« Good hotel but bad staff »

We are used to stay at Sofitel hotels but this one is not worthy of Sofitel because of the staff ! At 10am we informed the reception desk that the safety box of the room was blocked with all our money and valuables inside. The concierge came but could not open it. He called someone of the maintenance who could not open it neither and said he has to call an external company. In the meantime I went alone to the breakfast which was supposed to be until 11 a.m. on Sunday. I was seated on a table waiting for my friend who finally came at 10:30 when he finished with the concierge and the maintenance trying to solve the problem with the safety box. We ordered 2 dishes on the menu (eggs). 15 minutes later, we were still waiting for the eggs (!) and I decided to already order a bircher muesli which is available only on the menu, not in self-service (never seen that before...) and the waitress told me "Sorry the kitchen has already closed". It was only 10:45 and nobody has warned before, anticipating our wishes. Finally we received our eggs (which were probably forgotten as we had to remind it to the waitress). The maitre d'hotel came and I finally had a bircher, thank you. The staff of the breakfast was mediocre and we had never seen people so undynamic (not smiley, walking slowly). Then we came back to our room. No news of the staff about our problem with the safety box. We had to call again the reception. Then we were informed that the external enterprise will arrive in 45 minutes. No one came after this deadline. We had to call again because nobody kept us informed ! Finally someone arrived around 12:50 and the safety box was opened at 1pm, 3 hours after having annouced the problem at the reception desk !!! We were furious because we had only that day in Wellington and could not visit the town because of this problem. When we asked : "what would have happened if we had to catch a plane ?", we received the unappropriated answer : "good question..." ! When we checked out the following day, the person at the reception did not ask if we were satisfied with our stay and we received no official excuses. No compensation was offered... We will not stay at this hotel when we will come back in Wellington, only because of the staff.

Like the breakfast that is ala carte based for main but the service was very slow. Took about 40 mins just to have the main served. Hotel is clean and nice. Gym is adequate.

« Very good hotel food was very good too »

We wanted a few days away in Wellington. The hotel was very clean and the rooms a good size. Bathrooms good. Not too much to improve upon. I think a doorstop to use when entering and exiting the room might be a good idea.

« Relaxed and impressed by environment which was complimented by the team »

My expectation of Sofitel was set quite high due to the hotels visual impact upon arrival. Needless to say all went well and the team were extremely helpful at every ask. The restaurant served up a sumptuous meal and my car which was valet service was always on schedule. I thought the hotel gym was well equippied and would serve most well. Sofitel Wellington is a hotel I would gladly return too.

A lovely warm welcome by hotel staff (not to mention the most gorgeous scent wafting in the hotel lobby). Throughout our stay staff were extremely friendly - down to the waitstaff person in the Green Room who remembered our drink order from the previous night - even though there were a lot of people.

Disappointing stay. Room not particularly clean. Bed not made properly. Cooked breakfast took an hour. Bar closed before 11pm and the Barman would not even give us a drink to take to our room. Off hand staff.

I think that a major asset of the hotel is good customer service and great staff - across the whole hotel. I liked the luxury room, as it is more spacious and have a seating area, which distinguishes it from other category rooms. I like that the Platinum benefits such as early check-in/late check-out are granted and that the hotel tries to accommodate guests needs. I like that the a la carte breakfast it is consistently good. However, it’s been disappointing to see that no carrots, celery or peeled oranges are available for juicing. It looks that the hotel is phasing out the juicer, as putting only apples, pears and unpeeled oranges, limits use of the juicer. I like that the drink vouchers can be used on Cloudy Bay Pelorus, which is a premium NZ sparkling wine. However, I have heard that it would be phased out too - hopefully not - in the absence of a club lounge, at least you can do that. Overall, the restaurant offering went a bit inconsistent, with cheaper options available during Sunday brunches (more cheap carbs less meat) and less attention paid to T-bone over dinner , which used to be my favourite option (last time my T-bone had all possibilities in it from well-done to rare, I am sure that someone who was cutting it saw that not everywhere it was medium-rare). However, there are still some fabulous options on the menu. Overall strong 7.

« Enjoyable stay and attentive staff »

A positive comfortable stay. Reception staff were very helpful and courteous. Room was modern and provided with good amenities. We were upgraded to another room without asking. Restaurant was very good. The front Bar does not offer Accor Club members any discounts, although the restaurant does- it would be preferable if membership privileges applied throughout the hotel, as happens elsewhere. Overall a very positive experience.

Very comfortable, clean and spacious. Close to CBD and all amenities. Service was good. 24-hour check-in and check-out, which was very convenient. It would have been nice to have a work-desk and more cupboard space, but otherwise, great stay. Highly recommended.
