the hotel is lovely however it does need a guestroom renovation. The staff is remarkable, especially the bellman and Front Office team. Everyone was very helpful and courteous. The restaurant team was also great.

Very accommodating. When I asked for new pillows as I have a feather allergy, they cane immediately and de feathered the entire bed so I could sleep well.

Pleasant one-night stay for theater and museums. Friendly, welcoming, staff, nice (if smallish) room. This is out go-to hotel when we come to New York for theater. A bit pricey in season, but so are all the comparable hotels.

The staff is very nice ad caring, they find solutions to any problems. However, the furniture and the style are very old-age. This hotel shouldn't be called a Sofitel as its services are vey limited and there is no luxury in there.

Loved it as always. Attentive staff except for one little annoying thing....one of the doors to the bathroom would not stay open and would slap shut as you push through. It was reported to the front desk but no one came to repair it. We had to prop the door open with a waste paper container.

« Holiday in New York that was made enjoyable thanks to Sofitel »

Beautiful room, the best hotel bed I've ever slept in, lovely view (14th floor), one of the best breakfast offerings I've seen in a long time. Service was generally good, with housekeeping/service staff delivering the tea kettle and ice that I asked for. There was, however, one occasion during which I asked for ice and it never arrived. Putting on classical music on radio during turn down service was a lovely touch, and walking into a room with classical music playing after a long day sightseeing was such a welcome feeling. Front desk was incredibly helpful and tended to my queries with warmth and friendliness. They helped me track down some belongings that I had forgotten in my room when I checked out and kept it for me when I returned again for another stay later that week. There was an issue with the housekeeping who disposed of an opened bottle of gin that I had left on the table (and oddly enough they did not touch the half-consumed bottles of water that had been on the same table for days). Front desk said they would follow up with housekeeping and I haven't heard from them since.

« The hotel staff was great the staff at Gaby’s restaurant and bar was not. »

We checked in at the hotel then went to Gaby’s for a drink while we waited for our room to be ready. The bartender at Gaby’s informed us in a very unfriendly way that we would have to move from the bar to a table (3 feet away) in order to be served a coffee drink. The next morning I went to get an orange juice for a sick person in my room. I told Gaby’s staff that I wanted to purchase an orange juice for the room. I was told that this was prohibited and could only be accomplished through room service. When I pressed, the waiter relented and asked his manager. The manager acquiesced but I was made to feel like I was secreting tiny jewels out of the restaurant. This is not customer service. And the contrast between the staff of the hotel and the staff of Gaby’s was bracing. We were treated like royalty on the hotel side but then treated like we were nonpaying customers attempting to use the public restrooms without permission on the Gaby’s side.

I’m a fan of the Sofitel in Europe. The New York offering is like ‘Sofitel lite’ the service is a little lacking, the style is a bit more brash but the beds are still amazingly soft and they have bathtubs as well as showers in the rooms so It beats many other hotels on this point alone.
