« we expected more from Novotel. »

Hotel location was good but we're dissapointed in the overall experience. Especially as we have much better experiences at Novotel all over Europe: - Quality of the breakfast was way to low., no decaf coffee (except for powder but that is no coffee, hard and dry bread, bad tasting orange juice, ....

Welcome on reception was cold. The staff member did not smile at all and did not make you feel welcome. Room was clean and comfortable, but looking a bit dated now. Bed, pillows and bedding were very comfortable as usual for a novotel which is very important. Food and drink was very good and the bar staff were helpful and friendly although one of them did not smell particularly fresh - personal hygiene is a necessity when working with other people. Range of food and breakfast facilities was very good. Quick check, out worked well and we got a smile as we left! Would stay again because I stop in a lot of Novotel hotels and you know what you will get, but there are elements of the service that could be improved.

Very expensive price for that basic room. Just one bottle of water left and was not replenish for second nigth. No bas in the room. Room service too basic.

I enjoyed my stay. The room was nice and the hotel is centrally located nearby local shops and restaurants and only a few minutes walk from the nearest train station. The personnel was nice and the food was good. I would stay here again.

« Great improvements to the communal areas. Staff friendly and helpful. »

I often stay at Novotel Mechelen. Recently they've improved some of the communal areas including the reception furniture and the gym equipment. The staff are always very welcoming and happy to help. For a stay in Mechelen, the Novotel is in a brilliant location - it is easy to walk to shops, restaurants and bars. Plus you are right by the water so you can have a nice walk along the canal. It is next to a supermarket which is useful for chocolate shopping! I'd recommend this hotel to colleagues, family and friends.

When staying in a Novotel, you normally expect a "boring" experience with no surprises (upwards or downwards). This time was no different, except that under the sofa bed there was a sock from a previous guest and it was dirty. We went out for dinner and asked the receptionist to send someone to take the sock out. We were out a couple of hours and when we were back the sock was still there. We had to go down again and this time the receptionist came up and took the sock, but no cleaning or anything else was done. Very disappointing experience on this sense. The rest as usual: comfortable bed, good breakfast and quick to get in and out.
