I was happy with the room, was in a quiet location as requested. Staff were very friendly. I tried to book a second night but was disappointed to be given a higher price than I paid for my first night; which i felt was not good So I checked out and used another venue.

« Overpriced Hotel »

The room was classed as executive but apart from size it was nothing of the sort. The hotel needs serious modernisation. The bed was not a kingsize but 2 beds pushed together with 2 single mattress’s which left a ridge. The bathtub was tiny for an executive room. The toiletries caused sink irritation. The toilets located in the basement local to reception are appalling with serious damp problems. The website did not make it clear there was a charge for parking otherwise I would not have booked.

This was our third stay at this hotel, meeting with family and friends to enjoy Winchester during a little quieter time of year over an Easter weekend. The room overlooking the magnificent Cathedral was worth the upgrade, despite the repair works with scaffolding around the cathedral. We did not take meals in the hotel this time because of meeting various friends and family for breakfasts, brunches and dinners in local venues.

Check-in online was straightforward- no issues with the room. Just a couple of maintenance points to pass on. The bathroom shower screen leaked so that caused a big puddle on the floor after use and the smoke detector on the ceiling ot the bedroom was covered with a plastic carrier bag and sealed in with an elastic band or similar. A potential Health and Safety issue in case of fire. Otherwise the stay met our requirements.

I enjoyed my stay. The room was fine and the staff were friendly and very helpful. As a wheelchair user, the doorbell at the accessible rear entrance made getting back into the hotel a much improved, smooth experience. My only gripe is that the mattress on my bed was too soft and sinky.

It started with arriving to a parking lot that had no free spaces and a front desk that couldn’t care despite the fact that at least 3 cars were taking more than one space (One Golf was in 3 spaces!). We arrived in the afternoon and were told it was first-come and no apology. With a straight face, the desk told me to park a block and a half away in a pay lot without comment, offer to help with bags or any kind of welcome. Check in was chilly despite the clerk making a big deal that he was giving me a Prestige Room (which I’m entitled to as an Accor Silver member) and no drink tickets(which should also be park of my membership perks). He never explained where the room was, anything about the hotel, bar or amenities. We went to the room - which had definitely seen better days and a bathroom literally decorated with mold and mildew. We walked by the desk a couple of times, even past the manager and no one made eye contact, said hello, good evening or anything! Even when we walked out the next morning at 7 am with our luggage, new crew in, no greeting, no let me get the door or how was your stay? I gave them a huge American smile and said Have a nice day! after it became apparent they weren’t going to acknowledge us. Please Accor, never promote a single person from this miserable place to my beloved Sofitel’s! I felt like I spent my time in an exercise for hotel hospitality where the staff was instructed to do absolutely everything wrong as a learning drill. Absolutely awful!

« Not great, door lock wasn't working and was loose. Hotel is tired and needs updating. »

Said it in the title. I had to go down to reception 4 times to get replacement keys and none of them worked. I had to go out of the hotel and then by the time I got back it had been sorted. Generally the room was tired and needed updating, the TV seemed to be more difficult to use that it should have been - generally not happy with my stay.

The hotel is centrally situated for the Cathedral, shops and Restaurants. The hotel and accommodation was acceptable however the room was slightly cold so we had to ask for another heater. Parking is also a problem with a wait of around 15 minutes to secure a parking place.

« Hotel in prime position but in need of upgrade »

Reception friendly though limited information on check in. Room adequate smelt musty so left window open when went out for 5 hrs. Bed comfy and view excellent. Reception helpful when asked questions. Great to be able to take dogs. Breakfast good and wished the rooms were as nice as the breakfast room. A good night's sleep excellent location and good breakfast. Hotel in need of a revamp and once done would be amazing

« Nice staff but dated building in need of refurbishment »

Our bed room was a bitty tatty and had seen better days, carpet grubby, furniture was old, the rom was small, but it had a great view of the cathedral. The hotels is in the centre of Winchester , near shops etc. The staff were friendly and very helpful and made up for some of the hotels shortfalls.

Everything was fine, apart from the constant noise from the kitchen exctractor fan. My room was right above the kitche. I asked to move room, but none were available.

« Grim and disappointing »

Decor very shabby ,dull unclean carpets, shabby building. Extra charges for parking unsatisfactory. Grim and dirt in bathroom shower curtain and also shower door. Poor quality of food for breakfast ,also pre cooked and displayed on hot plates which kept food barely like warm. Did not have breakfast after first morning. Staff were vert helpful and friendly.
