My benchmark of worst stay remains Mercure Barcelona Condor … closely followed by this one. It is also a good example of how a single employee can create such an emotional distress to bring you to the point of hospitalisation. I checked in on the evening of Sunday 12th May. I was already in Brussels the previous Friday and handed to the hotel my suits-case (hanging suit bag) . Of course I got a receipt and supposedly they stored it in their luggage room. Upon my check-in I asked for my suits-case and handed over the receipt. The indifferent clerk checked the luggage room and told me relaxed that she can't find it. She even started questioning me if I indeed had given it to them. She pretended to also check in the managers office with no result. I asked her to check again in their luggage room, she did and again said that there was not any luggage of mine corresponding to the receipt I handed her. You can imagine the emotional distress when she told me that it is not her problem … and I had a business meeting on 09:00 on Sunday morning. I asked her to go and check myself their luggage room … and guess what … it was there … instead of hanging … rolled and placed inside a small square self. The incompetent lady of the reception mumbled something like "they moved it … so I couldn't see" …. NO EXCUSE … NO APOLOGIE. After this incident who left me shaking, I checked in the spacious room and went out for a walk. You can reach Grand Place in 20 minutes passing through literally an Arabic ghetto. The people, their dressing, language, music, shops is literally as if you are in Egypt or Tunisia, beautiful countries... but when you are tourist there you don't get that type of looking at you, checking you out like predators. Hotel has a relaxing jacuzzi, sauna and steam bath. Bed had a stiff hard mattress, with no overtop memory foam, therefore sleep comfort was bad. Check-out was super-friendly and efficient. As much as I consider a benchmark of worst employee ever the lady on the check-in on Sunday night, the lady on front-desk on Monday morning 13th was a benchmark of efficiency and friendliness. I hadn't used my voucher for welcome drink, I asked for an orange juice ... and she run to the breakfast room to fetch a freshly squeezed one instead of bottled. Long story short: I will never select it again due to inconsistent service, bad sleep comfort and terrifying neighborhood.

We didn't think there was much room for improvement. The hotel atmosphere was tranquil. The staff were friendly and helpful. The decor was modern and harmonious. Our room was quiet and we slept well in the comfortable bed. Everything worked (internet, safe, bathroom). The best was the breakfast: the hotel claims it is 'generous' and it is - the range and quality of the food available is exceptional: well done!

A perfect stay. Central. Easy access. Very clean and comfortable room. Magnificent breakfast. Unbeaten anywhere. (Stayed in many 4 star establishments but the breakfast here was just magnificent.) thank you. Reception Staff very professional and friendly. Brussels is a stunningly beautiful city. The hub of the EU. Wonderful. We will return.

« Not up to expectations »

The hotel is not worth of it’s rates. The area not attractive, the toilet in family room is too small and separate from the bathroom which is vey very inconvenient. The bar location is not appropriate at all.

« Holding my money far longer than necessary after I left »

Paid full amount for my stay on arrival. On top of that a higher amount was put on hold as a guarantee. The hold on this higher amount (guarantee) should have been released straightaway after leaving the hotel but it wasn't. Had to make long distance call days later to ask for the hold to be released and am still waiting. I know this unacceptable delay is not with my bank since I stayed at another hotel on my way back home and their hold was released in good time. Have also stayed at numerous hotels from the same group across Europe and have never experienced this.

« Put a hold on my credit card for an amount higher than the value of the full stay I paid upfront. Hold not released »

I paid upfront by debit card for my 2 night stay. On top of that the hotel put a hold on my credit card for funds equalling 125% of my full stay I paid in advance. I understand the need of putting funds on hold for guarantee purposes but I would have appreciated being notified the funds on hold were greater than the value of my stay. I only found out later when checking my finances online. The source of my grievance however is that the hotel did not bother releasing the hold in a timely manner. I am not talking about delay due to transaction going trough the banking system., no. I did call the hotel (international rate) 3 days after returning home to be told that they have not initiated the fund release yet but they will will be doing so shortly. I am still waiting but as a precaution I have alerted my bank and forwarded them the evidence the full stay was paid for upfront by debit card.. And needless to say there is nothing warranting the hotel holding any funds. The hotel itself is OK, clean and spacious rooms but it is located in a rundown area. To summarise, I don't feel comfortable at all with 3rd parties messing around with my money so will definitely not be returning here.

« Brief but lovely stay »

Staff were very helpful even before my trip in helping me secure a room with a walk in shower. The hotel was easy to find and lovely and clean. Only reason I don’t give it a 10 is due to lack of food served at the bar as only pizzas were really available. So for someone like me in a wheelchair we had to travel to find food however the bar/reception staff were helpful and friendly and the Leffe Beer was lovely.

« very nice staff especially the blond young lady when I arrived at ca 18:00 on 26th March »

my room 406 was big and nice, but the TV was not working well, I called the reception, the blond young lady came up, tried to solve the problem, then sent up the hotel technician, the TV worked better but there were still flashes on the screen...they were both very nice and polite all way long. The hotel is nice, but the neighborhood was alas less nice.

« Pleasant stay »

Overall pleasant experience. Check in late at night challenging as someone tried to steal my knapsack in foyer. Not the greatest neighbourhood for the hotel unfortunately. But great breakfast and spacious rooms with nice decor. Tv's are a bit challenging to find the English statìons.

room, bar breakfast was good. I liked the spa, keeping it open longer than until 10 pm would be nice though. Disappionting was that “Coffee ...” (I don’t remember the exact wording in the room description) meant a kettle and some instant coffee. From the description I had expected a small Nespresso machine in te room or similar. A plus was, that decaffeinated coffee and herbal tea was available. My kettle wasn’t working at first, it was quickly and easily exchaned by the friendly hotel staff though. The use of a mirror with an included clock which resets itself when power is removed for long enough is a weird choice, small stuff like this sparks doubt if the people choosing the interior ever actually stay in a hotel room.

« Nice hotel. Convenient for Brussels Midi »

The location is convenient, particularly if you arrive in Brussels in the middle of a 24 hour transport strike. The hotel is good - very clean and well maintained. We had a room on the fifth floor and due to the high quality double glazing, it was very quiet. Breakfast buffet good. The hotel is not situated in the best part of the city, but it is easy to walk to the centre and metro and other transport links are close by.

The price was good for the location and the service received on reception was good and without any wait. However, I asked for a bathrobe in my room and was told there aren't any at the hotel. For a luxury hotel with a spa, I was surprised and disappointed by this. Also, in the room there wasn't a mirror anywhere near a plug so it was hard to style my room as a woman. Finally, spa pool and sauna was only open from 10am. I specifically picked the hotel for the spa and was disappointed I couldn't gym and use the spa before work. I ended up using the spa in the evening, only to find half the lockers broken and two people grinding on each other in the spa pool and doing video calls. Very inappropriate so I complained to reception who said they knew about the issue and was about to do something, but by this point my experience had already been ruined. So nice hotel but could significantly improve.
