« What a fabulous hotel! »

We had a wonderful time staying in your hotel. First of all, thank you very, very much for the upgrade! What a lovely suite.....everything that we could possibly need, and we loved the whole experience. I used the swimming pool on both days that we were there, and it was extremely clean and a good temperature. Breakfast was out of this world......such a lot to choose from. We loved our cocktails in the bar each night! On our first night, we had dinner from the buffet, and again, it was an amazing choice of food and we ate far too much delicious food. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff: everyone was extremely pleasant, helpful and smiling, and it made our stay in Chengdu memorable.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sofitel Chengdu. Staff were great and the room was nice and clean. The hotel is very well presented overlooking the river and is beautiful when you step inside. The room was excellent, sparse and plenty of features. The concierge was helpful and assisted with taxi's and directions. A great stay and felt well looked after by the team at the Sofitel Chengdu Taihe.

Good Hotel with the best valuable promotion for the junior suite. The price is less than 500 RMB per night after discount with breakfast for two people. The Hotel location is also very close to the business center. The Hotel Carpark is free for the guest.

The moment we checked in we were told we’d been given a room upgrade. In fact the suite was what we had booked and paid for in advance, partly so we had lounge access. The evening before checking out, the duty manager phoned our suite asking me to verify we had paid. The hotel’s finance department could not find a record, due to the fact they had changed accounting systems in the nine months since the booking was made. That should not have been my problem, and the hotel should’ve ensured it had proper systems in place for the changeover of their system. I was able to find a bank statement on line to confirm the payment and showed this to the duty manager. But this was not the end of the issue. On the morning of checkout, front desk staff called another manager. He again asked to prove we had paid in advance. This time it was done at the front desk with other guests nearby. That was very embarrassing. Again I showed a bank statement as well as the printout of the online booking. I was told my credit card authorisation would be held until the finance department could confirm the following day, as this was happening on a Sunday. Although an apology was eventually received by email the following day, with the offer to ensure we receive special treatment if we stay again, it doesn’t make up for the hotel’s failure to have proper accounting systems in place and for the embarrassment of being accused of not paying for accommodation. This reflects poorly not only on the hotel, but also on Accor, whose website was used to make the booking. We are unlikely to stay again, despite the standard of the accommodation and the hotel’sclocation.

This really is a very nice, clean and well appointed hotel. My room was excellent and the breakfast was very good with a great choice of very good quality food. So, so far nothing remarkable, it is pretty well what you would expect from a Sofitel, however, what made this stay exceptional for me were the people. Everyone from the reception staff, to bar, to lounge to restaurant people were unfailingly helpful and exceptionally friendly. They are a real credit to the hotel management and the Sofitel brand. They really made my stay a pleasure and I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel or recommending it to others. The only slight downside I could see was the location, which probably isn't the most convenient for walking to amenities like shops etc. (although there is a nice walk down the river bank), but the metro is close and so it is still pretty easy to get about in this lovely city.

The hotel itself is nice, a bit dated but good value considering the price, and in a fairly good location. The room itself was big (as we got upgraded due to our gold status) but the bed was rather uncomfortable, and whilst the bathroom is big, it’s an odd layout and also having no door next to where the bed is means if you use the bathroom at night it wakes up the other person in the room. The biggest disappointment was the service quality from staff, particularly the front desk staff. Every interaction with them was particularly negative. When checking in, I went to the Accor Gold member priority queue - only to be directed to the normal queue. Why have a priority queue and promote it as an Accor Gold benefit if you refuse to let Gold members use it? Then, the front desk guy checking us in was rude, no friendly attitude, no smile, no conversation, no explanation of facilities... the only thing he said to us was that we only booked the room for 1 as there was no record of my partner’s details. Firstly, the room was definitely booked for 2 people (as stated in the confirmation email), and your booking app doesn’t give an option to provide the details of a second person, just the fact there will be 2 people! On top of all of that, whilst serving us and processing our check in, OTHER STAFF MEMBERS would interrupt him serving us to get him to do something for them! I would half-understand if it was another customer who was being unreasonably rude, but your own staff should know better! He then just handed over our room keys, didn’t tell us the room number, what floor, where the lifts were, whether or not we did get a preferred room... we weren’t even sure if the check in procedures were complete; when we asked him, his response was nothing more than a grunt. The next day, when I went to the front desk again to ask if I could settle the room’s account so far, the front desk staff was also very unhelpful. Firstly, he called us over to serve us, but whilst he was dialing out on the phone at the same time. I was more than happy to wait until he was finished but he insisted I tell him what I wanted, so started to explain I wanted to settle the bill so far first, explaining the circumstances, and of course, the person he was calling picked up, so he had to stop me from speaking so he could talk to the other person, being incredibly rude and wasting our time. When he got off the phone we had to start the conversation again, and what was incredibly infuriating and stupid is that he kept insisting that the booking was supposed to check out that day... we were speaking to him around 5pm, if the booking really ended that day, why would we be still here and not already checked out or be contacted by someone, or our room keys stop working... eventually he figured out that it wasn’t the case, and then he told us that because the room was being paid for using points, he was unable to tell us how much needs to be paid as the system was down. How is that possible?? What if I actually did have to check out at that time? Would I get the room for free just because the system is down? And what about offering to tell me what other expenses I can pay for first? The final interaction with the front desk was also not pleasant; the check out procedure was fine, however as it was raining we asked for an umbrella and the response was they didn’t have any or they’d run out... for such a large, 5 star hotel, it really concerns me that you don’t have some basics right like enough umbrellas! Some other little service-related issues, half the time there was no door man to greet you at the drive way, and the other half of the time he didn’t actually do anything, wouldn’t open the car door or hotel door, or greet you, or anything... The housekeeping was okay except if you’re going to provide s turndown service, you might also want to consider refreshing the water bottles too (especially given the issue with 1 pax vs 2 pax at check in was because they’d only “prepared the room” for 1 person, so if you knew it wasn’t the case anymore, you could have corrected it and provided enough water) I’m also glad we didn’t prepay for the breakfast; I know it was relatively cheap however there was very little variety. Overall a really disappointing experience, I would not consider staying at this hotel again, and also reconsidering whether even try to maintain my status with Accor by being loyal to their hote brands.

Staff did not recognise Accor Elite status at check-in. Elite members usually receive a welcome drink, a welcome letter from the hotel manager, late check-out offer, and possibly a room upgrade. None of this happened to me. Worse, I was allocated a room facing a construction site. Location wise, although it is located in the city centre it is not really walkable to anything except a subway station. There are absolutely no shops or restaurants nearby. Room is also compact. I will not return and cannot really recommend this hotel to anyone.

Stayed on 20th floor so had a good view over the city. Room very comfortable with good lighting. Excellent service in the buffet restaurant with a wide selection of tasty dishes. The hotel was within comfortable walking distance of a Metro station.

Great location by the side of the river. Hotel feels very luxurious, with great guest rooms and comfortable beds. Excellent choice at breakfast buffet and lovely bar lounge for relaxing after a hard day of sightseeing. Staff were very helpful especially concierge and reception staff.
