We booked a privilege room and required the sofa bed to be made. As I booked only 1 hour before arriving the room wasn't ready which is expected. The girl at the front desk was very efficient and came up to the room within 5 minutes to make the sofabed. The sofabed had dirty bedding already on it when opened up and the bathroom smelt. The girl apologised and sorted another room within 10 minutes. In the new room the hand towel was dirty, which the girl changed quickly and apologised again. She was very friendly and efficient. I really appreciated how quick she sorted the issues and so I could get the children to bed. The breakfast was good and the staff were friendly. When checking out we were told that we will not be charged for the room due to the inconvenience . The customer service is excellent. All the staff we interacted with during our stay were polite, friendly and gave a great service. The only thing negative is the cleanliness by the cleaning staff. Mercure is one of the two hotels we always stay in when visiting family in Rotherham. On this occasion the cleanliness of the rooms was not to the standard we have received on previous visits.

The main function of a hotel is to provide a bed. The way the beds are made up, literally gave me a pain in the back. The duvet covers a too big for the duvet, and the excess is tucked tightly between the mattress and the base. This means that before getting into bed, I had to walk, bent double, round the whole bed, untucking the duvet cover, and retucking the bottom sheet (covering the mattress). Why do this? Why not have duvet covers that fit the duvet and just drape them over the bed. I don't understand why hotels go to all this effort to make their beds so difficult to use.

Hotel offers a good range of services and has good parking and well equipped rooms. We booked the privilege room which was well worth the small extra cost. The food was gastro pub type and good. We had our dog with us and there is a large grassed area at the back to exercise them. The hotel is maintained to a good standard but has a slightly retro feel. We are partially disabled and the staff were very helpful. We enjoyed our stay.

My stay was for 5 nights, staff were friendly and accommodating. Room clean wasn't the greatest, bed was just made over but sheets were left bunched up and unmade. Constant removal of opened bar of soap and replacement with a new one unnecessary, by day three they removed soap altogether, providing no replacement from here on, bizarre! All sorts under bed, little silver canisters, some previous occupier to me had, had a party.

It was fine, staff very helpful We looked after our one year grandchild over one night of the stay to give mum and dad a night off and the staff were very helpful with the inconvenience this caused in the dining room. Only thing that is a small problem is that the card keys frequently stop working and have to get them sorted quite often. We were advised to keep them away from phones but this is difficult since phone is in my handbag all the time along wit the key card.

I stayed here for our wedding with our wedding parties. As people were travelling we booked under a group booking. From the start this was a nightmare, we struggled to get in touch with people and the group passed us on to events and then events passed us back again. Other guests had the same issue. I received no confirmations even though I asked time and time again so not sure what happened there. Again this was the case for all three rooms I booked over this service. Then on check out we have had serious issues with rooms not being paid for when they were supposed to have been and I'm still not sure where we stand this with. A room booked 12 hours before another in exactly the same way was paid whereas another was not. Also one room was paid when I double checked and then in the morning apparently it wasn't. We would never ever use this service again. In terms of the hotel staff the majority were absolutely outstanding and couldn't have asked for better. They were going out their way to make sure the day before the wedding and the wedding day itself went well. I left the room in a state due to six of us getting ready with three different hair and make up ladies. When I got back I got a huge shock to find rose petals, towel art and glitter on the bed with bubbly on ice. The room has also been tidied up best they could. This was such a sweet little touch and I can't thank them enough. The morning after they were all asking how it went and we got a little surprise at breakfast. I could honestly not fault them. Only issue I had was on checking out due to the rooms I got a stroppy member of staff asking where the reservation and booking details were and why I was questioning if the room was paid when I believed it to be so I had already told her the issues we had with the events team. She basically called me a lier and said it looked dodgy. I appreciate the masses of group bookings with Internet bookings made it so difficult and she had probably had a tough morning but she could have dealt with it better. She eventually said she would pass it onto events and I agreed that was fine and to contact me if they looked through to find any payments missing and I could deal with it straight away and pay once it had been double checked. I was trying to clean the room out at the time so was struggle to look up bookings and banks at the time. All the other staff were wonderful! Having moaned at you I honestly had a wonderful time staying with you but thought I would be honest about the issues I had before the stay with you guys. Please will you thank all the staff for making the stay wonderful and giving me some lovely memories of the wedding day. The extra touches and helpfulness over the three days was incredible. We initially had our first date in Sheffield and stopped at the mercure in the city centre so you have given us wonderful memories over the pasted years. We will be back at mercure hotels in the future!!! Mr and Mrs White

Lovely stay however the rooms are a little tired round the edges and need a bit of tlc. Cracks round walls, screw covers missing on edge of shower tray etc. More importantly needs better pillows, they were as hard as rocks!
