We arrived here following a very unsatisfactory stay for two nihts at the Mercure in Nottingham Sherwood Hotel, to find a very modern hotel with excellent bedroom and facilities, within a close distance of Chester centre. The staff were very welcoming and helpful having ensured we had a room with a hand shower as my partner having had an eye operation, required to keep her head and eye dry. The breakfast was substantial, but regret we did not partake of the evening meal as we had a large lunch in transit from Nottingham to Chester, but the menu looked a very appertising choice. All in all a very satisfactory move to the Chester Mercure, which made our final destination very easily reached near Ruthin.

« Good for families, handy for Chester City and Zoo »

Booked two rooms, one for ourselves and one for son and granddaughter. Clean and comfortable accommodation with limited storage space. We all enjoyed the swimming pool on the days we stayed at the hotel. There is a park and ride within easy walking distance and it’s a 15 minute drive to Chester Zoo. Breakfasts were good with plenty of choice. We ate in The Brasserie which had an adequate menu. All staff were very pleasant and helpful although they seemed rushed off their feet in The Brasserie.

Our stay was great for the price. However the dinner did take a while to come out and was also overcooked. Also the spa facilities do need to be updated as they were in a bad state and it didn't feel clean or comfortable. We did enjoy our stay and the rooms were very clean. The price we paid was amazing for what we got and the staff were helpful and friendly.

If we hadn’t had an evening meal at your restaurant I’d have put enjoyable as the title. The room was nice, clean, tidy. Room service good. Very friendly at the pool. As for the restaurant, well where did I start. I have never been to restaurant and had such service that we got from you. It started off ok, our order was taken. The starter was fine. When the wine arrived it was plonked on the table, not offered to taste it nor any of it poured out for us. The main course was, over cooked chicken, the pork chop was like cardboard. We then had to wait and wait and eventually I had to go and find someone for service. She came to take 2 plates away, disappeared, then went to another table to clear their plates and never came back to clear the rest of ours. Eventually a man cleared the rest. One of our guests had pre-ordered a sweet, it never came. We were then asked if we wanted the bill!!! That was before our guest had had her sweet and we hadn’t even been offered the sweet menu. We waited an age for the sweet to turn up, we gave up at that point, if we’d have ordered a sweet I think we’d have been there until midnight. For the rest of our stay we went to the local pub and got excellent service. Just think of the lost income. I know from speaking to other guests they weren’t impressed either. Having said all that the morning staff at breakfast were fine.

Although the hotel has a little wear and tear in places, it certainly would not stop us from returning for another visit. All of the staff were wonderful, polite and helpful beyond what we have experienced at other hotels. They really made our stay a wonderful one, thank you.

« Nice rooms, friendly staff but terrible food and service »

Stayed for one night on business and found the room clean and comfortable, the staff very friendly and helpful but the food I had in the bar was terrible and waited a very long time for it to arrive. I ordered a pizza and when it came it was like cardboard. I received an email from the manager stating that he hoped I had a pleasant stay so replied outlining my observations about the food and how I was still charged after raising it with staff - no reply back from the hotel. Such a shame as it would have been a very nice stay otherwise.

« Staff were great but food was very disappointing »

Staff were very friendly, spa area requires a detailed clean. Room was clean but basic maintenance needs more attention. Bathroom floors need re-grouting, blocked drain that smelled outside needs sorting and was not impressed with the food, fried oven chips and using old oil for this leaves a bad taste on the food. Breakfast was ok and had choice. The staff make this hotel a 7/10, cuts on basic upkeep will cause this lovely place to loose marks and it takes away from the staffs hard work

Appalling. The gentleman on the front of house who took my booking 2 days prior to my stay at your hotel had booked me and my family in incorrectly and was quite rude about the situation. Only to be told by the young lady working alongside the gentleman told us he was in fact in the wrong. He booked me a double room when a family room was required but he continued to argue the point even after i showed him my email confirmation. I doubt i'll be using your hotel in the future.

Poor customer service, lack of communication between the restaurant, Reception and bar area. Given no information on check in. Priority was given to the 'couple' (according to Reception) of rugby teams staying at the hotel. Turned out it was actually 10 teams over the days we stayed. Once the main foyer and bar area the decor was old and dated and in dire need of modernisation.

Our room was spacious and the bed comfortable. Lovely to have an opening window. Wifi was good. Room was clean. Pleasant bar area and good breakfast. However the carpet in our room had an unpleasant stain. It needed removing or the carpet replacing.

« Well looked after, comfortable stay. »

We were very well looked after by all the staff in the hotel - excellent service. The food was generally good, though it would have been nice to have more choice for the evening meal over a three night stay. It was strange that there was no marmalade at breakfast - but otherwise there was a good choice at breakfast. The swimming pool, sauna and steam room were very nice but the changing rooms were very poor. I went back to the room to shower as the showers were inadequate and need replacing. Our room was good with everything we needed except for very little storage space for clothes, especially for a three night stay. Overall, however, we enjoyed our stay, the service was excellent and it was very conveniently positioned with the park and ride into Chester only a couple of minutes walk away.

I was late arriving the staff was pleasant and accomodating. Stayed in room 244 which was cold. I failed to open the cold water tap and was not the best shower I'ved had. Called room service for a sandwich which the bread was stale. So thats the negative points. The breakfast was really good. and breakfast staff excellent. Did not use the leasure facillities. Would I stay here again - yes at a push.... due to a good bar and excellent breakfast
