« Not up to standard »

The TV didn't work, I was told it was due to adverse weather conditions, The rooms either side were fine though. The Kettle split when boiling, spilling boiling water all over my paperwork and desk. There was a lack of staff on the bar. The guy was running between a function and the bar so lengthy wait. I gave up.I left my room at 11 returning at 3 and it had not been made up - despite a sign on the door and the cleaners equipment outside the room Nobody on reception or bar when arrived back in the evening despite the bar was still clearly open. We served ourselfs and left the money on the till

we had to wait a long time before anyone got behind the bar to serve us, came down for breakfast to be told it was only continental as the chef hadn't turned up again! The self service area was also very cramped and found myself trying to avoid knocking into other guests

The hotel really does need a bit of TLC. A lick of paint, a feather duster, the smell of damp taken care of.. Also, the Ms Haversham style set up of how conferences could look is a bit sad in my honest opinion.

We were a little disappointed... when we were shown our room, it wasn't the room l saw on the web page (classic double room). When l asked why ......l was told they had a full house and that was what we were allocated on that day....We booked our room in early August and our stay was in late September...the redeeming feature was, we were given another room by Management...bed firm ... pillows hard....breakfast good.

Overall the experience was good. Service in the bar was slow (absent) from time to time but I assumed the staff had other duties too. I spoke to reception about it once and then staff did appear. All staff were always helpful. Unfortunately I had to cut my stay short but this was nothing to do with the hotel.

« Nice hotel for a weekend break »

Overall, the hotel was nice and a good place to stay for a weekend away. I felt the Restaurant menu was a little limiting with not enough variety. There were at least 3 different main course meals that were based on a burger. As we were staying two nights, it would have been nice to have had a wider choice. One of the features of the room was a Nespresso coffee machine, however the hotel had run out of Nespresso Pods, so the machine was useless.

Upon arrival the hotel looks lovely but inside its very dated, the room ‘Chelsea’ was in need of a serious upgrade, paint and new bathroom. Very grotty and the room service was appalling. A stale sandwich with a handful of rocket on a plate for £6 + £5 charge for the service!!! Diabetic and pregnant so no other option on the menu. Wouldn’t stay again, especially not for the price we paid.

We stayed for 3 nights (Saturday to Tuesday) . The room was clean, but the small table had a broken plinth so didn’t stand up properly, so was no use to put anything on it. The standard of decor was poor with the wall paper starting to spilt at the seams. The toilet in the bathroom had a temperamental flush system. We dined in the restaurant on the Saturday evening the meal was good. Buffet style Breakfast on Sunday morning, some of the items were cold. We had breakfast cooked as requested on the Monday, and the Buffet set up was on Tuesday, which was much better. As we are looking to move to the Area in the the near future, we would be looking for accommodation for friends and family to stay whilst visiting the area.

After reading some negative reviews, I was perfectly happy with my stay, room and surroundings were clean, dinner in restaurant was good, although more good pub grub style than 4* hotel(steaks, burgers, fish and chips), didn’t use health club facilities which is just across car park so cannot comment on that

No one at reception, far too long to check in. Wallpaper in room 39 peeling at edges. 'barman' in the bar had no idea about wines available, said don't sell champagne by glass, later asked a 'manager' who said just because its on the bar list doesn't mean we sell it. Cooked food at breakfast was lukewarm because heated trays not hot. We have stayed in several Mercure hotels in France and they were well above the standard of this one.

Room was dated, need redecorating- wallpaper falling off. Room was very hot so had to ask for a fan which was brought up after about 10 mins so that was fine. Bathroom needed a bit more cleaning- just a bit dusty. Breakfast was okay, just needed more stuff put out for the cold breakfast. Staff were all friendly and helpful

The first night we stayed in a large family room. We were then moved to a smaller family room which I did not mind except the bathroom had black mould in the grouting and needed bleaching and a deeper clean. It was a little unpleasant. The room however was tidy and the staff were very helpful and apologetic. The rooms are a little tired and may benefit from renewed bathrooms. The pool area is large which is great for children. We enjoyed our stay.
