It was my second time staying at Novotel Balikpapan. Staff were kind and helpful. Room was spacious and comfy. The problem was, the heater was not functioning so I couldn’t use the bathtub and had to shower in cold. The water was yellow at first time it came out. It really need to be fixed. It’s Novotel, it’s five-star hotel. It can’t be remained that way.

Overall facilities are still ok, although some amenities are missing. Free Wifi connection in room is not working, difficult to get access. Breakfast menu is fine and still consistent with variety of choices. Just wonder if guests history is used for reference by Receptionist...was not being confirmed the guest preference when I did checking in.

Nice hotel to stay, comfort and breakfast is good too. One improvement I'd suggest is to improve internal communication and guest' request tracking system in housekeeping section. When I firstly checked in the room 537, I found there is no towel in the bathroom and I called housekeeping to ask for. A few minutes later, towel provided. But, another 30 minutes someone else bring another towel. And about an hour later, someone else came to bring another towel. Totally three times housekeeper bring towels and it was disturbing.

I was staying at one of the Deluxe room#802 and found out the water drainage was slightly blocked and causing the pouring water from shower area was flowing and flood the bathroom. Clearly this needs improvement. Nevertheless the room was clean and comfortable. Great breakfast choices.

There was no ethernet cable in the room so I called the reception at around 7:30pm. First call to the reception when I asked for the cable, she just hung up on me. No call back, then I called again for the second time. No apology or whatsoever, then she told me to wait as she transfered the call to the housekeeping. But it wasnt housekeeping who answered but it was laundry. He then asked my room number and told me to wait as he contacted the housekeeping to deliver the cable to me. 20minute passed noone came, then I called the housekeeping, but it was the retarded recepetion who answered and amazingly she transfered the call to laundry instead of housekeeping. It was the same person who pickup the phone (from the laundry). He didnt even remember i asked for the cable and just told me to wait again like last time. 30min passed again and nothing came. In addition to that, the bathtub has terrible drainage as it flooded the bathtub as i was taking a bath. The remaining bathroom wasnt clean as well as there was a dead bug or whatever that was near the closet. Novotel is supposed to be 4 stars hotel, isnt it? It felt like it was 2 or 3 stars hotel. Does Accor ever audit or check on Novotel Balikpapan?

The breakfast menu lacks variation from time to time when I stay. Changing the drinking water from bottle to gallons is good and not representation 4 /5 stars hotel because of the quality of bottled mineral water and gallons is different.

I visited Balikpapan for business trip aftermore than 5 years, and I was surprised that Novotel Balikpapan same I stayed before does not have much change, nor improvement. Hotel is quite old and out dated, and some fitting especially in bathroom starts to fall apart, for example shower head. Wifi is also quite slow and dropped off frequently. I have to use my own wifi to access internet. Breafast however was good, with good variety of food, but exepct to see more dessert.
