Four of us stayed for 1 night - 2 rooms. One room was newly refurbished, the other was awaiting attention. Both rooms were in good order and clean. Staff firiendly and helpful. Breakfast was superb. dd

The positive was it was handy for centre of town and convenient for trunk road to access places. Otherwise didn’t feel it warranted higher price than budget hotel.

a good check in experience, room was comfortable, bathroom was very nice, but the floorboards were SO creaky, it was impossible to move around with out making a noise, the room was also directly above the restaurent, and was audible until around 11pm. I would certainly not want to stay on the 1st floor again if all the rooms have creaky floors.

« Room and hotel in general was tired and in need of a refurb. »

The exterior of the hotel was lovely and parking was straightforward. Staff at reception / check in were good however staff at breakfast seemed disinterested although the actual breakfast on offer was good. The interior of the hotel and room was tired and in need of a refurbishment, also the sound proofing between rooms was not adequate. I was also disappointed that there were no gym facilities available.

« Poor Service & Tired Decor »

My experience of Mercure & Sofitel Hotels has previously been very good. I am not sure if there were any unusual circumstances but the service here was very poor. For example staff at breakfast had been clearly been trained to take room numbers but little else (taking non-buffet orders, for example) and bar staff disappeared for long periods of time and had to be tracked via reception on more than one occasion. Despite an advertised 06:30 breakfast start the buffet was not layer out before 07:20. This building has some beautiful architectural features but I suspect a refurbishment is required to provide an experience that is consistent with other Mercure branded Hotels.

« Tired hotel in need of updating »

Walkway from car park to hotel had a lot of uneven paving slabs - Trip Hazard. Room was tired, dirty net curtains, very poor repairs to bathroom tiles, hard bed, no toilet brush, in all very dated. Public rooms showing a lot of wear and tear. Breakfast was poor, at 0900 am. The buffet had not been refreshed and the food was unappealing. Many containers were empty. The hotel has prime position in Farnham and should be a pleasure to stay in. In fact it was a disappointing experience throughout, come on Accor, put some investment back into the hotel and make it a place people will enjoy coming to stay in.

Lovely location. Reception set up is a bit weird but staff friendly. Hotel is very tired in places especially the room we had. Also only one plug socket. Would stay again but not for the price I paid.

Excited about staying although only live in Hook My partner and I decided to stay to visit the Castle and restaurants. Upon arrival I was given room No 013 my birthday 13 so I was fine with that. After carrying my own cases to the room ! The room was very HOT and stuffy I opened the sash window which came straight down in my finger which instantly cut the skin bruised and very sore, then I noticed the cord on the window was broken. I immediately went to reception, the gentleman fetched a glass of ice then we went to the room he agreed the window was broken and offered us another room 014 which was fine. Also it was me who requested we fill in an accident form. I was given a drink voucher I ordered a G&T to be told I could only have a Gin OR a tonic. ..!!! Back to reception. ..!!! During the evening most guest's were waiting for bar service at no point it was the barman's fault just volume guests odering both food and drinks. The room was clean and bed comfortable. Cost of room €123.00 Just lacked a few personnel touches. It's now Monday evening my finger is black and still painful no one has called to see how I am !

The stay was disappointing in several respects. Our room was far below the standard we expected. The radiator in the bathroom was filthy, the towel rail did not work nor did the extractor. The tiles were randomly patched and the Bath sealant was covered with black mould. It was a surprise to find ourselves the only diners in a cold dining room on a Friday evening. Two of the sides were not available on the main menu nor one of the pub style choices. Since the menu was scant to start with the experience was far from the relaxing evening we had envisaged. The waitress brought us a small fan heater of the sort you keep for emergencies at home but again the austerity was a shock when our planning of this weekend away had led us to expect so much more. At breakfast the 3 waitresses were inattentive and spent their time chatting rather than taking special orders and clearing dishes from the table. We were fast coming to the conclusion that the staff were inadequately trained and poorly managed. Throughout the weekend we avoided making a formal complaint, not wishing to spoil what should have been a special weekend away but on checking out made our feelings known to the duty manager. He shared our concerns and said that he would pass on our criticism to the general manager. A week later I have not heard anything by way of explanation from the hotel and so what was not a favourable experience on several fronts has become a most negative one. It will be highly unlikely that we risk a stay in a Mercure hotel again.

I stayed one night, the location was right for me as I was attending a meeting in the local area at very short notice. The hotel is in an excellent location for eating out, and there is a good sized free car park, along with free wifi. Room wise, it was very tired, probably how you feel at the end of the summer school holidays as a parent or at the end of a marathon or some other equally arduous task. The carpet was threadbare in places, and didn't actually meet the skirting boards. The curtains were probably from the Tudor times and had seen better lifetimes. The walls had some strange drips on them, and the sinks gurgled in the night. I was impressed that the grouting in the bathroom was clean, but the radiator was chipped. Overall it felt a bit like the Overlook Hotel from the Shining, but without the oranges and tricycles

« Expensive very convenient for our purpose »

Quite a long walk from the cAr park when you have to unload a disabled person + dogs + baggage but overall a nice place to stay. Rather a lot of unnecessary furniture in room but access to the garden wonderful for walking the dogs. 'Free' drinks in fridge but no bottle opener! Excellent bed and nice shower room, the essentials for a very comfortable stay.

Stayed for one night and had a reasonable experience. Room was nice, beds very comfortable. TV not working and air con/heat very noisy. Shower was good and bathroom was good. Breakfast was great, good array and fresh and tasty. The main areas need a major overhaul. It could be such an amazing hotel as it’s so pretty and full of character and in an amazing location. The check in desk is laughable, two high small tables with laptops on!! Staff pleasant enough but no atmosphere in the place. Outside areas lovely. Needs a serious injection of money and this hotel could be a gold mine.
