« Overnight business stay to meet with overseas colleagues. »

The hotel is in a nice setting , the rooms are a little dated and could do with a re-furb. The check in was efficient, the room was ready and clean. The stay was satisfactory but unremarkable except for the cost of the bar snacks. One of my colleagues form the USA ordered some drinks from the bar and some snacks from the bar menu, he ordered "nuts and nibbles" @ £4.00. When the bar tender had poured his drinks he also gave him a small glass (approx. 3 inches tall) with some "Bombay mix" type thing in it. After about 10 minuets we noticed that the snacks had not arrived and inquired at the bar. Apparently the 3 inch glass of Bombay mix was the £4 snack!!!! We decided to have Dinner elsewhere.

« Overall stay was a good experience »

Lots of good points, just a couple of negative points. Room 72 a little bit claustrophobic for a tall person, shower head too low, right next to the lift so lift bell disturbing at all hours, room was too warm with only a very thick quilt, window opened but blind permanently fixed shut, aircon ineffective. Bed was comfortable and the room was very clean, dinner and breakfast was good, staff friendly, use of gym/pool a bonus. Overall very good value for money.

« disappointing »

room was large and spacious with good facilities. Breakfast however was deeply disappointing. I had requested gluten free options for my wife when I booked. There were none of these at breakfast (no pasties no sausages no breakfast cereals). All that was offered was bacon and three slices of gluten free bread delivered from the kitchen

« Lovely hotel but needs updating »

We stayed here for a family wedding. Booked two rooms. They where spotless but our room had a broken off window handle and my son woke up on the Sunday morning with a wet bed from the air conditioning. Did report to the hotel.

The hotel was clean throughout, and our room was spotless. The bed was very comfortable. I would have preferred two chairs as the room was a double and booked for two, but the hotel is not alone in only providing one chair. My other pet complaint about hotel rooms is that the reading light is often connected to other lights making it difficult for my wife to sleep if I am still up. I was very pleased to find this was not the case here and I could use just the one small light. Staff were friendly and helpful, and I would like to make a special mention for Rafael who was the consummate professional throughout breakfast. I was surprised that there was only a menu for room service food in our room. We only found out that this was the same as the bar menu when we went down for breakfast. We still don't know what was on the restaurant menu. As we had been told we would need to book if we wanted to dine in the restaurant, but we didn't know what was on the menu, or indeed, what it would cost, we didn't bother. If the food was as nice as that at breakfast, it would have been very good. The only real downside, and one outside the hotel's control was that on Saturday morning we were woken at 5.40am by a tractor cutting grass on the adjacent golf course. This was very loud even though we didn't have one of the rooms directly looking over the course. Overall we were very pleased with our stay, and will certainly consider Mercure hotels in the future.

Traveling frequently enough to uphold Le Club Accorhotels Platinum status, I am always on the look-out for hotels with a special character, rather than just another concrete building. And I must say that I believe I struck gold, when I picked your hotel. Letchworth Hall is a fantastic place, and as I had my wife with me on this trip, we both enjoyed the tranquility, the fantastic 400-year old premises and generally had a great time whilst staying with you. We enjoyed the welcome drinks in the bar, and had our dinner in your restaurant and were quite satisfied with it. A single area where there's room for improvement is your breakfast buffet: We really missed a selection of coldcuts (slices of ham etc.) and cheeses. One thing that I wonder about: Le Club Accorhotels Gold and Platinum card holders are entitled to a "welcome amenity" according to the programme guide. And whilst this "amenity" is not specified further, I am usually given small gifts or snacks in the room, frequently accompanied by a handwritten welcome note from hotel management. I got nothing in your hotel. And I don't think my room was upgraded either. Despite these small flies in the ointment, rest assured that we will be back in your hotel next time we need accomodation in this part of the UK. The hotel from the outside looks lovely. However, my room needed an update the net curtain was old and torn, the table had a piece of edging missing, not rubber mat in the bathroom. It looked like the interior of the hotel should be updated it was old and tired. The staff were very nice and helpful one saving grace!

« Comfortable but not without its problems »

Comfortable well equipped room only marred by the less than satisfactory air conditioning on a very hot night. Restaurant was good. Very helpful and friendly staff. Use of swimming pool next door very good. However when we arrived our booking which we had done on line, paid for and printed the receipt was nowhere to be found on their system. A very helpful man on reception eventually sorted it out after a worrying 20 mins or so by contacting HQ who could see the booking on the system. Apparently a "glitch" at the moment we booked prevented it from being transferred to the hotel itself who were fully booked that night. I gather he had to release another booking which had only been reserved but not paid for in order to accommodate us. The member of staff was polite, patient and calm when faced with a difficult situation. We done to him.

Have visited several times but felt a couple of issues let our stay down. The food wasnt as nice as previous visit our room needs some updating toilet lid on floor on our arrival window handles are falling off need work towels are alot smaller than before.

We enjoyed our 5 nights at Letchworth Hall but minor problems which were reported the first morning were not put right. Slow drainage from the shower meant paddling in soapy water! Also the cistern leaked into the toilet bowl continuously. Some upgradings of the facilities are in order.

« Not what I expected »

I checked in at about 11pm and straight to my room. The window was opened as wide as possible and and the room was a little hot. I shut the window as did want insects coming in and any noise early in the morning. Then discovered the radiator was red hot, with no valve/thermostat so could not turn off. Guessed the heating would turn off , especially as it had been a warm evening. Unfortunately the radiator did not go off and I had to sleep with the window wide open, even so it was unbareably hot despite sleeping on top of the covers . Did trying calling reception at midnight but no answer and likewise tried calling the main switchboard. What was really disappointing apart from not being able to sleep very well was that staff must have been aware of the radiator not having a thermostat as they had left the window and curtains wide open

Arrived early prior to a wedding, we did not expect our room to be ready which it was not, but reception allowed us to change and drop our bags in a room that had not been serviced yet, which was great. It was when we arrived back at 1am that our room had been given to someone else and bag was behind reception. They struggled to find us a room. The first one smelt of smoke so we declined and was eventually placed in another double room, not the kind we booked. We left hangers in the original room and are unsure how the bales up happened. Half price was offered on check out, but the confusions should not have happened.
