« Below expectations »

Hospitality fell short and cleanliness in the restaurant was a major concern. Some staff were unaware of what was going on. 1st evening I arrived and there was clearly a table available but I was told that there wasn't. After help from the barman we sat at the table that I noticed was available. 2nd night arrived in the restaurant at 6:00p.m and it was dirty with many crumbs on the bench seats (which should have been cleaned) and there were too many flies about on the windows and tables. Disappointing! Food was good.

Hi Simon, I’d like to inform you of our extremely unpleasant experience over the last weekend. I appreciate you for taking time to listen to my voice in advance. My wife and I stayed 2 nights last weekend as it was a long weekend in Hobart. We were quite satisfied with the presentation of the room (Delux room with King Bed). The room was clean and relaxing, and the bathroom was immaculate. However our nightmare began in the middle of the night. We woke up at about 3:30AM by beeping sounds of the hot water cylinder alarm which were loud enough to wake someone in the middle of anyone’s sleep. Obviously I didn’t want to fix myself as I wasn’t aware of the plant/problem. I ended up with making a phone call to reach your night duty manager (security personnel) and he had to take a battery out of the plant to stop the beeping. We struggled to get back to sleep again and got up very late next morning - ruined our plans for that morning. I made a complaint to the reception, but the staff (Nikki) could only offer 10% of the night rate - which is only about $14. I found it’s absurd as we ruined our travel of the day as well as our mood. As I didn’t accpet her offer she said she would talk to the manager and come back to me during the day (via my mobile). However, I couldn’t hear from her the day and went to the reception again, but it didn’t work (she wasn’t there). Next morning, I could see her when I checked out and she still hadn’t found out from her manager. She said the manager would contact me by lunch time, but I had to phone them again at the lunch time - it seemed they just let this go away. Anyway, I managed to talk to the manager (i cannot recall his name) which made me more furious. All he could offer was 10% of the night and 25% of thr next visit. I had to accept as he said that’s all he could. It was fine by then. But when I said to him I have very angry with me then he said that ‘you can now say I was offered a 35% discount - he literally said that 10% plus 25%’. Did he reallly think I was that stupid? 10% was only for the first night of our stay and the other 25% was for the next visit. I lost my words and had to finish the conversation. We were quite shocked by the way they treated costomer’s complaints. Even the email of the 25% discount hasn’t come to my inbox yet - of couse it doesn’t really matter now as we are not going to stay with Mercure any more. I am writing here with a hope that at least there is a person from the hotel listening to their customers not only for compliments but also for complaints, and reasonably handle an issue. « Just okay, not great »

Nice room, good room service but the noise from the function on Saturday night spoiled the experience. If we had known ahead of time we could have planned to be out but as it was we suffered through the noise until close to midnight. The hotel needs to decide if it is function centre or a hotel. Calls to reception about the noise were respected but nothing changed and the attitude of the DJ/ host (which we could clearly hear) was not to care about hotel guests.

Modern room overlooking gardens was nice, and in good location, but unfortunately on a busy bit of road (double glazing would be of big benefit!) Staff on reception were lovely and welcoming.

Easy check-in, and great welcome was an excellent start We made the bar and restaurant our stop after very active days. The venue has a great feel, and the staff excellent. Over the entire 3 days the staff were excellent, everywhere we went. Helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. This is certainly a happy place to stay. Thank you for making us feel so at home.

All was pretty good. Blinds appeared to be broken in room. Couldn’t put up. Maybe having the hotel sign out the window was a negative but that’s been picky. Staff were very helpful n obliging.

« Great service »

Very friendly staff, room was nice, restaurant breakfast was great. The only downfall was the room smelt a little smokey, I am assuming this is due to the fact that it was an old building and smoking is allowed on the balconies.

« Generally OK, but... »

A nice hotel, but three serious drawbacks: 1. Front desk doesn’t work till 7:30 AM. We watnted to store our luggage checking out at 7 AM but everything was literally shut down. At least you should inform at check-in that you don’t operate 24/7. 2. Installing a modern rainforest shower makes no sense if the water pressure is so low that you need 10 mins to rinse your hair! 3. Why don’t you offer slippers? Your direct competitors from BW do and it’s a really nice touch.

It was an adequate hotel at a good price. The refurbishment has been good in the rooms but it’s still an old hotel. The bed would have been lovely for one person but for two there is far too much movement for a good nights sleep. A very smelly food tray had been left outside another room in the corridor and this was very off putting. Also the use of air fresheners was overpowering and fortunately windows could be opened to get rid of the fake fragrance smells. It was nice though to walk into City Park from the hotel.
