« How to ensure I never book a Novotel again »

Step 1. Deny a prepaid booking made 2 months ago even exists when guest arrives at the hotel. Step 2. Take 2 hours to find replacement room - 1 year old and a pregnant lady in our family Step 3. Board us in a serviced apartment when I clearly paid for a hotel Step 4. Charge tray charges even when bringing just water bottles to the room Step 5. Useless room cleaning. Bed sheet not changed for 5 days

I arrived at the hotel quite late around 10.30pm. Reception staff was friendly and welcoming and upgraded my room which was a nice surprise. Room was very comfortable and modern. Location is perfect and although parking is very small I got a space no problem. Only problem was the cost of the parking, especially for myself arriving at 10.30pm and left at 7am. Overall lovely hotel and would stay again.

We were upgraded by the hotel to a Suite after my boss paid for Champagne in the room to celebrate our Engagement. What a lovely gesture, the Suite was beautiful, the view brilliant and the shower was a game changer! Breakfast was lovely and the staff were really friendly.

We booked 2 rooms for 2 nights at the Novotel Edinburgh. Everything was great including the rooms and location until we (family of 4 adults and 2 kids) were having breakfast. We were using the waffle machine when one of the staff members told us to use only one bottle of the waffle mix while we were using one and a quarter. We told him very respectfully that one bottle doesn't seem enough at which point he called us "crazy people" in front of other guests. Felt very disrespectful. We asked his name and reported this to the on duty hotel manager. The manager then contacted the employee and requested him to apologize. And to our surprise, the employee refused to so and as a curtsey the manager offered not charge for the parking. If it was about saving money, there are plenty of cheaper accommodations available. We have never been treated more disrespectfully at any other hotel we have ever stayed at. As an employee in a service industry, you never call your hotel guests crazy, even if they are. Basic lack of training. Just for reference the employee name was "Daniel".

Awful, the first night was a disaster as it took three attempts in asking staff to make up the sofa bed for our children, this was finally done at 11.30pm at night!! We first asked them to do this when we checked in and again at 8pm and then again at 10.40pm, we had been traveling from by car from London and were extremely tired. We had an early start in the morning that had to be canceled due to the children being so tired. We were there to celebrate our Anniversary and had put that in the comments when booking. No discount or compensation or sincere apology was made. When we went for breakfast there was no instruction from staff member as what to do, food was over cooked and floor and table were dirty. Had to ask for different cutlery as this was also dirty.

The hotel lacks the warmth, friendliness & the welcoming aspect in the entire team. The staff members at the restaurant we’re absolutely not friendly, & were just not accommodative in any way.. We were a big group of 16 people with age group varying between 2yrs & 80yrs. The team was not even courteous to offer a smile & escort us to the table. A hand gesture was what that they had to show. A complete let down..

Not the most recent Novotel we have stayed in but clean rooms with space (the view from our room was not pretty dough). Very good service. The kitchen on the other site could use a good cook in stead of micro oven preparations.

We enjoyed our stay. A few observations: The service at reception could have been warmer. At various points in the city we experienced a nicer welcome, visitors like pleasant staff with smiles! Perhaps some training in Scottish charm for reception staff. The room was fine, small for a superior room. We had a sofabed for our daughter which was the only option given to me on booking. She kept waking up and then I learned why— the sofa bed was incredibly uncomfortable. It had a big join in the middle, was not level and was extremely hard. Breakfast had all the ingredients to be great but staff could not keep on top of it — seemed to not be properly managed. Over three days we came early, in the middle of the busy period and late — there was no distinction, it was always chaotic. Service in the bar/ lounge was patchy— gave up waiting to order a drink after 20 mins and went to bar to be told they would give table service — gave up after 15 mins. The hotel was comfortable, clean and well located. I will recommend it but advise against the sofa bed and also inform people to don their armour at breakfast!

Good service from staff. I’d like to mention the tall, blonde staff member that checked us in and out by name but didn’t get her name - she was great. Room comfortable and well designed. I like that the toilet was separate from the bathroom. The pool looked good though we didn’t have time to use it. I’d prefer that there were more breakfast payment options - say if you just want a coffee and croissant but don’t want to pay the full £13 charge for the buffet. Or a cheaper rate for kids that don’t each much too.

our stay was as always very nice, my only complaint is the costing of the overnight carpark and the exiting of same as the ages failed to open on leaving, causing me to leave the vehicle on the outlet ramp whilst i had to go back to notify reception

Our experience in your restaurant was very disturbing. We have no doubts that we were victims of discrimination in your dining establishment. We are 2 couples of retirement age, I am a Portuguese man and my wife is of Chinese decent. Our friends are a gay married couple Caucasian/Chinese. We are proper, well mannered, retired educated retirees on holiday. We entered your restaurant with only 4 tables occupied. Within 45 minutes the tables all around us were filled. Our order was taken promptly but delivery of our meal took forever. We observed exact same entries delivered to other patrons well before ours were even considered. Getting the attention of our servers was nearly impossible after our orders were taken. We were the last to be served. When we asked for an explanation, your servers appeared ill at ease in their explanations. In this day and age we are shocked an organization as large as Novotel does not monitor or enforce anti-discrimination policies.
