Having previously enjoyed the facilities from it's inception and opening with tour groups visiting Kakadu National Park, I was extremely saddened to witness the deterioration of the hotel over time. It was evident that maintenance was not forthcoming, given that in 2020 (or thereabouts) this wonderful icon is going to be demolished in line with the legal requirements governing the Jabiru township. As is the case in approximately 70% of hospitality venues in Australia now, labour sources are recruited from "visiting travelers" in order to maintain budget profitability for the hotel corporation/chain with the end result, the hotel customers suffer in having to deal with employees who are not professionally trained, having limited English speaking ability, not suited to hospitality employment and lastly, just don't care about what they do, provided they earn some money. This was our experience during our stay and from my earlier comments, I felt embarrassed in attempting to show off what was once a professionally run and well tuned operation. In it's current format, I would be hard pressed to rate the hotel 3 stars.

My room was spacious and comfortable. I enjoyed looking at all of the Aboriginal artwork. The Taste of Kakadu art cocktail event was fun. I enjoyed meeting the artists and bought a painting. Bravo to Louise for setting it up

Negatives: Room decor dated. Bedding and towels seem 'well used'. Accessible room not to current accessibility standards. Door to accessible room (#101) heavy and difficult to open. Some outdoor areas not accessible. Accessible parking bay not clearly marked. Positives: Service, cleanliness and a food great.

Needs new bed.food was basically poor.steak fillet too tough to eat.Scrambled eggs taste disgusting.buffet very poor beef just edible glad I had y own teeth.Chicken dry tasteless .Menu needs more variety food mostly fried food or more choices.I am Mercure member worst food And selection of any Mercure place I have stayed.Staff were friendly and helpful .Great I only to pay half price for that poor food

Situated in the centre of the beautiful Kakadu National Park the hotel has good facilites with a small supermarket nearby. The menus are a bit limited but the quality of food and the exceptional restaurant staff more than compensate. As the park covers such an extensive area, the distances to places such as waterfalls, wetlands and other sites are quite long, in both directions, but well worth the trip. We were also glad to have hired a 4WD which allowed access to all of the best attractions.

Having no lift in the facility made our stay difficult. We were offered an alternate room on the ground floor at the "tail"of the building overlooking parked cars! After the first day the dirty towels were left in the bathtub, a bottle of cleaning liquid left on the vanity basin, and only one rubbish bin emptied. The second day the towels were again left in the bathtub.

The appearance of the hotel can be best described as run down. All the stairways and common areas were filthy to begin with. Even the mugs placed inside our room were dirty. Then at night the fire alarm went off twice. While I understand that it is out of anyone’s control, what’s surprising is none of your staff were trained to deal with this. It could have been an actual emergency instead of a faulty fire alarm! Also, we were redirected from the main entrance to restaurant for exiting the building. A staff came up to us and said “I don’t know if you can hear or not but a fire alarm has gone off.” Working in the hospitality industry myself, I feel that it is an extremely impolite way of talking to any guest. To top all this, there were bed bugs in the room. This just speaks of the low hygiene standards maintained at your hotel. Overall, my stay was not at all worth the 300$ price that I was charged. I am unlikely to choose Mercure Hotels again. Passing on this feedback with the hope that you do improve things.

« It was different »

The room was clean and bed comfortable but the whole place is rather dated and shabby. The paint on our bathroom door was peeling off. It would be nice to have a choice of pillows in the room for some of us who prefer a low pillow

« Our experience was quite pleasant. »

Our main concern was the bathroom facilities. For older people stepping into a bath arrangement to shower can be quite difficult. There was no handrail and no fixed rough surface on which to stand whilst showering. Otherwise the room was fine. The food and beverage manager was overworked between 6:00pm and 7:00. He had to check in diners, escort them to their tables and then was also required to take phone orders. Perhaps a member of the waiting staff could escort patrons to their tables.

We stayed at this hotel as part of an AAT Kings 2-day trip to Kakadu. The hotel rooms are quiet, clean, and comfortable and have all necessary amenities. Small refrigerator and coffee maker were welcome additions. The pillows were the best we had in our entire 3 week stay in Australia. Check in and check out was smooth. Our only problem was in the restaurant when our dinner ended up being less than satisfactory. The hotel took dinner charges off our bill, but the dining room problem ruined what would have been a perfect stay.

Rooms where plan and bathrooms definitely need updating and are a bit small , staff excellent and friendly. Would be great to have a tour or info desk with updated road conditions etc for visitors and help with plans for stay

There was a bit of wait for service while dinning at the resturant with the waiting staff concentrating on other guests but overall the food was nice and tasty. The pool was good but a bit cold as we thought it would be warmer.

We drove up to Kakadu for a night stay and I am thrilled we stayed at the Mercure. The hotel was great and bigger than I expected, Connor from FO was extremely helpful upon check in and gave us the ropes on what to do around the area. The room was spacious, close to the pool and very comfortable. The restaurant has a great selection of drinks, and we're glad we dined there as the food was amazing. My partner couldn't stop raving about the Barra. Thilina and his team were super helpful and their service at the restaurant at a busy period like that night was great! The art gallery is also a must see while your there. I'll certainly be back again this dry season :)

« I thought everything was really professional without being stuffy but very friendly »

As I explained to the Manager on duty when we arrived I expressed how different things were there after comments I had read on trip advisor. I am sure people who put these comments there were talking about the wrong hotel.........e.g. waited in a long line: my experience when we checked in there were others that had come on the same AAT Kings coach.... documentation had been pre printed and there was no delay in being given our keys to our room. I shall be advising Trip Advisor of this. Our stay was really comfortable and we had the BEST meal of barramundi in the restaurant that night. The other matter that was mentioned was the matter of the shower being over the both. So is the situation at the Adelaide Hilton where we stayed last week: don't people realise what a captial cost this would be to change things. After we went to our room I went back and spoke to the Manager. We have only just returned home to NSW so when I have another free moment I shall be advising trip advisor of my comments. We only stayed one night in middle of an AAT Kings two day Kakadu tour. Dinner in restaurant was lovely - beautifully fresh and tasty barramundi. While overall the stay was fine, we felt the hotel is a bit dated and could do with some much needed maintenance, e.g. dirty looking air con vents in room and common areas, and extremely knocked around, grubby back of bathroom door in our room. Service in bar area extremely slow.
