Sorry to say I expected more from the Accor\Ibis brand. Coventry south hotel, very tired. Bathroom need attention. Bed was ok. Restaurant for breakfast was very hit and miss. Had to ask staff twice to replace basics like bread, bacon and scrambled egg. I had expected more. I would not recommend or revisit. Sorry.

« Totally unexpected. »

I was completely shocked to arrive and find a glorified 1950's motel. I thought I was at a Campanile it was so bad! Heating in rooms does not work, carpetting is filthy, mattress was awful and only a thin light duvet on the bed. Soap in the shower dispenser had been watered down. Really not what I expect when I stay at an IBIS.

Having stayed a lot in your IBIS Barnsley location I expected to see and experience that same level of quality from the IBIS brand how ever the Coventry South location was no more than substandard student type digs, akin to a 1950’s holiday chalet. I was so disappointed and would NOT recommend it to anyone. Come on IBIS you can do so much better

« Comfortable bed but room smelt very damp »

Check in was very simple. Key card was not clear how to use. I assumed the arrow meant point down into the door thing, had to go back to reception to have it explained that the arrow meant 'up'. Opened my room to an overwhelming smell of damp. Room appeared clean but smell of damp very bad. Bed was very comfortable and I slept very well but not impressed with the smell in the room.

« Not quite what I expected! »

I have stayed at a lot of IBIS hotels and generally they are modern clean facilities and I have a comfortable stay. But this was Coventry, so I should have realised my worst vision would be realised. First let me say the restaurant, food was fantastic. The reception area was beautiful and staff lovely. But the bedroom building, which is a separate building, was a glorified 1950's motel. I thought I was transported to a Campanile and was trapped in a nightmare! Carpet is old, dirty and worn, heating barely works, at least the beds were clean. Shower had good water pressure and excellent control of water temperature. Please knock this building down and build a new one, this does you no service Accor Hotels!

« Dirty and dingy »

Check in was chaotic - the receptionist was new and so was struggling with the systems. she was attempting to deal with 2 checkins at once which simply added to the mele. Not her fault, bt training needs to be better clearly! Some of our party were asked if the had animals, and some not so some paid and others got it for free! The first problem is the keycards and the door locks; no one tells you that the key has to be inserted the "wrong way up". Naturally, you insert the key with the arrow poiting downwards...except that doesn't work! I walked over the the reception to be told I was doing it wrongly! The doors do open eventually, but only after several attempts. One travelling companion's door failed to open and the lock had to be dismantled... The rooms are dirty and dingy; the carpet in my room (38) was absolutely filthy. I did have a cat with me and so I had my usual cleaning kit with me. When I swept the carpet to pickup some stray litter my dustpan was full of grit and dirt - and you can see the stains. It is a problem having carpets when you access the rooms from the outside because you just tread all the dirt in. A mat at the door or just removing carpets and relaying laminate would be better and easier to clean. That said, the bathroom floor had clearly not had a liaison with a mop in a very long time either... The curtains and dirty and stained and barely fit the windows. The hospitality tray had cups and no saucers - for goodness sake, supply mugs! I was somewhat perturbed to find that upon my return on Friday evening, although the front of the room block is emblazoned with light, the walkway to the back and the back itself has no lighting at all...not only is the dangerous as there are trip hazards, it is also rather frightening to have to walk in the dark to your room, especially when you are a lone female. On the up side - the towels and large and nice and the bed is OK. This is simply not up to standard and does your brand no favours at all - needs a rescue very soon. I for one (and all the people I was with this weekend) will certainly NEVER stay there again.

Staff were lovely and breakfast was good. The room was tired and dusty. My wife only agreed to stay on condition the mattress and linen were clean, which they were.

« Poor quality- in all areas »

Check in was slow, despite the hotel being quiet, and the key card was not activated correctly, prompting a re-visit to the reservation desk. On entering the room, it was of the poor state of decor. The bed was very uncomfy, and sheets were worn out. Breakfast was poor- the food was lukewarm, the eggs tasted powdered, and there were certainly not 'over a trillion' different possibilities (or whatever number was boasted)- it appears that breakfast is not very often taken up at the hotel, and therefore it is not stocked well. I won't be staying at this property again, despite visiting Coventry frequently for work.

1. Most satnavs can’t find it 2. It’s grubby & uninviting 3. Poor quality food in restaurant 4. Bar badly stocked 5. Only 2 staff on on a busy Fri & Sat night - one in kitchen, one in bar. By the time the last person on our table got their meal everyone else had finished theirs.

« Good Value if it wan't for the smell! »

Stayed one night for an event in Coventry. For the low price the standard of accommodation and breakfast was fine other than for the smell in the room. There was a damp smell that came from the bathroom. Everything appeared to be clean so we weren't sure what the cause was. If there was no smell we'd use the hotel again but otherwise no.
