This is not our first time in Sofitel NYC and certainly not the last. Excellent location , amazing service and always every friendly team. Simply one of the very best hotels in NYC. Well done Sofitel !!

« Home away from home, until it's not... »

For 15 years, I have given the Sofitel my trust while traveling to New York City. From the moment of check in, I feel like I'm in my home away from home. I count on my room being clean, bed being luxurious, food service being prompt and the staff to be looking out for me as a member of their family. This past stay was meeting all marks until I checked out of my room, leaving both my diamond engagement ring and anniversary band behind. After a day of travel home, I realized what had happened and promptly called the hotel. No one returned my call. I called again and was put on hold, shuffled between teams and told "nothing was in the log". Throughout the course of the weekend, I checked back for further developments and received an email confirming my stay at the hotel. Only Derek in security offered sympathy and empathized with my situation. To date the rings have not been located and I am heart broken. Not only have I lost two pieces of jewelry that hold sentimental value, but I have lost trust in the staff that I regarded as "best in class".

« Over priced and short of delivery »

Checking in process was fine but the gym was non existent. I asked the front office manager and she advised me that most people that stays at the hotel do not use gym. They come for business or for entertainment. The food at the restaurant was below average and I called house keeping and the phone rung so many times and no one was there to help,us out. Finally I had to call the from desk.

You will find a variety of cardio and fitness equipment, we provide towels, apples and water. I stay at the Sofitel in NYC at least once a year. It is my go to Midtown property and has been for almost 7+ years. I still love the location and the property but I encountered a few issues during my most recent stay. First when I checked in I told the person checking me in that I had 2 different reservations. One made directly through the AccorHotels site and one through Expedia. Both were for the same class of room and I asked would to keep the same room. I was told yes. I was handed my complementary welcome drink vouchers and headed to my room. We waited for a bit to get our luggage but after about 15-20 minutes we decided to head out into the city and assumed the luggage would be delivered. We came back maybe 2 hours later and there was no luggage. We had a message on the phone which said since we were not in the room the luggage was not dropped off and to call down and it would be brought up. We did that and we received the luggage. Overall the King room be were given was as I remember them from past stays as far as size and amenities but I would describe it as a bit tired. Paint, carpet overall condition looked little worn. All of it was functional and clean but not crisp. I understand the rigors of running and maintaining a busy hote like the NYC Sofitel but am used to the rooms being on point. The last 2-3 stays at the property have been in high floor suites so maybe that has altered my expectations but I would expect the same level of detail to carry throughout the property. After getting settled in we went to the bar and I ordered a scotch. My wife ordered one of the bars signature cocktail. We then each had a second round. When presented with the bill I gave the bartender our welcome vouchers and was then told they were only for beer and wine. He stated that the program had recently changed. So our $45 bar bill instantly became a $90 bar bill. This all could have been avoided if I had been told to present the voucher before ordering or simply been told of the change to the Welcome drink program. During a stay in a DC Sofitel in Aug 2019 the old program was still in place. I was a bit embarrassed. I paid my bill and went on with my evening. The next day as I was leaving my room the nice women from housekeeping asked if we were checking out today. My wife said no we have a second reservation and will be keeping the same room. She was surprised because her worksheet said that we were checking out. I went to the front desk and they were able to check me out from the first reservation and then open the second. I did have to do the checking process again but that was not an issue. I inquired about the Welcome drink program change and was informed that yes the program had changed and vouchers where now given based on status and that she always recommends giving the voucher to the bartender prior to ordering. I recognized this particular employee as one who has helped me at the front desk multiple times over the year. She apologized about the confusion and informed me of other changes I might not be aware of like the 11:00 AM check out time vs the older 1:00P PM check out time. We were able to extend our checkout time to 12:00 PM and checked our bags with the bellhops. We had a 5 :00 flight so we went out for some site seeing and lunch. We returned to get our luggage and a car to LGA. While we were there we went the bar and got a drink. My wife ordered a glass of wine and I got a club soda with lime. I was presented with the bill and was surprised to see a $6.50 charge for water out of the soda dispenser, not a bottled sparkling water like Pellegrino. It seemed excessive but I paid it and left. We love the Sofitel brand because it is a luxury brand with amenities that also make it a great value. Little things like great service, a Welcome drink of choice and a 1:00 PM checkout are things that set the Sofitel apart from other properties in NYC. We were disappointed to learn that these were no longer part of the program. I felt gouged at the bar twice during my stay. These things were not enough to ruin the experience but they certainly stood out for us, Overall we enjoyed our stay and will return but I felt the need to let you know in detail about our experience.

« Great stay after moving from subpar room »

I love your hotel. It's my go-to in NYC. I have stayed there many times. This time, though, my initial room (1823, I believe) was sub-par. It was an odd-shaped room, with a smaller window that was not facing directly into the room. The bathroom smelled like cigarette smoke, and the fire alarm in the bedroom had been dislodged and was hanging off the wall. I requested to be moved into a new room. The front desk person apologized, and said he would be happy to move me to 2004 which was on the "preferred side of the hotel." Indeed it was a a great room. But I couldn't help but wonder, "I've stayed here about a dozen times . . .Why wouldn't they automatically put me in a room on the preferred side of the hotel?" I had a somewhat similar experience during my last visit. I always request a room away from the elevator, and the room I was assigned was right next to the elevator. So, I requested a new room and was assigned a better room. But, again, as a repeat guest I do not feel like I should have to keep asking for this. Other than disappointing room assignments, my stays have always been wonderful.

« Excellent stay, with a minor glitch »

Location and overall staff service were all good. The atmosphere was warm and cozy and the room was really nice and had everything. Only negative part was the Long wait for the concierge to pick up our baggage. We had to call three times and by that time, we were really fuming. It transpired that we had left the “Do not disturb” sign at the door and the concierge did not knock the first time. When we called the 2nd time, we were not told the reason. When we had to call the third time, the staff then told us that we had the “Do Not Disturb” sign on. The long wait could have been prevented if at the first time they saw the sign, someone called our room to inform us. Obviously, if we kept calling, we couldn’t have intended not to be disturbed! At the check out counter we complained about the long wait and, as expected they made us feel like we were at fault for leaving the “Do not Disturb” sign on. The unfortunate unhappy incident could easily have been avoided if the service staff had been more proactive.
