I have often stayed at the Mercure Winchester Wessex and I have always found staff to be friendly and professional. The rooms and furniture are a little dated but the view of the cathedral is beautiful. The location of the hotel is very convenient for the town centre and at the same time offers quiet and tranquility.

I asked, how and if the receptionists both at night and in the morning at check out plus on the phone later on another person told me, my loyalty points will be added to my account, I do not need to do anything, they took my card number etc.

« Friendly staff, good service and value for money. »

The accommodation was good as expected, I stayed with a group and the private dinners were in good surrounding and the food very good. Staff were efficient and dealt effectively with one small problem. Overall the experience was good.

« Disappointed with room and charges »

I booked online and got your “best price “ but upon checking in realised it was more expensive than your advertised rate in reception. I was then advised I would be charged for parking ( no mention of this before!) and not informed that the road would be closed the next morning due to a cycle event! Also, my car was damaged in the car park. I am really upset that I paid a lot of money (£200) for 1 night and the bed was uncomfortable, pillows were dreadful and the room was shabby. I would not recommend this hotel at all.

We had a very comfortable room and the breakfast was satisfying. Coffee lukewarm but tasted ok. Staff in the main were very helpful. Hotel looked a bit tired and in some areas there was very little atmosphere.

« Disappointing »

The room was a decent size but the furniture,carpet,bathroom was grotty - tired and old. There should have been a complimentary bottle of water in the room and a small fridge with a small jug of fresh milk in it. Small things (and inexpensive) but they add to a guest's comfort considerably. However, the staff on reception were very pleasant.

« Decent experience let down badly by intransigence of billing/booking process »

A error in the booking process led to me being overcharged for an unnecessary night's stay. The hotel refused to compromise regarding this matter which clouded the experience

The staff who cleaned my room deserve all the praise especially one young lady who was thorough, polite and cheerful . I do not remember her name but my room was 138 and I know she always cleans these rooms. The rest of the staff were courteous at all times and were always there to assist.Unfortunately i have a small complaint that being the room keys. I had to get mine redone 4 times.The firstI understood to be my fault by keeping it with my phone but the other 3???

Service and facilities as in other Mercure hotels. Nice large room. Pillow too thick and hard. Overall the hotel was slightly outdated in terms of furnishing.

The hotel was ok. The rooms were older and smelt a bit like bleach. Bathroom looked a bit moldy. No air conditioning. Liked getting a laundry bag with towels daily.

« Nice Hotel, very pleasant service. »

Very pleasant with one exception. Booking was made for two 'family rooms' plus one double room. The 'family rooms were confirmed at booking each as a pair of adjoining rooms partially interconnected. On arrival and checking in we found one family room as described, the second to be one half of an interconnecting pair with the second half of the pair then dividing us from the other allocated room i.e. in this case rooms 214 and 216 with the second part of the expected pair, 215 between them. The receptionist did apologise but stated that there was nothing she could do about it. Not exactly satisfactory when we had young children to consider

Breakfast has declined to that of a motorway service station. No service, eggs hard on top, no freshly made pot of tea. It is adequate but far short of what one expects of a 4 star establishment.
