I have traveled the world and stayed in a lot of Mercure hotels around the world and to stay that I was disappointed would be an understatement. The concierge and the housekeeping staff were the only friendly staff. The check-in staff, restaurant staff, patisserie staff and the Mercure Cafe were all very rude - I am sure noone told them how to look after your customers/clients. When I checked in I was told I had to pay everything for cash and no card - to my surprise on my departure, I had to pay 220 EGP when I had already paid for whatever I had been charged for - just feels like dishonesty to me. When I made my booking the Accor website said a 10% deposit had been taken to my surprise I was still charged the full amount. I have been travelling and I have not had a chance to look at my accounts. I bought a Sakkara Gold beer from the patisserie and I tried to sit outside on the lawn near the pool and I was chased away by the poolside barman as he told me this was not something that he served - really was the pool in a different hotel or a different entity - I was left speechless. When I walked into my room on Friday 21st June, there was a drink straw on the floor by the entrance of my room and when I left on 1st July, the straw was still there - it could be that the vacuum cleaners have no suction - it would be reasonable to conclude no vacuuming was done. As a result there were a number of days were I just left the "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door as I clearly did not see any difference after the cleaning. The days that I stayed in and wanted to have the buffet in the restaurant, the youngman twice said this to me "It is very expensive here go to the patisserie or the Mercure Cafe" - you can interpret this in two ways - either he thought I could not afford it or he was not interested in serving me or have me in the restaurant - I was left speechless. On Thursday, 27th June after being told in the restaurant that it was too expensive, I went to the Mercure Cafe - I told the gentleman serving me that I also wanted to watch football and he pulled a small table and chair behind a big group of locals who were clearly not interested in watching the football and they kept getting up blocking my view. I complained several times to the waiter but nothing was done. It was when I wanted to leave the waiter asked some locals who were smoking shesha at the other TV - It was just a bad experience. I went to the disco on Thursday, 27th June - the place was empty but the guy in charge said I have to sit by the bar away from the dance floor but the place was empty. I asked the guy why and he said he had bookings from the locals and he had reserved all the seats and tables on and around the dance for them. I was shocked - I walked out expressing my displeasure. In this day and age, there was no wifi in my room. I asked and I was kindly told that when I wanted wifi I had to come to the lobby. As the African nations competition was going on there were a lot of people in the lobby all coming for the wifi - it was so crowded and very noisy. The people in the lobby had every right to be there and they were free to make as much noise as they liked - I had no issue with them. The issue was that the hotel did not provide wifi in the rooms and inconvenienced a lot of people. One of my countrymen, checked out and moved to the Kampski as he could not handle the ineptitude, unfriendliness and the lack of wifi in his room. I stuck it out as I wanted something out of the city as I live in a big city. It was a big mistake. I should have just have left at the same time - my holiday was spoilt. I can safely say this is the worst four star hotel I have ever stayed at. If it had said it was a one star or no star then I would have been okay with it - the expectation that was set when I booked was not met. I would certainly not recommend it to anyone looking for a four star hotel.

Nice setting, privilege rooms worth extra, food average. Younger male staff pester single females. It's bad. I would not recommend for single girls, I seen first hand how they get abused.

The hotel cancelled my reservation to try and charge more for our rooms. Coming from Australia I expect the standards to be much higher of a mercure hotel but this place was dirty, the food was disgusting and the service was slow. The pool area is nowhere near as nice as the website makes it out to be as with the rest of the hotel which is very outdated. Advertised as a 5 star hotel, should only be 3 stars. I feel like I've been ripped off. The staff just constantly tried to get more money out of you.

