Actually getting to the hotel is a challenge. I had read other reviews so I was prepared. However if you are parking a car and have luggage it is very challenging to make it through the heavily constructed vacant building that The Hotel resides in. The room itself was very comfortable and a good size. However it is very noisy outside and even on the fifth floor I have been awoken every night. I was a little disappointed that water was not included with the room even though I had their top-tier room. Additionally the staff as a whole is not too friendly. On the positive side The hotel is in a great location with lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance.

Room was value for money. I think the cost of the breakfast was far too high - especially with a bakery below. So we never had breakfast. We had an issue where the fire alarm went off at 1.30am on a Saturday night.

I have stayed here many times and it is a good hotel in a great location for train station and restaurants. On my last night the fire alarm was set of at 01:15am I was shown the fire escape and we were all let back in around 2am. This was a false alarm that someone set off, the staff did their job well but as I only got a few hours sleep to get up early for the airport it would be nice if the hotel chain gave all a voucher or something for the inconvenience.

« Room a bit dated and cigarette odor present »

The moment I stepped into the room I ended up wondering if that was a room where smoking was allowed, because there a was a definite odor of cigarette smoke present, which of course it was a non-smoking room. The scent didn't seem to disappear over my two nights stay and came from the bathroom. In the end it didn't bother me too much, since I only stayed two nights but if I would have stayed longer I would have asked for a different room.

The room was great but finding out there was a bed missing was a bit of a letdown. There were only 2 towels prepared too for a three person room. Our cards got blocked on the last day after noon so we couldn't go up anymore until we went to the service desk to reset them. Julia and the other employees have been very kind to us though, very helpful and a good chat..

We were staying in the hotel due to our attendance on the Pokemon Go fest and I must say that the Hotel and the Staff were very well prepared. The Staff wearing Pokemon tshirts, the pokestop in the hotel lounge/bar area were very nice touches. Room was big, clean and well equipped, I think there was something wrong with the AC as it was not cooling down the temp but since we were not staying that much in the room the electric fan was just fine. The hotel is very well located so we had no trouble getting there from the Hauptbanhof and also no issues getting from the hotel to jest Westfalenpark. The only minus I could find was the lack of vegan options for breakfast so we had to stick to fruit and coffee. All in all it was a very pleasant stay and if we come next year to Pokemong Go Fest in Dortmund we will definitely choose the same hotel again.

We have been in Hotel Mercure Dortmund City several times, but this time it was clear, that the hot needs a make over. Last year there was some work on the facade, and this year this job was not finished. We have no complain on the facilities inside the hotel, but if the price has to remain, then there has to be some upgrade here aswell. Otherwise the price has to be lovered. The personal, placement of the hotel etc is ok, but we think its time to an upgrade. Our next stay in dortmund we would maybe consider other options. BR Ralph C.

I really see your point and feel the problems you mentioned, it is a challenge to you, all our other guests and for my team too. I can assure you that, if the construction site of the fascade would be in my or my companies hands. It would have been finished within one year clearly. But this fascade renovation is in the hands of the owner of the property, we are only renting here. Why am I telling you this? Is it to back up behind the owner? No it is not, it is just my feeling that a regular guest like you, a guest that takes the time to make a comment and give his suggestions, should receive a honest and clear answer from the manager. To be really honest, the owner started to build on our new entrance just the last week, before there was nobody working on the fascade for month. Therefor I am quite happy for at least something is happening right now. When it will be done and the new renters are inside the building it will be a big improvement for the whole area for sure. Rooms were clean and tidy. Bed was comfortable and location was great. However, the key card system needs upgrading as I've experienced the card not working a few times and had to have it reprogrammed due to magnetic interference . The breakfast was great, but could do better by providing a bit of variety during mid week as the food was same for the whole week I was staying there. Staff was friendly and responsive. Overall , great experience.

Nice hotel in a great location for the city centre and train station, however try not to get a room facing the back as there is a rather noisy bar and if you are there for work like i was getting up at 6am when the bar is going until 2am is not fun. Also why are there no power sockets near the bed?

Normally, I always get a room on the 4th or 5th floor on the right side of the hallway (rooms 412-416 or 512-516). These don't have the sun in the afternoon and have quiet location. This time, I stayed in room 422 which is on the left side of the hallway. The airco didn't work that well which made it hard to make the room a little bit cooler. There was also a lot of noise coming into the room because of a group of youngster hanging around on the place/area between the buildings. Again, no criticism related to the service. Just the room location was not optimal. My preference is to have a room on the other side of the hall. Thanks.

The hotel which is above a strange empty shopping mall, is pleasant enough with good sized rooms, i was at the back and there was some noise from a local bar, but it was a saturday night. Overall its a good location for the city centre and the many restaurants & bars, plus great access to the Hauptbahnhoff.
