« Could be so much better »

The location was good with free parking next door. The corridors to bedrooms were very dark. No lights on until you walk into the corridor. Made it feel very unwelcoming and spooky. Our room was small and poorly painted. Bed was comfortable but there was very limited space to put things on. Both the indoor and outdoor pools were on the small side but good. Our main issue was with the restaurant. It is a huge beautiful room but there was absolutely no atmosphere. We were shown to our table and given menus with not a word from the staff. Staff hardly said anything the whole time. It was so weird and lacking in atmosphere that everyone eating spoke in whispers or not at all! Food choice was very limited but the food was of reasonable standard. Breakfast was not much better. We were told the restaurant was closed the following evening but we would not have eaten there again as we like to eat in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere which certainly was not on offer here. Hotel staff were generally ok but did the minimum and offered no conversation or a smile. So a mixture of feelings for us. With a few tweaks and staff training it could be so much better. Just some flowers around the outside pool/ seating area would give the impression that somebody cared about the place.

Check in was ok Could not eat in the restaurant we were told it was fully booked for the evening this I feel is unacceptable We asked where we could eat and were directed to a restaurant in the village which was of very low standard food/cooking and service We had a drink in the hotel bar just after 21:00 then the staff closed it without telling us just switched the lights off and walked away that is rude Breakfast was poor the staff ignored the food was running out didn’t replenish it coffee awful

While checking in at 13.00, was told by the receptionist that unfortunately the restaurant was completely closed for the evening, but that there were restaurants in the town where we could eat. We were very disappointed to hear this. Later we searched for somewhere for our evening meal and only found one place open. The owner was a lovely man who served a very basic but homemade menu, at a very reasonable price. We returned to the hotel bar to obtain our complementary drinks. We were staggered to see that the Restaurant was fully open with guests being served. At first we thought it was only for a tour group, however while we sat in the bar numerous guests entered the room gave thier room number to the waiter and then sat down. They had nothing to do with the larger group. It was clear that thier we're spare tables during the hour we sat and watched. What a disgrace to lie to guests about the restaurant being CLOSED when it clearly was not. We picked you're hotel for it facillities including the restaurant. We have travelled the world staying in the whole range of Accord hotels, and have never been lied to.

« A comfortable hotel with an excellent restaurant, situated in a nice village »

We chose the hotel for an overnight on the way to the South of France because it seemed to be a traditional hotel in a quiet village and with picturesque surroundings, just a little way off the main highway. Unfortunately the small car park was full because of a function in the hotel, but we were able to use a nearly public car park. We were disappointed at check-in to be told that the restaurant was also fully booked but, as soon as we reached our room we had a call from reception to say that they had found us a table. The menu was excellent, with regional specialities of the Auverne and local wine. The room was comfortable, but with rather plain furnishings, and the bathroom was good. In the morning we were able to have breakfast on the terrace. Hotel staff were very friendly and efficient, and it did not feel like a chain hotel. It was a thoroughly good experience for our first night in France and we were very satisfied.

« Hotel with character and great SPA »

Wonderful staff. Lot of character. Advantage of Accor while preserving charm and character. Restaurant is great. Special menu. The spa is fantastic. So are the swimming pools & sauna. Only minus point: the bathrooms. Not up to the standard of Mercure.

Good location in St Nectaire. Rooms are nice and clean. Reception staff was really nice and helpful. Breakfast staff needs to learn to clear tables as guests leave. Every day, many tables had dirty dishes on them. Staff was going by tables and not clearing. Swimming pool needs a few more lounge chairs.

Nice hall, living room and dining room. Standard room very small and with no fridge neither lock. Nice but small pool with very few deck chairs. Nice terrace for meals but service overworked. Our phone reservation was not taken into account when we arrive for diner.

« Poorly executed »

Won't be back, extremely unsatisfied. The reception staff were great but the restaurant experience was beyond terrible. If a group is booked in don't bother, go somewhere else if anywhere is open, all attention will be on them and if you don't say the meal was great the attitude is unbelievable. You WILL wait for everything, from ordering to bill! I'm very disappointed as the area has beautiful surroundings and always stay in AccorHotels but this one was not what I expected. No aircondioning or fans available and if you want to open the window you will have the group noisy all night. Dropped the ball on this one!

We booked a superior room with twin beds; however the room did not appear superior in any way. On checking with reception, we were told that this was the only room with twin beds, and if we wanted to change to a room on the park side, it would have to be to a room with a double bed. The next morning the receptionist told us that all superior rooms were on the park side and only had double beds; so how were we able to book (and pay for) a ‘superior’ room with twin beds? Rooms are described on the website as bright, but our room was dark and unwelcoming. Also no toiletries apart from a small piece of soap. Although the bathroom was surface clean, the shower screen and taps were caked with lime scale, the seal on the shower screen was mouldy and the hose on the shower head was breaking. You could only use the pool if you paid €6 extra per person for towels. Disappointing when we only wanted a quick swim. The public rooms are very nice and breakfast was excellent, but If this had been the first Mercure we had stayed in, it would have put us off booking another.
