We stayed 3 nights. Breakfast every morning was good. Dinner one night in the Brassiere was very good. The front desk and concierge staff was very helpful. One item for improvement: there should be 1 or 2 hooks in the bathroom for hangers.

Upon arrival at 1pm we were told that our room was not ready but that two cleaners where currently in the room. We waited in the lobby for two hours with no update. When I inquired at 3pm another hotel person told us it was not ready but that there were two people in the room getting it ready and it wouldn't be ready for another 30 minutes even though 3pm was the published check in time and we were assured by the first staff member that it would be before or by 3pm. Given the price we paid I would expect better treatment knowing we were waiting and had traveled internationally. When we then finally were checked in at 3:30pm the butler was not available to take us to our room, this on its own was not a major deal but was just another factor in my overall impression (given we had been waiting at this time for almost 3 hours). Within 5 minutes of entering our room the entire power went out and we needed to call the hotel engineer who came to inspect the room (and asked what we did to cause this). We had not even yet unpacked! On the first morning we realized our room was next door to a service door that was repeatedly opened and closed (very loud slamming noise each time) at least once every 5 minutes - it was very annoying! We also could not lower our AC below 20 degrees which we would have liked to of. The TV screen in the bathroom over the bathtub did not work and could not be fixed although reported. After we stayed at a comparable 5-star hotel (Rosewood) in London and the service far exceeded that of the Sofitel Grand and was a more affordable rate. We had to ask for fresh towels since these were not replenished and the 'turn down' service was nothing other than placement of a Matt and slippers by the bed. At the Rosewood the turn down service included replenishment of needed supplies, and a nice tidy up of the room. Unfortunately at the Sofitel no needed supplies were replenished (towels, bathroom supplies, minibar) and on the first night they left our welcoming dirty wine glasses and used dining wear in the room without taking them out which I thought was not 5-star level service. The room for a suite as well was about half the size of our regular sized room at the Rosewood. I do not feel we received 5-star level service and for the price I paid this was not the level of care I expected. We are planning several more trips this year and had planned on staying at the Sofitel for these but this experience has changed that.
