My stay was blissful. Maria on check-in was great, plenty of character there. Spa was great. Rooms well kept, slightly cold (715) but otherwise lovely. Bar staff really nice and welcoming. Restaurant has wonderful food

« Dog Friendly Stay at The Mercure Cardiff »

I wanted to stay at The Mercure to see how dog friendly the Hotel really was. When I arrived, the Receptionist told me the dog cannot go in the public areas. I had phoned to ask about this prior to my stay. I asked her to check with someone and they eventually said I could go in the Bar area. When I went to the Bar, the Bar waitress said my dog wasn’t allowed anywhere in the Bar. The Manager of the Restaurant came and said it was ok. So eventually I had a meal in the Bar with my (small) dog and it was fine. The room was spacious had a Super King size bed, views of Cardiff from two sides of the room. It was on the 11th floor. I also had a Bath and a Shower. Also a free bottle of wine. Altogether a most enjoyable stay. I thought £15 a night for one small dog a bit steep, if you stayed longer, as the room would only need cleaning once.

Room clean, however poor quality toiletries for a four star hotel. Room service contacted three times for a bucket of ice and glasses, never arrived, but I did find them outside a room down the corridor? Tried to contact front desk, repeatedly no reply.

Room was good but let down by inoperative shower. As there were 3 of us staying in the room and unable to shower, this was not good. Also after the weather conditions in Cardiff, where we got soaked, we were unable to shower on our return to the hotel. We were also not informed of the car park charges on booking.

Staff very nice. Hotel room clean but was cold .Spa nice but sadly we had to leave due to the extreme use of chemicals in the jacuzzi .

I tried to book via le accor. Not offered a competitive price to other sites so booked through avios. I had been advised Parking would be Reserved. It was not. Luckily there was a space. The Bathroom was not clean. Only One Bath Towel for two people. No basic toiletries Tea / Coffee. No Coffee. No Biscuits The Bar Staff were so badly trained an impolite. Firstly I asked for the cocktail menu I was told we don’t serve cocktails? I then ordered a premium gin & tonic and magnets cider. The lady promptly poured All the tonic in the drink. I said I didn’t want all the tonic in the drink she replied oh well it’s too late it’s all in the drink!! I asked her to put another gin in the existing drink she proceeded to make another gin & tonic she could not understand what I was asking for. I also ordered bottled magners cider over ice she poured a pint of draft. I did not accept this drink she huffed and puffed then poured the correct drink. We then went out for dinner. On the way out asked for a recommendation. They could not even tell us where there was a decent restaurant. The reception was very busy with a private function and had All the attention of All the staff. Sod the paying hotel guests!! On our return we had another drink in the bar. Another bad experience I ordered a double premium brandy and a double money’s shoulder. The Brandy was not served in a warmed Barney glass and when you are paying £10.00 a shot £20.00 for a double the bar staff should know how to serve it. Not only in the wrong glass and freezing cold the Brandy was cloudy. Clear in the bottle, cloudy in the glass. I asked for this to be changed and she said “why what’s wrong with it” The drink should not have been served it was either a dirty glass or dirty measure!! The double monkeys shoulder was served over ice when I asked for No Ice. She would not change the drink. Whilst sitting in lounge drinking our nightcap it became clear Cocktails are served as several were ordered yet I was told No Cocktails are served? The Bed and pillows were really uncomfortable. Pillows like rocks. Hard bed. I slept on the floor with my coat as a pillow it was more comfortable than the bed. Breakfast. No one on the checkin point. Plates cups glasses everywhere. No fried eggs, hard bacon. No white bread out. Very poor show. Check out. At the bar we were not given a copy of the bill. We only had two rounds of drinks yet Three rounds were on the bill. The reception could not print out the bar tab? We had booked our stay via Avios. Given the worst room possible. We are le accord members but to book through directly was £50.00 more than avios or secret escapes. Surely this is not good for your loyalty program. I expected to be offered the same rate as secret escapes & avios All in all a bad experience. I would not return.

Toilet had been used, had to request it be cleaned. The Fridge didn't have water, the WiFi was problematic, The heating in the room didn't work. Ended up requesting a room move.

Stayed in many hotels internationally for business purposes. Currently residing her weekly. This 4* feels at/above it’s listed level. Laura who checked me in was attentive, professional and accommodating throughout the stay; she deserves to be working at a Four Seasons Resort in the Indian Ocean. Car park was a little tight however during the stay, although spaces were available during a busy period when filming for a Hollywood movie. Mindful if you have a medium sized SUV. Gym is decent - squat rack, bench and cable with DBs going up to 36-38kg.

I've stayed at the Mercure Cardiff a number of times now.Always been a pleasant experience. Room - comfortable and spacious.Although shower door on recent visit wouldn't shut. Dining - quality evening meal & breakfast. Staff - friendly and helpful. My preferred hotel when in Cardiff.

Great room, great view from 6th floor. Good facilities including iron. Car park a little small and £14 for overnight stay but is situated below hotel which is good if weather adverse. Enjoyed our family stay.

Stayed last weekend when filming was taking place. Sent an email on Sunday but no response or acknowledgement! ‘We checked out today and liked the hotel. However we were disappointed that we were not informed about the filming by the hotel. More importantly no mention of any disruption or noise was mentioned during our stay or any apologies for any inconvenience they may cause. During the night we were woken by bangs and noises from outside. We had not anticipated this and only expected it to happen during the day once we were aware. The hotel would have been forewarned and it would have been appreciated for the hotel to have considered the impact of the disruption to the guests rather than just closing the blinds! A note in the rooms or notices in the lifts would have been sufficient rather than total silence. ’

Really loved the room, the view, the bed and the location. Good price for accommodation. Happy also that there is an undercover carpark directly below hotel although thought £14 was a little expensive.
