The room decor was rather old fashioned although comfortable and well equipped. Hotel is in a lovely setting, the views from the restaurant especially pretty. Menu was varied, food good. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Overall very enjoyable. However Room 25 is subject to a lot of noise late at night due to partygoers congregating on and around the main staircase. Would suggest this room was reserved for people booking overnight stays as part of any celebration taking place at the hotel.

We found the hotel to have so much potential, as seen with the development of the reception areas. However, the accommodation upstairs and in the lavatories on the ground floor needed to be brought up to the same standard.

« Fine, but expected better »

The rooms were very tired and needed updating & refreshing. The food was very ordinary, with poor breakfast choice. Only fried eggs available (and they had been there for a while, so were warm and hard) , why no option for scrambled or poached!?! Sausages were tasteless and anemic looking. Sliced shop bought bread etc. My wife had a bad prawn from one of your canapes, and so didn't have a good night's sleep, so again points to poor food. The staff themselves were friendly and the grounds were lovely.

I am coeliac so advised requirement for gluten free food. This was picked up by certain staff but not all. Those that did pick up on this fact were more customer orientated no matter what the issue and it was a more pleasurable experience dealing with these staff. Unrelated to above the unavailability of a lift for carrying up luggage to room.

« Great location but service need to be improved »

hotel is a great location in the contry side. Really lovely. But quality of the service is not there. The constraints given to the young / low experience waiters drive to unexpected situation where I had to pay each individual beers at the bar.... That's not what I am used to in all other hotels... Waited 20min to have my checkout because the butler was not able to provide an invoice with the company name to the previous client "due to the system, we cannot change it". Butler was almost agressive to me when I said I will have same request and this is a mandatory requirements from our companies. I suggested that if the system doesn't work, we can try to put the company name manually on the invoice with the stamp of the hotel. I let you appreciate his response: "you want do do my job ?"... Water flow of the toilets was really difficult to launch, you need to try 10 times to flush.... No air conditionning is a problem during hot season was terribly hot in the room. Overall, this hotel has the potential to be really good if the service and few improvements are put in place.

« Nice but could be better »

The hotel could be such a great place to stay if it was just updated and tweaked in a few areas. First impression, lovely house stunning setting then...that carpet in the entrance and downstairs needs replacing it looks like tarmac!!! The outside furniture is all broken not enough of it and only 3 umbrellas... 1 broken. The room was nice size and clean but... why did you update the tiles and flooring round an old and broken bathroom suit?? Chips out of the bath and a huge piece of the toilet had been broken off and cemented back on. As a terrible hygiene issue I asked for a reduction in the price of my room! If everyone does that it would have been cheaper to replace it! Staff were nice and breakfast was also fine. Shame the swimming pool is not for guests as not a lot else near the hotel you need it as a draw. Just a few upgrades and it would have been very nice.

« Rude waiter, noisy room »

The room was decent and the food good- and the building and grounds were stunning it wasn’t an ideal stay The waiter we had was unhelpful and didn’t seem to cope well with our large party. To the point that he refused a number of reasonable requests and was extremely awkward with us when we were trying to pay. We then had to ask some members of staff to not smoke outside our window in the Mews and talk loudly v late. They then went indoors and smoked cannabis and blared v loud music until late
