This place is in a terrible state. We arrived late so it was too late to change hotels . We couldn’t believe how tatty and dirty the place was and said to each other , this is two stars at a push, I actually dropped that down to one the next day. I only booked cos I trusted it was a mercure hotel so assumed it wouldn’t be of a decent standard , so I will not be trusting mercure again. I ask for a partial refund the next day the lady in reception said that she could only give me £20 back as the manager was not there and only he could authorise more and he would contact me the next day and he did not . I can’t belive mercure is associated with such a place and I will be making a formal complaint

Very impressed overall 3rd time of staying here the hotel & spa are good value for the money. My only reason for 99% was every time our room was serviced they only left one bath & one hand towel, which was rectified by reception staff.

I booked this trip and several more stays here back in May, when Accor were running a 30% off and free breakfast promotion, if you pre-paid. I then get told at reception that I'm booked on 'room only' terms and had to waste half an hour giving her all the booking reference numbers and then cart my laptop to the desk to show the original email offer. Eventually the management sorted it out and the following week they upgraded me to a bigger, better room with posh coffee machine, slippers, robe, etc. , which I thought was a nice touch.

« Shocking. Ruined the start of our holiday »

We booked to stay the night prior to departing from manchester on holiday. We arrived and were checked into an extremely small room classed as "double" but was only set up for 1 person so had to first go to reception to ask for more towels/coffee etc. The bathroom was filthy and the bath had what looked like lumps of cement filler skimmed onto it. Our plan was to arrive at the hotel, get showered then go our for some dinner so we didn't go around the room "checking" everything as that's not something a guest should have to do. I wish we had!! The main light didn't work in the room and when I reported this to reception and the receptionist came up a few hours later to check he said that he would need to get a ladder to dismantle the setting and change the bulb so could we "make do" with the little bedside lights instead. We agreed as didn't want to cause hassle. When we got back later that night and went to bed my partner couldn't sleep due to the noise as we were right over the pool area and when he tried to close the massive window he found that the actual handle off the window wasn't there and the window had been pushed out and wedged out and there was no way of even bringing it closed. I work in Business Travel for CWT and had booked a CWT rate. I genuinely am shocked by this treatment. If this is how you treat somebody who books people into your hotels for a living then I dread to think how general customers get treated. I will not be recommending your hotel and will be talking to our Accor rep and letting them know about my expericence as it's really put me off and shocked me.

Nice location and the hotel is adequate. The room we had was clean but the bathroom was tired and need some tlc. The exterior of the hotels and especially the windows need urgent attention. It is a poor relation of the Mercure group. Reception and the bar area are very nice.

Room would have benefitted hugely from aircon. Both mornings (Saturday and Sunday), there was activity in the back yard right under my window by 6.30am. With the window open, it was impossible to get back to sleep.

Prior to booking I tried to contact the hotel by phone several times over 2 days using the phone number on the website, nobody ever answered. The hotel room was not of the standard I was expecting. The bath side panel was loose and coming away from the bath. The window was broken and was being held open with a rolled up magazine. The breakfast was first class, the waiting staff were friendly and very attentive.

Needed a bed for the night. Room was ok, but on the small side, as was the bed. The room faced the road so was noisy, and the windows were not double glazed. But there was technically nothing wrong with the room, just that I have slept in better for the price.

The hotel is in need of refresh in many of the communal areas back of house. Cleaners fail to provide second of towels on our second night we have to go and collect ourself because reception won’t bring them to your room when you are not there. Of four bed side lights only one is working. Table lamp not working.bathroom main light not working Dinner was slow to turn up and average when you got it

All Staff were amazing (especially Martin at breakfast) Breakfast was gorgeous, room was clean and comfortable but the hotel on a whole is definitely ready for a refurb, carpets are worn, windows are ready for replacing, Mercure are normally far superior than the budget hotel Ibis but I have stayed in more modern up to date Ibis hotels than this Mercure one, unfortunately I was disappointed this time as normally I stay in the Mercure/ Novotels for a little added luxury and where this was not the case this time!

We love staying here but cannot help but think that the service side of the business has gone downhill. There was a problem at check-in; we were given a card & key with another person's name on it but our correct room. The staff member at the bar didn't come across as friendly or happy. "Oh, you are here for your free drink!" Actually we were staying three nights & had paid quite a bit for our "free drink." The room was hot & noisy (when you opened the window.) Staff were nearby smoking and chatting. Staff need to smile & engage with their guests more.

Poor welcome. Receptionist unfriendly and didn’t welcome us as guests. I got the impression she was tired and couldn’t be bothered. Room was very clean but no sofa ( which we had expected from website as booked an executive double ).
