« Good stay, but why paper cups for the coffee & tea in the room? »

I was generally very happy with my recent stay in the Mercure hotel in Macon on 22nd June (reservation reference HLRDDJNQ). I was particularly pleased that there was a kettle in our room, to make tea and coffee, and decent quality tea bags (not the dreadful tasteless Lipton yellow label tea so prevalent on the continent). However, I cannot understand why you provide very small disposable paper cups with plastic lids and disposable wooden stirring sticks, rather than proper full size ceramic mugs and metal teaspoons as are found in most British hotels, even budget chain hotels. Accor, like many businesses these days, at least claims to be concerned about the environment. To provide single use disposable not reusable cups & stirring sticks seems unnecessarily wasteful, when the trend is against single use cups. Drinks taste better from a real cup, not a cardboardy cup. When you provide a decent quality of tea, I'd rather have a generous sized mug of it. It's hard to wash and reuse a paper cup, e.g. if you want a cup of coffee on arrival at the hotel, and then a cup of tea the following morning, or vice versa. So please, keep providing the kettles and nice tea & coffee in your hotel rooms, but with proper large ceramic mugs & real teaspoons!

Quiet and good location from motorway, nice welcoming, average food proposition, room ok but very tiny bathroom and bed too hard, pillows not comfortable. The restaurant served good food -excellent deserts - although the breakfast was disappointing somehow: the selection is good but not cooked on spot.

The hotel is superbly sited, the rooms comfortable and a good size. However the service was poor, a 30 minute wait for a menu, an hour and a half wait for our (assembled platter) meal was appalling. It took several attempts to get an accurate bill, we were charged for a non existent dog, breakfasts we hadn’t eaten and taxe de séjour for four people rather than three. Very disappointing and not at all the standard I expect of accor hotels. I would stay there again, for the situation but would not eat there and would check my bill very carefully.

« Site superb, staff pleasant, organisation and restaurant service abysmal. »

The hotel is in a beautiful situation, overlooking the river and close to a park. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped though the towels are small and very thin, they need replacing! The service in the restaurant is exceedingly slow, we ate there on two evenings and it was thirty minutes before we received the menu then something close to an hour and a half before we were served our food. We had numerous attempts to get a correct bill, we were charged for breakfasts we didn’t have, a non-existant dog and taxe de séjour for an individual who didn’t exist!

« not a great experience! air co did not work and bathroom not up to the standard of a 4 hotel »

I was given a room and air co was not functionning. Toilet are old and dirty. Towels are low standard.

Nice hotel for a stopover on your way to the South of France. We stayed one night. The rooms are very nice for a Mercure (almost like a Novotel, except the standard Mercure-level bathroom). But the dinner at the restaurant was a mess - food was decent but clearly there isn’t enough staff so service was terrible (mixed up orders, more than an hour waiting between starter and main course, mistakes on the bill...).

Well situated, nicely repaired and refurbished. Constantly changing personnel - those who were there before repairs and supervised the work are gone. New personnel is actually new every time we stop in Macon. They are getting younger and less and less experienced and most nowadays have no clue as to where anything is, how to respond to anything one asks except with an empty look or a stare. Beds are too hard (it’s like sleeping on a cement slab), the terrace no longer protected from the sun (thus unusable in summer), the restaurant still not up to a 3-star hotel.

Great staff well look after and made every effort to help! Brilliant. Only down side was a car blaring music screeching around outside in the middle of the night. Not the hotels fault though :)

This hotel is a favourite as an overnight stop as it is reliable with easy parking and is next to the river if you want to go for a pleasant evening walk, (wearing suitably well worn shoes as there are no proper paved areas around the streets ). The hotel has a restaurant and a good buffet breakfast.
