I have stayed in ibis a lot of times and this is the first time I was disappointed. The room was dirty could see bits on the carpet, the shower would get hot and cold. Tumbler in the room must have been used as had toothpaste tarste. The staff were great though and very helpful.

« Excellent location and efficient staff »

The hotel was very conveniently located in Birmingham city centre, just a few minutes away from the New Street train station and less than 15 minutes from the historic centre. Check-in and check-out were a breeze and took less than a minute. Staff were welcoming and efficient. The only issue I experienced was that other guests at this location were noisy during unsociable hours.

Everything about the stay was great, the staff, the room, the service,. We got some free water and chocolatebars and a handwritten welcome card, which was very welcoming of course: A+ ! .. except the 2 room moves we had to make during the first 4 days. An hour or so after we checked in on our first day, we noticed the temperature of the shower was on and off and was constantly changing from lukewarm to very warm which made it very annoying to shower. After we mentioned this at the reception, the technician (who was very friendly I will mention) came and after trying to fix it, proposed a room move in order to fix the problem. The lady at the reception was very nice to bring the new keys to our room and a free drink voucher. Seeing as we already had a shower in our old room, we didn’t check the shower until the next day. The same problem with the water appeared. We didn’t mention it to the reception until Monday because we figured there wouldn’t be a technician in the hotel during the weekend, and the problem with the water was not unbearable. I work at a Novotel myself and know how annoying clients can be so I figured I wouldn’t make the water thing much of a problem. My friend told the reception about this anyway on Monday afternoon before we were going out, in hope they would have fixed it after when we would have come back. She came back to the room with new keys. So we would have to change rooms again. I really didn’t want to. When we got back in the evening, I told the reception we would stay in the same room and I didn’t want to change because it is a real bother to pack everything again for the second time. The lady at the reception on Monday night told us we HAD to change rooms, so basically that we had no choice but to change again (to #135) because apparantly they were going to fix the problem the next morning. I don’t really understand why the problem could not be fixed the same day, and that in the end we were given 2 rooms (#116 + #131) in total where the problem with the water appeared. You propose a room move twice, yet we were given TWO rooms with the water problem (including the room where we were originally checked in on the 1st day)? So I am wondering if we were this unfortunate or if the water problem was in other rooms than ours as well... in total we stayed in 116, 131 and 135.

I already submitted a complaint prior to my stay regarding payment and I don’t believe I received a satisfactory answer to this. Otherwise my room was ok but I got a lot street noise during the night as well as noise from the corridor and rooms next door and above. The shower was awful, constantly fluctuating between hot and cold. The hairdryer was clearly damaged but obviously hadn’t been checked, however when I mentioned this to a member of staff it was replaced with a brand new one, though if it had been checked I wouldn’t have found a very faulty hairdryer and I wouldn’t have had to start my day with wet hair. I didn’t book breakfast as during check in I was told there would probably be a long wait as it’s really busy just now and there had been queues that morning. Overall I felt disappointed and feeling like I wouldn’t be staying in that hotel again.

Check in was easy with friendly and helpful staff. My room was clean,and my bed was very comfortable. I chose to go out for dinner,though I do like that I had the option of dining in the hotel’s restaurant (Foggs). The next morning I enjoyed a delicious breakfast buffet. Easy and quick check out. I would definitely stay here again!

Stayed with three young people with special needs going to a conference. The staff were all lovely and so helpful and friendly to the young people. The rooms were comfortable. Breakfast was great with lots of choice. Rooms were quiet at night despite city centre location. Only criticism is that some of us felt a bit too warm as the air con didn't seem very adjustable but this didn't affect our enjoyment of our stay. Would definitely stay again.