« Very bad service and facilities, different with what you booked »

We booked a privilege room with pyramid view. However we we get the room, it is a standard room. We asked to change the room but they said no other alternative room and push us to get it. After a few complaints they give us another room without pyramid view. I need to come down again, to complain again and finally to get a “partial view” room. When I get in, the mini bar is empty and no slipper. But this is what we have booked! It stated very clear the price is with free soft drink in mini bar and slipper. When we go down to complain again, they said they can only refill tomorrow. And for tomorrow, they only refill “1 person” which is 1 slipper. Also the room is very old and the electricity plug are failed. I paid for a premium room and service but looks like I am “bargaining” for this. What was it happened?

Your service and cleaning staff were all amazing. The rooms were out dated compared to other hotels I have stayed at by your chain. The aircon was like a jet was in our room so we couldn’t put that on at night, the taps were old and leaked and our double bed was a twin(it was our honeymoon and was booked as a double). The taxi service that resides in your hotel and apparently rents that space is by far the worst service I have ever used. Besides paying already overinflated prices thinking well it’s part of the hotel so it will be safer and more reliable right? Oh no i was wrong. The driver did not drive us to the entrance of the pyramids and instead drove us to a small shop where we were asked how we wanted to get to the pyramids- camel or horse ( I had heard of this scam ) we demanded to be taken to the ticket office by the driver who was clearly not happy about it. He then tried to get money for parking out of us which we already told them where we were going when the price was agreed so we refused stating this. He then stole the money as the person handing tickets to us gave us our change. At the end of this crap experience the guy asked for a tip. We spoke with reception who were very helpful and the taxi service located in your hotel and while they “ rent “ a space in your hotel this is what your customers are being referred to. Maybe it was just our experience but I am sure this happens regularly to your customers. Probably something that needs to be looked into if you wish customers to have a safe and enjoyable experience. Definitely changed my opinion if your hotel chain that’s for sure

The hotel has a great view and the food was good. Two things that I didnt like was monotony of the menu during breakfast and also too much smoking in all areas. Think you should have designated smoking areas considering its a family hotel thus exposing children and other non smokers to second hand smoke which is also unhealthy. The carpets in the rooms were also dirty thus a thorough clean would be welcome every so often as they looked stained too.

For a hotel that carries the name Mercure, the expectation of its quality, regardless of where it is in the world, is the same. A Mercure in London or Sydney, should be the same as that in Cairo. It wasn’t. The hotel is old and run down, the rooms were noisy, the air conditioning temperature was stuck on full cold, the shower drain was blocked and the wifi in the room barely worked (we reset the router 12 times during a 1 night stay).

Best hotel by far for the Pyramids area. I've often stayed here. Standards had been slipping and sadly none of the physical infrastructure changes in recent years have been improvements at all. However present management and staff are doing their best and it was lovely to see the hotel busy again. Pool and porterage service by experienced staff is excellent.

Overall quite pleasant. Rooms are a good size and some open to verandas. Unfortunately some small frustrations like no power to television or electric jug in our room and request to borrow iron was ignored 3 times - despite seeming to understand and assuring us housekeeping would bring it - so I gave up asking. Staff were mainly welcoming although one girl on the front desk was defensive before you spoke to her and so came over as not very helpful. Good breakfast.

We had to change room three times. Food was below standard - served raw chicken and meat that was like leather! Most of the staff didn’t seem to care. As we discovered it was just us having issues there were are number of other guests having issues as well.

Hotel is very much in need of updating with stained carpets and old fittings. Concerns regarding a television that didn't work and a safe that was locked were not addressed. Breakfast was crowded with coffee machines not working some mornings.

Nice enough hotel, doors were broken in the room and there was a Nespresso machine but no pods to use it so seems pointless. I arrived quite late and only used the room for about 7 hours, I asked if I could sit by the pool after check-out and was told no as I'd 'checked out', felt this was a bit harsh as the hotel was quiet and I'd not used any facilities the day before. I was also unhappy that I was charged the room price at the hotel when my invoice specifically said to be charged at time of booking meaning exchange rates had fluctuated. Security staff were really lovely and helpful though, best part of the stay. I am a travel agent, so was booked through our agent portal.
