It was ok, the staff were polite ad friendly. The pillows were uncomfortable.The breakfast very basic. The menu for other food was diabolical, so for a woman travelling alone on business, this made it very hard to get something decent, as didn't feel comfortable sat in a pub or somewhere away from the hotel to eat.

My experience of the staff, the facilities and hotel in general was smooth and efficacious. I wanted an iron and board so requested them and got them within minutes. The hairdrier in the room was brokeen so i reported it and a new one as brought up within minutes. However, it lacked some other basice like an interest in their customersxperience.... I called before making a long journey to the hotel, enquiring as to the best route to take through the city to avoid congested roads etc.... The staff were unable to advise me on any of the roads because as they said: they "do not drive". As it happened, our route into the city was horrendous and took two hours, i tried explaining this to a woman at the reception who clearly was not at all interested. This lack of 'real' customer care really dimmed my overall experience. I wasnt expecting all bells n whistles but i do want to be listened to when i offer feedback.

Lovely spacious room, Nice hot shower. Great Sleep! I don't eat a big breakfast - but the set upload nice. The coffee itself needs improving though.

Generally the hotel is pretty good but the windows let through a significant draft. This does, however, mean that you do not need a fridge in the room to keep your milk cold! Also, the floor just in front of the toilet was disintegrating in my room. Only the floor tiles were holding it together.

I stayed over last weekend at ibis Styles Birmingham Centre and from as soon as I walked into the reception area I should have turned around and gone home. In fact I should not have really gone as the online check-in was not sent so I had to check in at the reception. I should have worked it out then that it would be an awful weekend. The male reception was not welcoming at all. I handed over my Gold advantage card. He didn't look at it and just asked for my name. He then proceed to "advise" me where to sign the registration form. I was given the key card and had to then remind him that I was due a free drinks voucher. I then went to the room. I noticed they only had the one lift working so extra time was spent messing about waiting for that to be used. Then onto the Sunday. I went out after breakfast and came back about 5pm. I again had to wait for a lift as the other one still had not been fixed. Finally I got the my room. The one on the highest floor furthest away from the lift. I tried the keycard and nothing except a red flashing light. I tried several time and always a red light. So back to reception after yet again waiting for the one and only working lift. And the keycard was "reactivated". I go back to the room after yet again waiting for the one and only working lift work to find that the room had not been cleaned or touched in anyway whatsoever. So no new towels, no replenished tea/coffee, no new toilet roll etc. I tried to ring reception. Guess what. The phone did not work in the room. So again from the furthest room away from reception,after yet again waiting for the one and only working lift, I went to find out why my room had not been touched. I was told it was because the hotel had had some problems. Well yes my room had not been cleaned for one. The lift does not work etc etc. So I then go back to my room and after yet again waiting for the one and only working lift to take me to floor 6, someone finally arrived to make up the room at about 1730 ish. So all in all I truly dreadful weekend spent at the Ibis Styles. And I am a Gold advantage card holder. God knows what sort of welcome and service someone with a lesser card has.

The reception are was clean and tidy,the receptions was polite. However when we arrived at our room, for a brief rest before attending an evening meeting, we found one of the pillows was stained in a number of areas with a red and a pale yellow coloured stains on both sides of the pillow. We had read your notice about you not bleaching sheets etc., this however was a totally unacceptable for so many reasons! I am sure you will agree, totally disgusting for so many reasons! We gave the pillow to the receptionist on our way out to the meeting and she arranged they then changed the cover. How your house keeping staff could have missed that I do not know! It made us wary of sleeping at the hotel, I must say. also one bottom sheet was tucked in and the other twin bedded sheet was not tucked in all the way round. It made us feel uneasy about the whole room, but the bathroom was clean In the morning we went for breakfast, the ham was half covered with plastic which guests had to use their hands to take it off - not at all hygienic. Staff were more interested in talking to themselves that assisting guests, they were not proactive - only when wanting to clean the tables whilst you were eating! Please take a look at the so called 'clean cutlery', it took three attempts to find a clean knife, please I have a photograph of the first two found. If you wish to see them please send me an email address as is does not appear to be able to be pasted to this form. As mentioned your receptionist on duty was was polite, I do however believe your house keeping staff and front of house breakfast staff in particular require further training. No one wants to hear what the staff talking loudly about their problems/ what they are up to or who is coming in on late shift at the expense of getting service from breakfast staff, I am sorry to say I think they do need some further training. Please contact me for a copy of the photograph of the knives if so required.

On the whole very good but I have to say that you can really hear noise through the bedroom windows that face the street and quite a bit of cold air comes in - at least the curtains are thick!

This is a very friendly and practical hotel. This was our second visit and we would return if in the area again. Comfortable bed, good and easy-to-use shower. Good supply of refreshments and tissues. Breakfast is only Continental style but there is a reasonable selection. A very good feature is that guests can sit in the breakfast area at any time and enjoy hot drinks. The bathroom is cleverly designed so that the door closes the complete room or just the separate toilet area. Make a booking to see what we mean! Our thanks to the friendly staff on reception, the helpful maintenance man, the lady who looked after the breakfast and the friendly Polish lady who looked after the rooms. We hope to see you again.

For under £50 this was way above what I was expecting. A good shower, clean and spacious room with desk and sofa space and right next to a very pleasant little pub. Perfectly located for my day at Birmingham & Midland Institute

« Hotel poor quality, heating primitive, breakfast would have been better from Aldi! »

Heating is first room did not work. Second room has primitive system of convection heater - still not warm and no good for asthmatics. Couldn't be bothered asking for another room when they all have same heating. Lighting poor, desk light died after 30 mins so had to use light from TV to work. I have a better breakfast at home on a weekday morning: muesli mainly oats and not much else, yoghurt natural and strawberry, tinned fruit, rubber cheese and plastic ham, so I decided on toast which was white or brown - no whole grain. Toaster took forever, then only one sort of jam - strawberry - and no good if you are allergic, so settled for marmalade. Glad I only booked one night. I will not do so again
