Booking in to this hotel was very difficult as receptionist was very hard to understand and she kept taking down wrong details I had to phone 3 times to make sure booking was correct , also they got email wrong and I got it rectified on my arrival so I did not get any cofirmation emails about my booking until I arrived at hotel . I have stayed three times and had a great time but this carry on was very stressful

Good check in. The room was nice but given it was a privilege room it should have had the mini bar stocked. We had to ask for water and we only had one pack of crisps. Also the phone was not working as the batteries were totally corroded. Other wise the room was perfect and the shower room was well appointed.

Reception and Room were good. The bar service at the event we were at was very slow to non existent. The entrance to the hotel access was very difficult to find in the dark, it's very poorly sign posted an had no lighting. The trees/vegetation around the entrance hides it from the western approach, this needs to be remedied!

The hotel room was very comfortable and quiet overlooking the gardens. We usually stay at Ardoe as it a lovely hotel and convenient for visiting relatives in Kincorth area of Aberdeen. This time we found areas of the hotel were understaffed? The bar was left unattended with customers waiting. Also no one to take room number at breakfast, so no tea or coffee until finding a member of staff.

On arrival the foyer and reception area were very cold. The receptionist we first dealt with was not the friendliest but when we went back to check in the other receptionist was friendly and welcoming. Our room was spacious and peaceful. We had an evening meal in the bar but sadly the food was rather disappointing. The starter of chicken wings( not all chicken wings but chicken bits) was ok but underwhelming. My husband's fish was fine but my burger was awful. Bland and rubbery with no flavour. We had sticky toffee pudding for sweet with hot toffee sauce. These were Luke warm with cold toffee sauce. Disappointing as this was a gifted package from a family member. Breakfast was good except for the boiled bacon... We had a late check out for 2pm but was a uncomfotable that the room staff were hovering outside our room from around 12 noon onwards. There were 3 members of staff waiting to get into our room right behind me as soon as I had closed the door. We did like it here but felt there needed to be some improvements. Check out was fine with the same friendly receptionist. I told her about our meal and she said she would mention to the kitchen staff?

I stayed here in Oct 2019. The room we had was a great size, very clean and extremely comfortable. Although our room was quite a distance from the reception area. Breakfast was well catered for and had everything you could think of. My only complaint would be the fact we were charged extra for a cappuccino. Other than that, great stay would definitely recommend

Please see comments above regarding room etc and dinner. On the plus side food quality was very good and the pool area also very good. The room could do with a freshen up and the housekeeping needs to be more careful around cleanliness.

Artoe is in a great location, close to the city but it feels very tranquil. Our check in was efficient. The room seemed like a hike from reception along some long corridors but was well rewarded with a lovely big room with a spacious shower room and a view of the grounds. The room facilities were good and the bed large and very comfortable. The food at dinner was exceptional with service to match - special mention for our server, Rachel. Self service breakfast was nice and relaxed. The spa was good although it did mean tiptoeing outside to get there in our slippers and gowns. Also, we disappointed on both visits that jacuzzi was not working, otherwise a fine spa facility. Overall, a lovely experience.

« Disappointed at my Ardoe experience . »

I stayed with yourselves for two nights. When I arrived and was checked in .. even although I took the lift, the walk to my room (room 135) was a very long way away indeed. The room was nice but there were marks on the wall as you entered as if someone had pulled luggage in and it scrapped the wall. Made it look a bit shabby for Ardoe. The TV channels were very limited and only received a few. The door did not lock as the place to hold the bolt in the frame of the door was offset and wouldn’t lock so I pushed a chair against the door at night as I am a woman travelling alone. I tried to call reception about this but the phone didn’t work so I walked all the way down to reception and informed them and maintenance came the next day. I had appointments that day so arranged for the maintenance man to come at 3pm on the second day of my stay, He said the TV needed tuned in so did that and all was well with that. He then looked at the door and said he would have to remove the plate and set it again. I told him to wait til I had checked out as didn’t have time as had meetings to attend. The maintenance guy was a lovely scottish man with no language barriers and I could understand him and he me. Reception were different. I informed the receptionist that the room didn’t lock and she informed me that there were no locks on the doors and that I was mistaken. She did not understand what I was talking about. I also ate both nights in the bar and the service was awful as was the food as the staff were run off their feet. The second night I had fish and chips and it was cold. Service took forever and the order took a long time to come. Breakfast on both mornings was difficult as I only wanted breakfast for one and had not ore booked or paid breakfast. I was told the room was booked for two as it was a double and that they couldn’t change the number of people having breakfast in their computer system so just to inform the breakfast staff in the morning. Well, the language barrier again affected us both and I needed up going backwards and forward to reception first thing in the morning before I was allocated a table. Awful.. to say the least. I also requested tea bags and milk from housekeeping as did not want my room cleaned during my stay and the language barrier was also impossible and rather frustrating. I overheard a bar staff member telling an American guest to pay tips directly to them as if they are out on a bill the the staff don’t get them. I think that’s awful.

The room was comfortable and dinner in the restaurant was excellent. A map of the hotel might have made it easier for us to find the swimming pool which is in a separate building. The quickest access is via a fire exit but that isn't clearly labelled within the hotel.
