« Lovely location but needs alot of TLC »

Signs to rooms do not include Room 121 after you leave the lobby - very confusing! Room 121 is apparently used as the Bridal dressing room which is fine but there is only one old chair in the entire main room. Décor is at best shabby. The small annex room has a sofa and a huge mirror so totally useless for normal guests. No robes or slippers available even though it is a so called privilege room - reception found 1 pair of slippers only after enquiring. Gardens desperately need some serious weeding and flower bed work doing. Lovely helpful Staff made up for a lot of the shortfalls.

We were concerned that we were unable to book for Dinner on arrival due to an event that was taking place that night. Meals for that event appeared to take priority over providing us with an evening meal. We were told that we were the only other guests in the Hotel apart from those staying as part of the event. We had to wait to see if we would get an evening meal. Then it was confirmed that we could get something to eat but not until 9.30pm as the Kitchen was dealing with meals for the event. This was disappointing as we had been travelling for over 3 hours and expected there would be no issue requesting a meal as we arrived around 7.00pm. This was not my first visit . I had chosen the Hotel to celebrate my Partner's 65th Birthday. I felt like we were an 'Afterthought' and of little importance as Guests at the Hotel - in relation to the event that was taking place that evening. Despite this, we were well treated by all the Staff. I requested and received a Bedside Table on Saturday, as there was only one in the Room. I really like this Hotel and would visit again but felt a little disappointed on this visit. Particularly as I had booked the weekend as a suprise. The first night was a little tarnished for me because of the points outlined above.

The room was not up to the standard I was expecting. only one bedside cabinet, shower poor. waiting long times at the bar, seemed to be a lot down to the till. breakfast room was full up so we was dumped off in a cold an sparce seperate room, had to wait while a small toaster was used, which made the cooked food get cold.

« Good and bad »

Good evening Wilma     We have mixed feelings on our stay. We came for the murder mystery evening.and stayed the weekend  The good. Entertainment was very good.but we all guessed wrong Food was lovely.well cooked and very enjoyable.    staff was excellent. Pleasant and very helpful. Now The bad. Ordered two double and a disabled rooms.  We got one small box double nothing like your picture of a classic room.( we had room 115. Please sed picture) No chair to sit on   just enough room to walk around the bed. No bedside cabinet on one side. Of bed. Not quite what we thought a room in a 4 star hotel should look like. Our other double turned into two singles. as there was an issue with our other double room. So the double room we ordered in March,was not available. But we did get a bottle of wine thrown after we complained.( think that should have been automatic). And lastly our disabled room was not a true disabled room in the sense.  As one of our friends his in a wheelchair and found the bed was a struggle to get on and off without help as it was to high. and she found she could not get around the bathroom in her wheelchair. Believing it was a poor design if you are confined to a wheelchair.  Regards Tim f.

« Very good, breakfast was a let down. »

Lovely hotel, comfortable rooms and the afternoon tea was not only generous but delicious. Evening meal was also really good part of a murder mystery evening. Couldn’t fault the service. Comfortable, clean rooms but no air con made for a stuffy night on the warmest night of the year so far. Breakfast was crowded and plates and food ran out on a couple of occasions. Will I go back? Definitely despite couple of issues felt it was good value for money.

« Brilliant Murder Mystery.... poor quality room. Would not consider this to be a 4 star experience »

We stayed in room 127 and although it was spacious and the bed was comfortable this room definitely needs to be updated. The bathroom is something I would expect in a 2 star B&B. The hotel staff however were all very polite and friendly. The hotel is set in lovely grounds but I would say this hotel needs refurbishment.

« Hotel was over priced considering the condition of the gardens and building. »

Very disappointed with the bar, it was over priced, and the beer selection was terrible considering the location of the hotel. We were lucky that there was a pub two minutes up the road. The garden and the building were poorly maintained and not to get biscuits with room coffee etc was appalling.

Thank you for asking for my feedback.... I purchase a lot of experience days via Virgin and this experience was the worst. Mercure Newton park hotel is not a 4 star hotel....it was dreadful. I booked a family room: * there were only 2 plug sockets in whole room when you have mobiles and consoles to charge this was crazy * I don't think the place had been decorated for 30 plus years it was tatty and shabby throughout * our shower was unusable....it was a dangerous hot temperature and when you moved to cold you got less than a dribble to nothing When I complained in the morning after our stay the male receptionist said I should have said about shower the night before ( we didn't check in until late as had been to Alton Towers but I said to him it should have been checked before check in).... He said it was an old hotel and therefore they couldn't just add electrics/ plugs.... This night was nearly £200 via my voucher i would have been treated better in a 70 pound a night travel lodge....

The rooms and public areas are in need of a refurbishment but the hotel provides value for money given the rate I paid. The choice of food was limited and disappointing given the lack of alternatives in the vicinity. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Overall I got the chance impression that the hotel is on the Accor disposal list. It neeeds some TLC

Had to change rooms on first time. Second room had odd smell. Shower had low water pressure. Second room didn't have second towel on second day of stay. Staff were very accommodating and nice.

Our stay was a mixed bag if perfectly honest; I'll start with the positives. The reception desk on check in were courteous and greeted us with a smile, and check in was quick and efficient, the size of the room was very good and the bed was very comfortable. The front of the hotel and surrounding area is beautiful. Unfortunately as a frequent Mercure visitor through work and also through personal choice several times the hotel failed on various points for me which were as follows; • We were not told of a wedding function occurring at the hotel before our stay. I would think out of common courtesy you might mention this so we could of decided whether to stay at your venue through a wedding party. We arrived Saturday evening and it was very loud and we were awoken various times throughout the night which was not ideal. • One of the key parts of a hotel room for me is the shower. It was either scolding hot or freezing cold, no medium range which was disappointing, my partner must of stood with the water running for 10 minutes trying to get it to an appropriate temperature. • Not the hotels fault but a power cut on Monday morning made showering and checking out all the more difficult....especially with the problems we had in our shower and also having to shower in the dark. A couple of minor issues and the shower was a big issue for us during our stay. Honest feedback for you there which hopefully you could pass onto maintenance and try to help others have a more enjoyable experience. The hotel is in a lovely location and in a grand old building so a few minor fixes could make this a very good hotel to stay in.
