Both my wife and I stayed at the Mecure Hotel on 28th September. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable. The restaurant food and service was one of the best we've experienced, 10/10. Would definitely return.

« An appalling experience from the moment I tried to dine. »

From the moment I was refused entry to the restaurant, despite being a solo diner/traveller, I began to notice all of the other problems with the hotel. In the evening, I attempted to locate a room service menu in the room. Not finding one, and having searched in every cupboard and every drawer (of which there were few), I called reception, for whom it seemed an imposition to send one up—the phone manner implying that I was not looking hard enough. The room service menu arrived, quite some time later, and I discovered that it is the most sparse room service menu I have ever seen at a Mercure hotel, or indeed any hotel of this rating. Hoping for a meal of any substance, I wandered down to the bar for a drink, before heading to the restaurant. I was informed by the FOH manager that there was no table available. I asked what time I could return. I was told I could not return at all—the restaurant was fully booked until closure. I observed the 50% empty dining room while I was advised I could order from the bar. I had already inspected a bar menu (doubling as the in-room menu), and explained that I was seeking a full meal. I was advised that I could request a restaurant menu from the bar. I returned to the bar and did request such, where I was met with a puzzled look and a level of concern that indicated such a request was never heard before and incapable of being fulfilled. The bartender did however shortly return with a restaurant menu. I went and sat down with a drink and perused the menu. I returned to the bar to place my order, where the very same bartender now interrupted me placing my order to exclaim that he must check whether it is possible. He returned to advise that there would be a wait of 40 minutes or so (without any certainty, so who is to say what timeframe this could actually have led to). I left the bar in disgust. I returned to my room, on the way to which I encountered the reception manager who checked me in. I asked her why she did not advise me at check in to book a table. I asked her where the nearby restaurants are. She advised there is none in the area. There was no proposed solution. I was stuck in your hotel, in the middle of nowhere, with no adequate evening meal facilities. I have never experienced such contemptible behaviour of a hotel in my many years as a guest. You claim to be running a four-star hotel, but I have not experienced evidence of this on this occasion.

We arrived early but helpful staff let us check in as our room was ready. We had breakfast and dinner included and both were lovely meals. Location is quiet with countryside all round and Brandon Nature Reserve a few minutes away. It was good to have an indoor swimming pool available although I was surprised by schoolboys coming into the ladies changing room one afternoon. We had a very relaxing couple of days and would not hesitate to visit again if we were in the area.

The staff at the hotel were incredibly helpful and made the experience of organising such a large event a lot easier. I felt as though I could relax and that everything was well managed. Everything went to plan! my room was large, clean and comfortable. The only criticism would be that as the room was next to the car park, I did get woken up in the early hours of the morning by someone slamming their car doors and turning on their headlights.

Excellent value dinner, bed and breakfast package. Dinner and breakfast were lovely and catered for gluten free we’ll. Lovely massage booked in the spa as an extra, only down side was cost of drinks at the bar:£20 for 2 gin and tonics served in pint glasses because they’d run out of glasses!! I wouldn’t mind paying that for properly served gin but it wasn’t even served with lemon

The experience is ok. I wasn’t excited about the room this time, but it was decent. The coffee was always full and hot and we always had cookies, fruits and pastries. The food the first day in the meeting room was amazing. Me and the whole team were so excited about it. There were sandwiches, croissants, wraps and chips. The best thing in the whole table though was the Greek style salad. We were all so happy to finally see there a big bowl of colourful vegetables with the perfect amount of oil, vinegar etc. My manager, me and the whole room was very pleased with this meal. It was still simple, but the variety really made a difference. The next day the food was below average, I should say bad to be honest. It was just sandwiches that a toddler would have made. Even the coop down the road sells better sandwiches than those. That put me off. With Brandon hotel I never know what to expect. It’s either great or awful. My stomach was hurting from eating all the time bread. Next time I will bring my own food. I can’t keep eating this cheap quality food.

First room couldn’t enter, so swapped rooms to find the main bedroom light bulb doesn’t work. Someone came up to attempt to change it but they couldn’t. Curtain was ripped which I would not expect in any hotel.

I was a bit of an idiot and booked my hotel visit a week later then I needed. I realised this whilst standing at the reception of the hotel but the receptionist was lovely and fixed the whole thing. She got us a room and they quickly set everything up. I had 2 children with me and my youngest is 1. They were very patient with him. The room itself was nice and clean. Had a mini fridge which I needed for the kids snacks. The bathroom had a shower and bath which was lovely. The only problem was that the bed had wheels on and it did role off a couple of times. Breakfast had a nice variety of food and it was good. My hUSB and loved the sauna and steam and the swimming pool was nice and clean with not a lot of people there. Overall an excellent experiance
