« Awful smell, charged incorrect amount, sent an email, didn't hear back »

The first room smelled rotten. Asked for another room, the hotel staff was helpful, but the room was only marginally better. Very bad smell, old and oddly working air conditioning. Got charged for an extra night, sent an email, haven't heard back yet.

I was disappointed with my stay for a number of reasons. The first reason was the state of the hotel; the second reason was the attitude of the staff. First, the state of the hotel. Shortcomings were the following: (a) the wifi on the 6th floor was not working, (b) the wifi is public, allowing everyone to connect (also people not staying at the hotel), which is NOT a secure service to your clients, (c) the window could not be opened, causing the air in the room to get very stuffy and quite warm, (d) the air conditioning did not have a sensitive temperature regulation, causing the air to be icy cold, (e) water from the faucet was either hot or luke warm, I could not get cold water, (f) there was a cloud of dust and a collection of rubbish from previous guests under the bed. I raised the first shortcomings with your staff on the evening of my arrival. The way the staff dealt with my complaints was unprofessional and unkind. I shall elaborate here. On May 30th 2019, around 23h00, I came down to raise my issues with the wifi. The attending supervisor, a young gentleman, responded skeptically saying that no one ever has issues. At the same time, another client from the 6th floor confirmed that he also had trouble with the wifi - so the supervisor's skeptical attitude was unjustified - and rather impolite. I then asked if I could be transferred to a floor where the wifi was working properly so I could do some urgent work; he replied the hotel was fully booked but he'd pass on my request to the general manager the next morning, so I could be transferred the next day. In the meantime, a junior staff member jokingly said I was welcome to sleep on the couch in the lobby, where the wifi was working. Her sarcasm was unwarranted. The next day, the general manager had received no message, so the attending supervisor from the night before had not done what he said he would. The general manager then did not take my complaint about the wifi seriously at all: when I explained that I had done a proper connection test on my laptop, literally grabbed my cell phone out of my hands and tried navigating to the settings (supposedly to check if my cell phone settings were the cause for not getting a proper wifi connection, which clearly was NOT the case), only to then say she did not really know how Android phones work. I found this behavior appalling, not only because she clearly did not take my complaint seriously and tried to place the blame on me, but also because she browsed through my phone without asking, with access to intimate information just a few button taps away. Finally, she also claimed no one ever complained about the wifi before - although, again, another client the night before had raised the same issue. Clearly there was a fault in the routers of the sixth floor, but the general manager did not seem to intend to do something about this and indeed, the problem was not resolved during the duration of my stay. Moreover, that morning I woke up with an agonizing pain in the throat due to the aggressive air conditioning (the only way to cool down in a room of which the window could not be opened). The manager seemed indifferent to this and although she offered to transfer me to a different room, she simply stated that no window could be opened there either. It just so happens that I stayed in a better-equipped and friendlier-staffed hotel in the same price range in the same area just a few days prior, and therefore I would not recommend the Mercure Hotel South Kensington. Both the state of the hotel and the attitude of the staff are important reasons for this.

The room was ok. Notably, the air conditioner and ventilation worked poorly leaving me sweating after showering. Not good since I was there for business. Additionally, my colleagues had a refrigerator and cold beverages in their room while I did not. The breakfast was adequate and exactly the same every day.

The room was fine except it didn’t have a fridge. It happened to be a very hot weekend and while the fan was working it didn’t cool room down. So drinks were lukewarm and room not too comfortable. Reception fine. Elisa charming!

All went well as expected, Thank you very much for the room Upgrade, however the handy in the room was not working, could not be charged, received no help from front desk (except being told to just charge it and the person who was supposed to come up and give it a look ended up not coming and having the front desk call me to repeat that).This would have been useful as my mobile was dying and I had forgotten my charger.

This is a feedback from silver status customer. I stayed before in the hotel and I knew it was old and not renovated to the standard Accor 4stars hotel. But this time unfortunately I faced two additional issues. First I was given an occupied room when I arrived by the midnight and a person standing in a shower in that room was definitely not happy to see me. But ok I took a long ride back to the reception where I was given another room. Unfortunately, I faced a big puddle on the floor from the conditioner still leaking. I did not want to return to the reception being tired and stayed in the room. Next day the problem was solved after my complains but with no compensation which you normally expect in this situation. The hotel treated this as everyday situation. A big difference between Airbnb and Accor style hotel is dependability. If it is not there why do I need to pay more. I could not find the answer for this question this time. By the way this stay should be 29 and 30th night this year in Accor and I’ll become a gold member, wondering if it makes any difference.

The staff were very friendly especially Elisa who always welcomed me with a greeting and smile when I came passed the reception and was happy to help with any queries I had. Only issue was the adjoining rooms doors slamming at all times of the night and people came and went. This kept waking me up. I guess there is probably not much that can be done about that though.

The staff were extremely friendly and professional and helpful. The location is very central. However the rooms are unrealistically tiny. I couldn’t even walk round the bed without turning sideways. This was not clear from the hotel description.

« Best Mercure staff I have ever experienced »

I arrived fairly late after booking an hour or two earlier. I managed to leave my wallet in the office as well. No matter, I was checked in, was able to order some food for when I returned from the office. The room was small (not unusual in London), but very comfortable. My only criticism would be that that TV was a bit old and there was no on-screen guide available!! It was by far the best Mercure stay I’ve experienced in the U.K.

Check-in was fine, room was fine, check-out was fine. I have a slight quibble in that the fitted carpeting in the room - 506 - was slightly loose - it needs stretching and pinning otherwise someone might trip......

« Good Accommodation in Good Location »

Overall a satisfactory stay at the hotel. The reception staff could be a little more enthusiastic when greeting guests, particularly returning guests. The hotel is now dated with a slow, small lift and some old room furniture (TV, fridge). The bed however was comfortable and the bathroom was a good size. Location is a real asset.

A very welcoming staff as we checked in and very helpful. Good clean room with comfortable bed. Very good location near to public transport and walking distance to many museums etc. nice breakfast.
