We have stayed several times with the Accor group in particular Sofitel an Mercure. Although we know our stay was not with this company your hotel pales by comparison. This was Virgin Experience for my husband’s 75th birthday cost £200 including Bletchley Park. You asked for £9 extra as the voucher did not cover the full cost?!? The dinner was inadequate at a cost of around £25 for 3 courses without sides which were charged separately. We did not in our opinion receive a meal but rather a tasting menu. The 1st course was a third of a single side of mackerel and the second of sea bass was about a quarter of a single portion. Bread was only provided on request - 2 small slices with olive oil for dipping. Dessert was a a scoop of chocolate ice cream and another slightly different chocolate concoction. Breakfast was a triumph. There was also a raucous celebration going on which meant we could not use elsewhere in the hotel, apart from our room, because of the noise. Fortunately, the party ended early. You have a great deal to do to raise your standards to match your star rating. You also refused to let us stay under our Accor loyalty programme?

There was nothing to indicate the pillows were all feather. As an asthmatic I feel I should have known. The staff were very prompt in sorting this out. I was told at breakfast it was only filter coffee which I detest. I later found out I could have had a latte from the machine. The key card had to be reset a few times. Overall it was a great experience.

Had a lovely welcome from the reception staff. Was very pleased with our room and the facilities. Unfortunately, the wedding party who were there at the time had very little supervision for their children and so hotel guests were caught up with them running round the bar area etc. This was a matter for parenting skills and not a lot that the staff could do about it. However, maybe the bar should be for hotel Guests and with a age limit implemented and the wedding parties should have a separate bar with Jung the function area that they hire. The staff in the restaurant were so lovely and the food was great too.

The room was very nice with good facilities. The 3 course evening meal was good with plenty of choice. The service was adequate although two tables did have issues with main courses getting mixed up. My only criticism was the breakfast. Whilst adequate, it did arrear that the food had been standing for some time. Fried eggs were to order, and whilst ours came quickly the table next to us had to ask a few times before they arrived. With a relatively small restaurant it might be easier to have breakfasts cooked to order, thus alleviating some of the issues we and others experienced.

« Lovely room let down by lack luster staff and food »

Room was gorgeous, staff though seemed once the wedding was over and everyone was checking out like they no longer had to bother now they had the thousands that had been spent by the whole wedding party! The food was ok but not amazing! Honestly we would never stay again because of the disappointment with the staff and the muck up with the rooms! Just not worth it at all!

Ambiance and setting of this hotel is excellent. For us the fine dining menu was a little restrictive so chose to eat elsewhere although the breakfast was very good. Not too happy to see a hoover left on the stairs whilst we were carrying our bags up (this was approx 5.30pm and the cleaner was at the bottom of the stairs). Otherwise first class.

This was a red letter stay, when booking when explained it was a red letter day I could not have some dates even though they were available on the website. The food was really lovely but the room was very small and being in an outbuilding it was a bit strange. The bathroom was very cold and smelt damp.

I have been staying at this hotel since before it became an MGallery. Generally I have no issues but this time round, | was very dissapointed with the service provided in the Seasons restaurant. I ordered food which kept me waiting for an entire hour! I was not asked whether I wanted to order a drink for almost 30 minutes after I sat down. Mt dinner was COLD, and the service was very dissapointing.

Loved the location and the suite we had in the gallery and that my 17 year old was given a room close by. However walls were v thin to her room in the gallery and other guests kept her awake. The heating was set at 30 degrees in her room and was stifling - the air conditioning unit is sited over the bed is unsightly noisy and smelly in that room and the heat in any case seemed to be from a belting radiator on another older system unaffected by changing thermostat in the room. In our suite and hers we were stunned there was no DVD player much more valued than automatic windows and cheaper to rectify. With no babysitting this would have been good. In our suite the shower room smelled damp /mouldy. The bath was lovely but extremely short even for me at 5 ft 3! The sink is unhygienic both as badly cracked and the fitted plug not useable. The blind on the automatic velum window is broken. A physical window opening would be more practical and safer in all rooms case of fire were stairs blocked. There was no manual over ride. No staff were present when we came down to breakfast for quite some time though it was middle of the allotted time. If it had been a travel lodge rather than a premium brand I would have been disappointed but not surprised. Mattresses need replacing but instead have lumpy toppers. My son loved his sofa bed but I would have preferred a firmer mattress and my daughter said hers was v uncomfortable. Given how hot her room was the thick down duvet with nothing lighter available was a problem. In our colder room it was an advantage. Lovely pillows. Fantastic breakfast free parking and location appreciated. Underwhelming staff attitude front of house but cleaning staff /housekeeping did a fantastic job and were polite and friendly.

Our room was very comfortable and the general ambience within the hotel was excellent. The hotel setting was wonderful and upon arriving we had a very warm feeling about the hotel. However, the food served in the restaurant left much to be desired. Main points are: 1. The buffet breakfast food in the hot pans was only warm at best 2. This was compounded by having to place the food selected onto ice cold plates (no plate warmers) 3. In the evening for dinner, we found the menu restrictive and items on each evening of our stay were not available (out of stock) 4. The prices of drinks and wine were very excessive in price. Being a director of a family run restaurant in an affluent town (Billericay, Essex) I can assure you that our customers would not return if we charged such high prices. Further, your bar staocks were also low for a quality hotel. For example, the first bottle of wine that I chose (a house red) was out of staock. After dinner on the first evening, I requested a manhatten but the barman informed me that youi had no Canadian whiskey.
