« A medieval hotel »

The hotel was made from a medieval small castle. The style was perfect, the filling like few hundred years earlier. The room was nice, the hotel was absolutely quiet, what is very important form myself. There were lot of free parkplaces. The services was good, but sometimes we had to look for the staff.

over 45 minutes to be seated for our evening meal when we had reserved our table at 8.30.Then to be sat in the middle of the room with the cold air blowing onto myself and my wife as others sat in bodywarmers with hands over candles. We asked to be moved to another table, hours on we was told it was reserved and never was while we sat cold. Given one glass of water the whole night and not even asked for a top up. Eventually after waiting to be seated 45 later and waiting 20 minutes to be served we was asked for our order to give our starter and main course to him to walk of and then come back say there are not starters??? really ??? Then no choice of main course so ordered another option. while we waited and waited then it arrived, I asked the waiter what about the sauce that goes with the steak he went away 14 minutes later the Chef told him he has no ingredients to make it ??? a Chef ?? seriously ??? I ate my meal with no sauce ! As for the desert that was fine and Luke warm but ok and not to long. The lady apologised for a terrible service. We made our way into the lounge for a drink, no barman with other people helping them selves to drink to find the young man that tried to help was security, grounds man, waiter, barman, helping with every other thing that needed doing there and working 14 hours absolutely shocking!!! All the staff where at a wedding which left no staff to support the main house. This was a present from my Mother In-law who believes we had a lovely time?? to which we didn't!!!!! Now breakfast all the wedding guests where eating to in the main house so it was extremely busy,, so we was seated in a room in the corner on a single table with no light! Food wasn't even adequate and cold. Bacon cold, hash brown cold, beans Luke warm. I gave it a 5 and really that is more than I should. The bed was to singles with a mattress thrown on top meaning the centre was raised and moved apart. A weekend we looked forward to for 3 months as we haven't been away in 9 years and my Military life has me moving about. The whole weekend was ruined and good money spent wasted. I expect a reply and not one that say just sorry! Fuel, travel time, the cost of the present, babysitter and most of all our time looking for somewhere to go... I look forward to you reply!

OK hotel overnight for a friend's wedding. Staff all pleasant enough. Gardens well maintained. Food ok. Generally clean, but just everywhere communal looked a bit tired e.g. stained seats, worn carpets, scuffed paint work, etc.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was comfortable but needed a deep cleaning there were stains on the carpet the handle was missing from the chest of drawers. The bathroom , was spacious but the the was black mould around the shower door and as the water went into the window sill , the ledge was mouldy and starting to rot. There was only one double socket in the room but only one of the plugs worked. Considering most people have electronic devices that need charging this was very inconvenient

Loved the ambience and location of the hotel. Was unsure about the spiral staircase but we managed and it wasn't such a big issue. The room is a bit dated but comfortable. Breakfasts are fantastic. Staff are excellent. Would like to thank Joe on reception for being so friendly and helpful.

All the staff we interacted with from our arrival were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The hotel is housed in a delightful old Manor house, but its age caused a few accessibility issues because of our disabilities. The restricted mobility room was clean and comfortable, and one of the most suitable we have stayed in, but its location via outside uneven paths was not ideal. The 3 high stone steps without a handrail to access the breakfast buffet was challenging, thankfully on our 2nd/last day one of the waitresses offered to fetch our breakfast for us. The Lakeside (Fishpond) Bar was comfortable and welcoming, and the background music not too loud, with a reasonable selection of drinks. Just a few reservations, the restaurant was not open when advertised on the 1st night because "the chel could not be located" so we went out to eat. On the 2nd night we were able to make a reservation, but when we arrived were told the were no starters available from the menu as "the starters chef has not turned up". The Main course was excellent despite one vegetable specified on the menu not making it to the plate (this was brought to the waiter's attention, but no explanation received). We chose to share a cheeseboard, but after waiting over 1/2 an hour we got up and left. The buffet breakfast was good but not special. As well as some attention needed to even up the outside paths, the main driveway is very narrow and potholed and in need of much improvement, it does not give a good 1st impression. Overall it's good points outweigh the issues so we will return again when next in the area where there is so much to see/do, and its very handy for Shrewsbury.

