Very good location in Shanghai. Downtown. Close to Hanpu river and shopping streets. 3 remarks: Coffee at breakfast in the lounge (30th floor) is really discasting. Quality of bed has the age of the bed...... Sofitel should review its contract for Air France crew members: They are unpolite and very noisy everywhere they stay ( lobby, Platinum lounge)

Great first impression from the highly efficient and friendly Front office staff Angie. English is no problem here from the staff. Room is nice, we got nice city view from the bathroom windows as well. Housekeeping did a perfect job and also the concierge. Breakfast is nice and for me, the varieties is just right. However, stewarding need to improve as Cutlet is not so clean, cup has lipsticks mark...etc . Had a drink at the 505 bar in the evening but experience and service not pleasant. Whole time the two male bartenders keep chatting at the counter. But I will definitely come back because of the service staff and the room, just to avoid the bar.

We checked out on 1 Oct, when a typhoon was approaching Shanghai and the weather was very bad. We are a party of 5 people, and we cannot find any taxi to airport. The concierge had arranged a 7 seater GL8 to send us to airport. Thanks for his assistance, otherwise we might miss the flight.

The plus’s were - great location within walking distance from the Bund, shopping, everything. We were very happy with our room on the 8th floor with a great view towards the river. Not so good was the welcome on arrival. Staff serious & maybe due to us not speaking Chinese. The restaurant staff also lacked experience & didn’t top up food at breakfast. We had to prompt action often. When breakfast closes at 11 or 1130 am we expected that - not clearing everything away prior to that. Seems so rude when we’re still eating breakfast.

I put 4 as I had a roof over my head but my stay wasn’t what I was expected. The service was under the level of what a Sofitel can give all over the world. Nobody spoke proper English and my requests wasn’t respected. It can be a detail, but, the Lanvin collection was incompleted. So of course, when I’m packing my luggage to go to a Sofitel I know that I don’t need lotion shower gel or soap cause they automatically give it. But the lotion cream wasn’t available and when I properly asked for it, the service came with a new soap, new conditionner and a new shower gel. I ordered at the room service a dish which was so smelly that I couldn’t even touch it. That’s such a shame for a Sofitel to give that kind of service. Felt that the employees spit on the name of Accor.

The hotel has an luxurious old world (70s feel) charm, right from the elevator area with the striped carpet, mirrors and furniture to the rooms that use a lot of wood and strategic yellow lights & lamps. We are presently at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore paying twice as much, but we miss the excellent breakfasts we had at Sofitel Hyland, Shanghai. A memorable stay!
