Our stay was satisfactory, met our needs but definite room for improvement..on arriving we were disappointed our twin room was not seafront view plus felt it was quite small compared to other twin rooms we have stayed in.. only one chair when room was for two people..no real seating area, just the beds..bathroom looked nice, but smelt damp..we ate out rather than in hotel as felt cost of breakfast was very expensive..we fancied a drink at the bar early one evening and was shocked to be charged around £20 for two glasses of wine..we thought this was very expensive too..hotel was a satisfactory place to stay to use as a base and to rest our heads when spending a few days on Brighton seafront

There is an evident lack of process and training standards are far below other Mercure (and indeed Novotel and even IBIS) - Gold Members have to ask for an upgrade, remind staff of a complimentary welcome drink. (This evidence is gathered over the past 4 or 5 visits).

Staff were so incredibly welcoming and helpful. Recent renovation to a high standard and the restaurant/bar was delightful. Only disappointment was the terrible lift situation - not ideal when you have a baby/pushchair that you need to transport.

Really love the refurbishment. Looks amazing very chic. However was very disappointed to be put in a room located above the delivery/loading bay and woken up on Bank Holiday Monday at 7am! Last thing you need on a night away from your usual mundane working day.

The hotel is going through a refurbishment which didn't inconvenience us at all. This has made the hotel look amazing inside. The room we had was well prepared for us and clean. The food on the breakfast buffet was nice and if you required anything else they would prepare it for you. This hotel we will be coming back to again.

« Attentive caring staff & spotlessly clean, comfortable hotel »

I thought the hotel was superb. All staff were attentive without being overly so, polite and genuinely cared that their guests were having a nice stay. The hotel was spotlessly clean and our room was very comfortable with all mod cons. I slept like a log in the super comfy bed and it was lovely to able to open the patio doors to have fresh air (we stayed in the Mews section). Location was perfect, a short walking distance to all the attractions.

We stayed as a family of three and found the rooms standard did not justify the room tariff. Firstly, the toilet did not flush, the handle had to be operated several times harshly for the toilet to work. The shower door did not close. My wife and daughter were annoyed that there was no hair dryer in the room, something you get as standard in a budget hotel. The toilet issue was not identified until early evening, we felt it to be a hassle to move rooms given as a family we were preparing for an evening out. So was not reported until checkout. When relaying our experience, whilst apologetic, the member of staff seemed disinterested and not sincere in his apology. I fear room 119 will be let to another customer who will experience the same toilet issue. My experience has certainly made me think twice about booking a Mecure hotel in the future.

I had a great experience with Mercure on my previous trip to Bridgwater. Great team and good rooms. I expected something similar from Brighton Mercure as it is a popular tourist destination. This was the reason i booked Mercure Brighton with a higher price. The rooms were not properly maintained and collecting dust. The hotel itself has got a lot to offer being Grade 1 listed building, but requires a good amount of maintenance. The staff at the reception wasn't helpful first. Had to wait about 15 minutes at the reception to get the staff talking to me and get my booking details with a long queue building behind me. Anyways, i will be using Mercure Bridgwater but wouldnt prefer staying at Mercure Brighton

I knew some building work was taking place thanks to online reviews but a curtsey email would have been nice so I could have prepared the expectation of just how much work. Kinda ruined it checkng in walking under ladders etc and all the mattress piled up on the roof. Was also a bit under welmed by the room. Was expecting more for a privilege room but maybe cause I booked it through Wowcher it was different to the pictures on your website than if I booked it through you.

Good breakfast. Very nice room. Hotel walls too thin. Noisy neighbours. Repairs in progress (bit scary in the beginning) but worked out beautifully. Room (regular) extremely cramped.