Good 2 nights comfortable bed. Room could be cleaner, bad smell from bathroom and bath took 30mins to drain. Great breakfast ladies who did breakfast were very polite and welcoming.

I attended my Son's wedding at the venue. All staff very friendly, but not enough for the event. Only one person on the bar in the function building for the evening reception. The room was very clean and our beds were made each morning. Clean linen too. The food was delicious and time between courses perfect. Lovely stay. I would definitely stay again. Thank you.

We spent two nights with you. We found your staff, to a person, helpful and willing to please. But we were a bit disappointed with the room. Although it had everything, it was very small. The bed was only a standard double and we haven't ever had one of those in an Accor hotel in all the years we have been members. The room was more suitable for a single guest. As we are long standing members, and were staying for two nights we were expecting better. We realise that the second night was full because of a wedding so we couldn't be upgraded, but we must have been in one of the very smallest rooms. The breakfasts were excellant and the staff a delight, especially Lesley. The one evening meal we had was very good. but the chef is very slow producing the food.

I arrived at the hotel for one nights stay at 8pm on a Friday night and was looking forward to something to eat after a 3 hour drive from London. The hotel policy states food is available in the hotel restaurant until 9:30pm and served in the bar area until 9:00pm. There is also a room service menu serving food until 9:00pm with selected items available 24 hours a day. At 8:25pm I walked into the bar to order some food, only to be told that they were no longer serving food. I spoke to the guy on reception and asked about the restaurant or room service but he told me the kitchen had closed and he didn’t know why! I mentioned that the hotel policy states food is served until 9:30pm with some room service items available 24 hours a day. He told me once again, the kitchen is closed but this time told me I would have to go out! Then he asked me if I knew how to order from Just Eat! No apology, no explanation and certainly no mention of any 24 hour room service. He didn’t do anything to help at all. I had no option but to get back in the car and drive out of the hotel to find something, at this point it was still only 8:30pm. I would avoid this place if you’re looking for something to eat in the evening, I won’t be staying here again based on this experience. Very poor customer service.

Whilst our initial experience was good (we were early to check-in and the front desk staff offered to put our bags in the room), we felt that the hotel was let down by some members of staff, the room and the breakfast and the cleanliness. When we came back late from a wedding, there was no one on the front desk. I had to go into the kitchen to find the front desk staff. There is no portable phone for the front desk staff when they are away from their post. The front desk staff unsure where our room was despite finding our booking. The shower in the room in the gatehouse has one temperature setting of scaldingly hot with no variation and the water pressure is at best, inadequate. The room was very dated and hardly in a clean state. The stairwell of the gatehouse appears to double as a storage cupboard, with a plethora of boxes and cleaning materials. When we went to breakfast the staff member stationed at the podium told us that breakfast had already finished, even though the member of staff on the front desk had told us that it was still open for another hour. After some confusion, we were seated. The hot food items on the breakfast buffet appeared to have been sitting under hot lamps for a considerable amount of time due to a lack of guests. The room in which the breakfast buffet is in need of refurbishment. The breakfast room had a radio that was playing local commercial radio rather loudly, which wasn't in keeping with the style and ambiance of the hotel. When we left the breakfast room there were two members of staff at the podium, one was sitting on the bench next to it and the other casually leaning against a wall. In all, we were disappointed. The hotel has the appearance of being grand, but the dated decor and lackluster service really let it down. The hotel seemed to be very quiet too. You would have thought that over one of the peak wedding weekends of the season that the hotel would be full and have weddings being held. What is the hotel management and AccorHotels doing to attract the valuable business that weddings bring in?

Treated like we didn't matter as a coach party of 54 were the restaurant staffs only concern. Booked, on Saturday with Atlanta, evening meals for Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was for 7.45 and we wern't able to be fed till 8.30. But, for Sunday, we had a 6.45 booking written on a piece of paper by Atlanta, and told by a young waiter we couldn't eat then as 54 people on a coach tour had to be seeved first. On going to complain at Reception they did nothing but told another couple that our booking wasn't on the computer. It was exactly two hours later that our first couse arrived. On the Saturday the same couple had a booking later than ours but were seated by your staff before us. I had booked this as a birthday treat for my partner and it turned out not to be so.
