« Lovely hotel but staff cold and distant and lots of dirty sheets in corridors and hallways leading up to the rooms. »

Check in was ok but trainee staff was a bit cold and distant in assisting us. I booked the room on the same day through Accor website and on checking in, was not aware that my online payment hadn’t gone through so was surprised when asked for the payment as I assumed everything was sorted when I received the email confirmation of a successful booking. No explanation was given other than asking for a payment quite abruptly. We walked up the staircase and every floor level had a big mountain of sheets in one of the corners. In plain sight. Was quite unsightly and gave the impression of the hotel not being organised or clean. Most hotels have a basket or trolley to hide these and not have them on the floor. None of the staff we walked pass or came across said as much as a hello where in most hotels, you would at least get a smile to feel welcome. The room was as expected (we could only book the city room and did not realise how cramped it would be) space not the issue but surfaces above the bed was dusty and window sill had empty beer bottle caps from previous guests. On check out, it was quick and easy key drop off. Having said “Thank you” to the man standing behind the desk, we were ignored.

This is one of our larger Standard King rooms. In the almost 9 years of having been open we have not before received feedback about anyone finding this room to be tiny. However, I do respect and appreciate that different people have different expectations and therefore what is considered to be small to one person will not be to another. I again respect your own thoughts on this room. We have a range of room grades at Mercure Nottingham with our Privilege rooms and Suites being the larger room grades. These may possibly be more ideal for a future stay should you wish to stay with us again. You are also more than welcome to view these rooms in advance should you be in the city so you can make a more informed decision prior to booking. The noise from the street all through the night was unbearable. I'd paid extra for a better room and am not sure if all the rooms are street facing, but being on the second floor and having people shouting from the street below all through the night was horrible. there should be some kind of warning about street noise

The vast majority of our guests choose to stay with us because of our location location and due to us having all of this upon our doorstep. I had been upgraded but the room I had been upgraded to was a disabled room, that’s was really what I expected, when I spoke to reception they kindly changed my room for another king room which I had paid for but this was slightly smaller. Then the bed was made of two single mattress out together with a divide down the middle which was very uncomfortable so I didn’t have the best nights sleep.

This was an upgrade as you mention to one of our Privilege rooms. This was the only upgrade available and of course if it was not liked for whatever reason we are happy to either move to an alternative upgrade room or downgrade to the room originally booked. As we were fully booked on all other rooms of the upgraded category it was the downgrade which was given. This was to the room category you had booked. Naturally the room would be smaller due to this being a lower room category. Most rooms in hotels are now made using 'zip and link beds'. This enables hotels to be able to handle a range of requests from guests where either two single beds are required or one double. I am very sorry to hear you were able to feel the seem in the middle of the bed and apologize for an uncomfortable night. I will speak with the housekeeping team to ensure they inspect the mattress topper which should prevent the seem being felt. I thank you for bringing this to my attention. Rooms very nice. Staff very nice. Hotle was extremely noisey with loud banging and extremely noisey floorboards! I could here every footstep/loud creaking and lound banging for hours from upstairs from 6a.m onwards by the hotel staff

This is the first feedback we have had since opening about a guest not liking room 303 due to a slope in the room. Where we do admit ( being a hotel built in 1822 ) our floors are not completely flat we do not believe that any room is sloped to a point where the stay will negatively and I believe this to be true due to this being the first complaint I have had about room 303. Naturally I am very sorry that it seems to have impacted negatively on your own experience. Where we are always delighted to look at relocating guests to alternative rooms I am very sorry that on this occasion we were unable to do so due to being fully booked and fully checked in. « Compact but Bijou »

First time at this hotel and very pleased with the central location. Lovely area with great bars, shops and cafes all around. Smooth and friendly check-in, and clean, well-appointed room, if rather small. But as I was only in the room for a few hours to sleep, that didn't bother me. Ensuite bathroom was super clean but the cistern was faulty and water was running through it constantly after flushing. Luckily I've seen this before and took the cistern lid off to free the flush mechanism. Other than that, perfect place to stay. Thanks.

Very good hotel, nicely situated, we were at the theatre Saturday night, 10 minute walk. Room and bathroom were clean & tidy. Large bed. Breakfast in the morning was excellent, lots of choice. Had a good cooked breakfast, so much better than a continental breakfast offered in a lot of your hotels, especially London. Plenty of space. All staff very freindly and helpful.

« Probably would try somewhere else if were ever to return to Nottingham. »

After we arrived at our room we were greeted by a faint urine smell in bathroom then a fire alarm went off for a few seconds. A false alarm we thought then to be woken up at 2am with it going off again for a few seconds. Again false alarm however we discovered this affected the hot water as in there was none the following morning. There we also earplugs on the side table - a worrying sign but we didn't end up using them. Shower base didn't drain effectively. TV: low quality and smallish Staff seemed especially busy. The room wasn't ready for check in time When I got to the room I called to cmplain that there was a unreasonably loud fan from the business next door directly outside the window. I was offered a room two floors higher that I was told would still have the noise, or alternatively a downgraded room. I asked if the fan would be on all night, and more importantly in the morning. The reply was that the buiness next door closed around 11 and didn't open until the next day at 3pm. The fan did stop around 10pm, but started again really early in the morning (c.5am). This noise was clearly anticipated and the pair of earplugs provided did little to stop the noise. That said, it was just about drowned out by the air conditioning unit which must be due a service! There was no conditioner in the room for my morning shower. And as a Gold member I was offered a complimentary drink. This is something that I've received since 2014 as a regulr guest at the Novotel in Brentford where I have always felt valued and welcome when presenting it at the bar. At the Mercure in Nottingham I selected a glass of Pinot Noir, only to be told that the vouhcer wasn't for 'premium' drinks and only for the house wine. I'd like to think that the intention wasn't to inform me that I wasn't a premium customer, but what it did do was tell me that the Mercure in Nottingham wasn't a premium hotel.

Dear Francis, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Nottingham City Centre George Hotel. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. I am very sorry to hear you did not like the upgraded room that was allocated to you. I can see you were upgraded from the smallest of our room grades, that being a City Pad. On the day of your arrival we only had our inner-well rooms available and due to your Le Club level provided this upgrade. All rooms in the hotel come with ear plugs due to our city centre location, the ear plugs are not exclusive to our inner-well bedrooms. I am very sorry we were unable to offer alternative upgrade rooms to you and our receptionist did indeed do the right thing by offering the City Pad room you had originally booked should you have proffered this option. I do apologize for the housekeeping team not having placed the conditioner within your room and will raise this with the housekeeping manager to ensure the team do not do this again. I am currently looking at wines which will be included with the complimentary drinks voucher. We have a very large range of wines which can be used using the drinks voucher and I am sorry for any disappointment caused. We only have 3 bottles of wine we do not include on the complimentary voucher which once they are out of stock will not be replaced, thus meaning all wines we will have in stock will be available using the drinks voucher. I thank for bringing to my attention the issue with the TV channels. We do check weekly the channels remain in order and have not become jumbled for any reason. I apologize that they seem to have gone into an incorrect order prior to our weekly checking of this.
