« Nice hotel, great location, disappointing experience »

Great location near everything that tourists come to Bath to see. Lots of places to eat nearby. Quiet room. Disappointed with cleaning staff- bathroom floor not cleaned all week that we were there, tea tray not restocked unless we asked specifically at front desk for specific items- if asked for tea bags got tea bags, not sugar packets even if needed. Bath toiletries not restocked with all products. Door was left open all day by cleaner when we were out by leaving dead bolt extended before it was closed. We discovered the situation when we returned in the late afternoon and had the front desk personnel come up and see it for themselves. We were then told that that is what the cleaners do when then are cleaning rooms so that they don't get locked out. Checking out experience was dreadful. First it appears that our credit card was charged when we checked in but we were told that only a hold for the amount was being put on our credit card. Then we were charged almost a hundred pounds extra just in case we were to use extra services. Again I thought it was only a hold on the card. When we went to check out we were told the entire amount had been charged on the first day and that it looked like we were due a refund but no one at the front desk (or apparently even in the hotel) could make the refund. We had to catch a bus to the airport so we could not wait around for the right person to come into work. It was 7 am in the morning. So we left not knowing whether we would have a dispute to deal with when we arrived home in the USA. About 4 hours later just before we boarded our airplane we received an email from the hotel showing our final bill and that a refund had been made to our credit card. When we returned to to the USA we checked our credit card statement online and it showed the refund had been posted. So it all worked out in the end but it was a horrible experience that should never have happened. The front desk personnel at a hotel of the class of the Francis should be more empowered and have better tools and technology available to them to meet guest requirements and needs. Very disappointed with that experience.

Second day room not made up when we returned at 5pm. Reception assured us it would be prepared after 7 pm. Returned at 11pm to find room still unmade, bed, towels on floor , no tea, coffee, milk etc.

The staff were very friendly and quite frankly the best part of the whole stay at the Francis Hotel. They had great conversation and great tips on attractions and things to do in the lovely city of Bath. the room itself was more than a tad bit overpriced but still very nice with a very cozy atmosphere. The amenities were very enjoyable and we would stay there again.

Upon arrival we were informed that the twin room we had booked would not be available as there was a tour group arriving who had all requested twin rooms. We were told that only a double room would be available to us and that we could have two duvet covers. When we insisted we had booked a twin room we were asked to show confirmation and then we were informed that a twin room would be available from the second night of our stay. It was disappointing as we felt that the group had been given preference, even though we had specifically booked a twin room and we had received conformation of this. When we didn't agree to taking the double room with two duvets, staff managed to find a twin room. The hotel room we were given was very nice but was not spotless clean. Bird droppings were on the window from the outside. One of the duvet covers had small holes in it. The tiles at the sink in the bathroom hadn't been cleaned as there seemed to be some sort of water stains/spots. During our stay we noticed that hoovers were continually left unattended in the corridors. There was one left in our corridor and when we left our room the following morning, it was still there.

« Staff friendly, hotel room well furnished but very, very noisy. »

The experience was okay. Plus side was friendly staff and a nicely furnished room. Downside was that the room was incredibly noisy - it fronted onto the square with constant traffic noise until the early hours of the morning and the noise of passing drunks. As it was a premium priced room, I did not expect that level of noise. Also, it was annoying that when I had prepaid for breakfast, reception staff twice tried to charge me for it.

Hotel is of an excellent standard in a great local. Nice greeting on arrival. Room fantastic, very clean, excellent facilities. Was our 25th wedding anniversary and room was upgraded and given champagne and chocolates. Breakfast was good, only slight issues, hash browns were soggy due to the steam in the container held in. Would highly recommend staying here.

From the moment we walked in we were treated with a smile and amazing customer service. We went through to the bar and were served promptly and in a friendly and professional manner. Our room was amazing, plenty of room and everything you would need for a nights stay. It was immaculate, nothing out of place and clean to the highest of standards. Breakfast was a wonderful treat, with not only a English breakfast buffet and continental options but with a menu to order from if desired. Service again was wonderful and we were never kept waiting. All in all an amazing place to stay in a wonderful location. Would highly recommend to anyone staying in Bath for a night or more

Staff excellent but room poor. Very small, no storage for underwear, tops, shoes etc. Tiny wardrobe in very dark corner (no light) already filled with ironing board and dressing gowns. No room for my luggage. No luggage rack. No place for shoes. Tiny drawers no good for clothing. Toilet seat very crooked. Thought cleaners would notice and get fixed but NO. I requested a shower rather than bath because of my disability but the shower had no handles or a suitable seat for a disabled person.Safe not working reported twice and unable to fix. No mini bar when I was told it would be there. A magnifying mirror would be useful for doing make up or shaving. I felt as a single traveller I was given a very poor room but paid full price. Staff were friendly and helpful but the accommodation let the whole stay down I had 3 nights in a room that was too small. I have walking difficulties and use a walking aid which was difficult and I stumbled several times. Several members of my family had 3 or 4 rooms and they were much better than mine. I felt like the poor relation. I plan to return to Bath next year and I need to be central as I can't walk far but I would like to know I can expect a better equipped room with all that I am led to expect. I feel this was not "a Comfy Classic" more a pokey box room with very basic fittings. Breakfast was pretty good. I feel sad that since I lost my husband I can only expect a poor room as I am on my own. I have heard this happens but preferred not to believe it.

We had a pleasant stay. Two main grumbles: The dining experience was rather quaint, an agressive floor manager who seemed to think we were 'creeping in' against his rules. Very complicated system of extra charges etc. Our TV never worked properly, it was checked once but obviously there was something wronrg with the remote control and the settings.

All good, check in easy as did this online, really did save time on the day of arrival. Room lovely, location great, breakfast great as chef can cook eggs etc to your liking. Parking at rear great although I do think price high when you pay to stay as guest and paid for upgrade. Would recommend to others.
