Enjoyable stay. Great location, walking distance to Darling Harbour, Star, Chinatown and CBD. Had room upgrade, complimentary breakfast and bottle of wine. Staff was great and friendly. Rooms were refurbished recently

« An experience I cannot discribe with words :( »

I have stayed at the Novotel Sydney Darling Square for three nights and I have to say our stay there was not a very enjoyable one, in fact, we felt discriminated most of the times. I have emailed your hotel beforehand to seek your help to store my luggage while I travel around Australia after my exchange program in Wollongong. I was instantly greeted with your staff (two of them) upon arrival with looks of discrimination and disdain on 26 June morning. To be honest, that was really hurtful. When I approached your concierge and told them I have contacted the hotel beforehand to store our luggage, they have unsubtly rejected me with an annoyed tone. Only upon telling them that I have a reservation, they then unwilling accepted my request. And on 2nd July's night, I have returned back to your hotel for my stay. Thankfully, I was greeted by a friendly staff for the first time in your hotel and got my room key seamlessly and later that night, I was served by another friendly staff at the concierge when I'm there to request for toothbrushes. I thought that I can put the hiccup behind me and enjoy my stay but to my surprise, I was greeted by another staff of yours who once again gave me looks of discrimination and disdain when I've approached the concierge the day before we leave when we went to enquiry about the minibar in my room. If your staff cannot be friendly to people of all gender, race, and religion, then why are they working in a hotel that is directly next to Chinatown? As an Accor member, I was very disappointed with the service I got. I don't expect your hotel to have very good facilities or big, spacious rooms but the very least, I want to feel respected by your staff when I pay for my accommodation but on my short trip, 3 out of the 6 staff who served me were not only rude and disrespectful but they have also given me a very bad mood (I felt like I am not worthy to stay at your hotel) after talking to them.

Breakfast was horrible. I've never seen bacon look so petrified, it looked like it was cooked 3 weeks earlier and just reheated. The eggs were more like soup, tried some fresh fruit instead but it was either soggy or wasn't ripened. Went for breakfast elsewhere on the second morning. Had the "Do Not Disturb" light on the room, however came back that afternoon and found the room was all made up again. Found someones earing on the floor which may have come from one of the cleaners. The heater was difficult to operate, kept setting the fan on low and it would keep reverting back to high. When I finally managed to get it to stay on low fan, the metal fins vibrated all night, so turned it off.

« It was very disappointing, one mix up after another especially food related. »

Firstly, I ordered my free drink at the bar to be told I could not have a Rose as there was none. While I was sitting there I noticed Rose was given to other ladies via the free drink voucher. The bar tender just raised his eyebrows at me. As I was a female (66) travelling on my own I choose to have in room dining. The first night the meal was totally horrible. The side of vegetables I ordered were old, stale and the beans were even showing signs of rotting on the ends. I was offered another plate, but really, they would have been just the same. I did take photos to show someone the next day. The second night I was given a free bottle of wine as an apology. Thank you, and the meal I ordered was lovely. On the third night I decided to order the same meal. It took forever to arrive and when it did it was not the same as the previous night, it was nothing like it was supposed to be. The vegetables that were supposed to be with the meal were not served, the only vegetable on the plate was broccoli. I phoned and they came and checked it and agreed with me and said they would replace the meal. This was done but it took nearly two hours as there was apparently a problem in the kitchen. I did wonder why we were not offered to get food delivered from outside the hotel. I had also ordered a glass of wine which did not arrive. To add to all of this whenever I tried to phone there was a problem with the phones and I had to go down to reception to get any response. This was not just the first night I had the phone problem. When I spoke to staff they seemed to be very genuine with regards to responding, but I ask why did I have a problem after the first night. I also found it rather annoying that I chose to reuse my towels and left the card saying so but they still replaced them everyday. Why bother asking if you will reuse? I also had to go downstairs and ask for some teabags as they were not replaced on any of the days. Little things I know but they do have an effect on your overall stay at the hotel. I chose to stay at this hotel for the location and also as I was travelling on my own the website state3d the dining room was open for dinner. It was not, I was told that was due to renovations, but, really, if it was ok for breakfast why not for dinner. I have been a member of Accor for at least 7 years and I have never had such a lousy stay anywhere. This has made me think about wether I wish to remain a member. I will add that when I checked out there was no charges for my food or drinks which is as it should have been. I do feel that I wasted some of my Accor points by staying at this hotel. I am usually not a complainer but I can not help complaining when every night there was an issue.

« Parking is misleading »

Great rooms and location BUT on the website it mentions that parking is "available". This is misleading as parking is via way of a Wilson parking site a few blocks from the Hotel where one wrong turn takes you to the other side of the city. I experienced this dilemma on a very busy Friday night where driving 2 blocks can take half an hour in traffic. I was late to a wedding reception because of this misleading parking availability and will not choose to stay at this Hotel in future as a result.

« A Gem of a stay also, we enjoyed it imencessly with family. »

Our whole stay for 3 days was met with great staff and services for our needs, even when our child was sick. So many staff were helpful from front desk to breakfast staff. We were treated very well and wish to thank Nicolas and his team at the front desk for making our stay so easy and enjoyable. Its peaceful and clean, and well situated. We do enjoy staying here and how staff treat us.
