem, staff did try to tell us first a) that we didn't do the correct settings on the AC and b) that they will look into the problem to fix it or c) that it will only work when it is above 16 degrees (it was 33...). Only cleaning staff was honest enough to admit it doesn't work and brought us a fan. That one was no good fix though as it had to be re-started every 2 hours, which doesn't really help at night! Breakfast: Very often plates at the buffet were empty (though the breakfast buffet would be nice otherwise). And just some small things. There absolutely needs to be a trash can in the toilet, as any woman will agree... sanitary bags not refilled unless told at the reception. Sink blocker didn't work either. More generally: There was a big construction site at the hotel as the reception was rebuilt. I completely understand that this has to be done, but I don't think the hotel should charge regular prices during that time!

This hotel is in a great location with plenty of shops, restaurants and places of interest within walking distance. 20 mins walk from the main rail station too. All would have been great had we been warned that the lobby was a building site and that actually the advertised air conditioning in the rooms is no more than an air circulation system. Daytime low 20's centigrade and the room was really hot and stuffy. Overall it seems that the lobby is not the only part of the hotel in need of refurbishment. Novotel can do much better than this.

The air conditioning did not cool the room enough despite being set at the lowest temperature possible. The TV did not work well The control gave problem changing station even after having the reception replace the batteries. There was no disposal basket in the toilets (where do women throw the bags with the tampons?) I question the wisdom of not providing a brush in the toilet. I have a full understanding for the works being done in the lobby and did not consider them in my assessment

« Feel below normal good standards »

1. Reception was a building site, nearly collided with workmen crossing the reception with materials. 2. No hot water on day 1 3. Room was very hot, even though this was not the height of summer. Open window helped. 4. Breakfast bar not greatly set up - appreciate it was temporary. I normally stay in the Novotel as it is generally good standard and well placed with reasonable rooms. In this instance it fell below. I will have to consider other options in the Hague next time.
