« A stay I wish to forget »

The room was cold and austere, the toilet didn't flush, the TV didn't work, the hairdryer was useless and the window frame was rotten and mouldy.

« if you like the smell of Indian food and cold showers its perfect »

the lobby smells strongly of Indian food. not very nice. the hot water supply in the bathroom is very poor which means a very small amount of lukewarm water when taking the morning shower. if you want to make a cup of coffee or tea there is no bottled water in the room to take. and the tapwater smells of chlorine. I am not used to these kind of problems when staying the night in Ibis or Ibis Styles hotels.

Noisy, breakfast not very good . Room bog standard, I travel back and forth to reading to see my sick mother and I was so tired staying at this hotel due to lack of sleep I was no good to my mum at all. As the saying gos ( get wot you pay for)

I had a 2 night stay and during that time my Tav was t working. I reported this and was told it was fixed and it wasn’t. Had the TV have been working then my stay would have be finest yet than the smell of food throughout the rooms.

TV didn't work, I was accosted several times outside the hotel, the carpark was not safe, I don't like Indian food but that is all the restaurant served, breakfast I had to wait 45 minutes to be served a full English, the floors creaked, I had to carry my case up floor flights of stairs, very poor

« Basic hotel stay with no frills »

I stayed for one night for a work trip and arrived late and left early, so it just met my needs but no more. I was shocked that there was no lift and I had to lug my suitcase up multiple sets of stairs to the 3 rd floor. Room was basic. Floor not very clean and bed uncomfortable but having tea making facilities was a nice touch.

« Disappointed in the standard of the room. »

Whist the reception area and restaurant were good, my room was small (pokey) and definitely in need of a significant upgrade as the decor was very dated and tired looking. In addition the shower was barely big enough to accommodate me. Staff were pleasant and efficient and the breakfast was good.

Great to have parking and staff were welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was more than adequate. The room was comfortable. Slight issue of missing toiletry bag but that appears to have been resolved.

« Not a nice hotel for how much it cost! »

Very average stay, room wasn’t nice at all, bathroom had mould. Air con didn’t work just blew out heat. Nothing like previous ibis styles I’ve stayed in, this one has no ‘style’ whatsoever!

Overall, happy with my stay, clean, nice small looking room , although didn't like the bathroom, if I was to rate bathroom on its own, would give 3/10, very old compared to the room and not very clean. On the website only 'renovated' rooms are available to view, because I had a different expectation, which didn't quite meet the reality, but that's just my view in regards to expectations I had. Also, two nights in the row someone in the middle of the night was walking outside the room and you could feel the squeaky floor, was a bit annoying because woke up because of that twice (room was 216) On the positive note, great location of the hotel, super close to where I worked, to town centre and station. Good breakfast for me, as I am not a big fan of breakfasts, although not many options for someone who eats proper breakfast. Additionally, polite reception staff.

« booking wasnt correct. »

I booked a twin room for two nights for my 12 year or son and I. When I arrived I checked in (the check in process was fine) but when I got to the room it was a double bed and not two beds as a twin room should be. I went back to the reception to explain the room was not suitable for my son and I and I was told "its the only room we have". To which I replied something like "I'm afraid the room is not suitable as I booked a twin room with two beds". Once again I was told that "its the only room we have". Only when I started to get stressed and pushed the point that my son and I have no where else to stay did the receptionist say she will try to book us in at one of your other hotels. Which thankfully she did and we spent the two days at the George Hotel in Reading instead. So the person working at reception did successfully solve the problem but its a shame that I had to get stressed to to get to a point where she phoned up the other hotel, it seemed she had two attempts at trying to make us take the room with the "its are only room" line. So the outcome was OK but the journey to the outcome was stress that I didn't need on a holiday.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. A few things in the room could have been better. Would have been nice to have a do not disturb or make up the room sign for the door. I really did not need the room made up everyday, but had to put my toiletries away every morning because i could not stop the maid from coming in. The bathtub was extremely slippery and made it dangerous to stand and take a shower. the front desk was very nice and tried to locate a rubber bath matt but apparently you don't have them. The shower did not work well at all. The water pressure was very low and the pipes were creaking and making thumping noises

« A Tale of Two Nights - Friday Good, Saturday Less so. Unfortunate »

Good Things: The room was clean and warm. When I asked about borrowing an iron, there were a variety of ironing boards and irons available. The shower/bath was large and clean, lots of hot water and good water pressure. It was quiet outside, even with the window open. The facilities are clean and comfortable. Friday night: Good sleep, quiet, considerate guests. Areas to improve: One of the light-bulbs had blown, when I informed the front desk, this was written down, but not replaced. The toilet did not flush effectively. Multiple flushes were required and very slow refill. The TV remote had seen some use. TV had limited access to Freeview channels. "Poor signal" often displayed. Hot at night, despite the radiators being off and the window open, but little air movement. I was on a corridor with multiple rooms. All the door catches/mechanisms open and close effectively, but noisily, so you can hear every person moving along the corridor. Saturday night: Fire alarm at 2am, inconsiderate party returned at 3am and then moved noisily between rooms sporadically until 5:30am. Horrendous night's sleep (as solo traveler). The morning movement of people past the room to get to the main staircase for breakfast, and the cleaning/laundry rounds started at 7am.

The breakfast is great, but the wall is too thin. I could here all activities going on around my room e.g. people talking, flushing, air con compressor. I had a really bad time sleeping and ended up missing breakfast cause I couldn’t sleep from 2am-5am. The room next to me was very loud and although the reception called them for warning, I could still hear their small talks due to the thin walls. The cleaning lady is very polite and nice.

The room was nice and roomy. Bed was comfy. However, we had a broken window (sign saying hotel was aware) which meant outside noise was very loud making it difficult to get any sleep. An alarm went off outside for a prolonged period of time that was impossible to shut out. This meant we were left very tired in the morning rather than rested.
