« Great location and service »

Everything went well. We loved the views from the conservatory. All the staff were very helpful. Our room (56) was excellent but the balcony had not been cleaned and there was a full ashtray on the floor. Overall we were very happy with our two night stay.

« A comfortable room although the plumbing and shower are antiquated »

A stop over on the way home from a ferry to Portsmouth. The room was fine but the plumbing is out of date In particular, the shower is over a bath but there is no grab handle to help older people when clambering in or out. Dinner in the restaurant was high quality. I would have expected properly prepared coffee at breakfast rather than rather poor quality from a machine.

The room was a bit dated, the bed wasn't very comfortable and didn't have a plug socket near the bed for phone charging. Also the bathroom doorknob fell off. For these reasons unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations for a 4 star hotel and for the cost I would expect higher quality facilities.

« Not up to the usual standards of Mercure hotels. »

The hotel had low occupancy but for some reason we were placed in The Mews (quite a walk away from the main hotel) which looked decidedly neglected on the exterior and was in dire need of an up-grade. The inside was small and cramped, feeling more like a college dorm. We regularly use Mercure.Accor hotels but tbis was disappointing.

My sister and I were only staying for one night but I am so glad we found your hotel, lovely airy room with huge bathroom ,and the grounds so relaxing for a morning stroll. Breakfast fresh and lovely variety ,vegan alternative for my sis happily supplied , the waiter was very helpful.

« Fantastic »

Stayed for a Comedy Dinning night which was brillant. We were a party of 10 very happy with the room breakfast etc. Our only disappointment was that we could not use the pool area. We felt that this would be a great addition for hotel guests to be able to use it. Lovely grounds and hotel is very nicely situated. Very Happy with our stay

Very good went for a wedding and everything was perfect. Hotel rooms could do with a bit of TLC but otherwise no problems Don't park under the trees in the car park I think an flock of Albatross attacked the car it took a car wash and jet wash to get it all off

« Stunning location with great hospitality »

What a location to stay! Absolutely beautiful gardens and hotel is lovely inside too. The only negatives I have - some of the smaller rooms had no air con - they did have a very small fan however it was a very warm morning trying to get prepared for a wedding. There was also a few incidents with fire alarms going off, twice, in the wee hours of the morning. Having to evacuate with 2 small children was not the best, we also had several elderly immobile guests in our party and staff did not assist them in exiting the building. However, despite this, it was an enjoyable stay and food was pleasant, drinks were slightly over priced, but a great venue!

« Lovelt setting with excellent staff »

Parts of the hotel are a bit tired and need some loving care. The majority of the staff are brilliant. Reception were really helpful and informative. Mata and Lubo in the bar/restaurant are lovely, helpful, friendly and happy to chat (when there not busy) and offer suggestions on where to visit and what to choose from the menu. All the staff were really friendly. The hotel is in a lovely setting and really peaceful. We were there for a wedding which was managed beautifully by the master of ceremonies who again was friendly and helpful whilst keeping everything on track.

« Service good, accommodation poor and dated »

Good service from the staff. Accommodation poor. We were in the out buildings which were poorly decorated, there were no plug sockets unless you unplug tv and lamp. Had to boil kettle on floor under the bedside table. Plug socket was loose and dusty. Ordered room service coffee in the end and that arrived cold! Could hear every movement from the room above, which woke us very early in the morning. Certainly not worth the £100 we paid would class this as a 2 star room!! Main hotel looked lovely, breakfast was average.

« RUN DOWN AND HAD INFESTATION OF SOMETHING !! »

We were in a separate block from the main hotel. Room 7 on the upper floor. Very run down indeed. Good points were - Clean room, good bed, bed linen and towels. Bad points - building needs demolished; no money spent on it in years; INFESTATION OF A AMINAL SPECIES IN LOFT SPACE WHICH COULD BE HEARD IN ROOM RUNNING !! The staff explained it may be bats !! BATS DON'T RUN!! Staff explained vermin pest control inspected area last week and found nothing. A good idea may be to get this area re-inspected. MAIN HOTEL - We did not venture further than the reception area which was run down with dirty carpets. We checked out very early the following day.

« DISSAPOINTED »

On approaching the Hotel I thought what a lovely place this is for a wedding venue. we had pre booked our room through your central booking. there was confusion on this as we were told the hotel was full even though we were told originally there were rooms available for the wedding of my niece we were traveling to. My niece asked us earlier due to this could they use our room to get ready in, to which we agreed. Upon arrival we were greeted and told our room was not ready for us which we already knew about and was not worried about. When we finally got booked in it was not in the hotel as such but in an outbuilding . Room 18 was not what we expected. the room smelt damp, the bed was pushed into a corner due to the small size of the room which meant one of us slept against a radiator & couldn't get out of the bed. During the night as the room was by the main door into the block we were awoken several times with people entering and going up the stairs which is situated on the wall with our headboard other side. When we got up in the morning I went to make a cup of tea only to find a hole in the side of the kettle. Breakfast was excellent. Overall with the wedding it was a good experience but the room let you down badly.

« Ok but would not return »

The stay was pretty average. Hotel and our room looked tired and would benefit from carpet and furniture cleaning. Check in gentleman tried to charge us again for a prepaid booking and bar staff would only offer water or beer in exchange for vouchers. Breakfast staff very pleasant but the food and offerings were poor. Check out staff pleasant but we only had to return our key card. I would not recommend this hotel and when in the area would not book a return visit. All a little disappointing really.

Almost felt tangled up in the wedding party which we hadn't been made aware of prior to our visit. However the excellent service and friendly staff put us in the mood to enjoy it. The food was particularly good; the room a bit dated but acceptable for the price.
