« Poorly trained, opinionated and passive aggressive staff in the main. »

With the exception of two bar staff, we found the the passive aggressive, poorly trained and opinioned reception team very off putting. Including ourselves everyone we saw that interacted with reception was either made to feel small, they were causing an inconvenience or just left hanging while the incompetent staff tried in vain to deal with them. There clearly is a problem at reception the requires retraining or rehiring. The room was fair, but low on facilities, no AC or means to cool the humid room or a fridge to store cold beverages. Looking over the central court yard you faced a constant hum from the extraction fans. Room house keeping was fair to good with no real complaints, other than banging of vacuum into furniture when cleaning adjacent rooms.

Very disappointed our room was very basic, having booked a de lux double . We had no drawers for clothes [we were not overnight stays as your record will show] no shower caps no tissues fan inside the cupboard so when in use we tripped on it . Your reception was very vague at time not even sure of how to access voice mail very unprofessional .in their jobs but pleasant people. We have stayed in the Mercure many times and this quite honestly was our worst experience

« Nice stay nothing special »

Nice rooms but very hot and wasn’t able to open the window. The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful however the bar staff in the restaurant were dreadful unhelpful and didn’t know what they were doing. Breakfast was very good and the waiting staff very attentive

I was impressed at the way Reception Staff handled my booking of 3 nearby rooms for my husband’s surprise birthday celebration as they were astute enough to not comment about other individuals. We had a lovely table in the window of the bar for the surprise reveal and 3 small tables were adjoined for breakfast the next morning. There is no air conditioning in this beautiful hotel but fans are provided in the wardrobes for warm nights. We had a wonderful time so thank you.

« Disapointing compared to my last visit »

I had a room that was signposted badly but no advise given at reception before I went to the 3rd floor. I hadn't seen the additional £20 car parking charge when I booked. Probably my fault but it was not that obvious. The room had no fridge or free water which is often provided in rooms at half the cost. My bed was next to the wall that housed my neighbours bathroom which had a very noisy extractor fan buzzing most of the night. The walls are not well insulated and I heard every cough and noise from next door. I asked for a new room for my second night which was a big improvement. The breakfast options had been reduced since my last visit and the range on offer was poor. eg no cut grapefruit/orange segments or chopped fresh fruit. The self service area had No labelling on products either for people with food allergies.

« Lovely stay, huge room, average parking »

Room was much bigger than expected and perfect for our young daughter. Staff were all great. Parking is the main issue and why the hotel does not get full marks. Guildhall is a fairly convenient alternative. Maybe this could be discounted/subsidised. Will definitely return though.

« Very basic for a nice hotel »

We paid to upgrade our room but still found it to be very basic. Plastic shower tray, no air conditioning. The nespresso machine didn’t work and was filthy( full of empty pods). Conditioner smeared over the tiles in the shower. Just not what you expect from a good hotel brand. Really terrible dinner & the breakfast wasn’t great either. One of the machines was making an awful noise which we all mentioned but nothing was done

Enjoyed hotel..loved the room gave us the privilege room husband birthday..location great..will book again in the near future with either Rougemount or the sister hotel. One little thing (as worked as hotel receptionist). When your greeting customers tell them about parking and breakfast hrs etc..then add to refer to the paperwork if they forget or call ..as we were asked to refer straight to paperwork with our card..and we felt little dismissed. Sarah who had been emailing me was lovely very professional and caring. Overall we enjoyed our first time in Exeter.

« Great location! Perfect for a short stay in Exeter. »

Our stay at the Mercure Rougemont Hotel was lovely and relaxing. The only downfall was that we payed for a privilege room at the Mercure and expected a very clean room, however feel it definitely needed more attention (coffee machine was dirty with left over spillage's, shower was dirty, and the bed had some hairs in it).

« Looks upmarket but doesn't deliver anything special »

This is a great looking hotel in an excellent location right opposite Exeter Central station. Overall I had a great stay - the staff in particular were all very friendly and helpful. The room was pretty big and had quite a nice view, however there's no aircon and it was pretty stifling. The floorstanding fan provided wasn't a great substitute really, as it's pretty hard to sleep in such a breeze. Still it did help and the bed was nice and comfy so sleeping wasn't a problem. The only real let-down was the food - breakfast was generous but not well cooked - sloppy scrambled eggs, uneven sausages and desiccated bacon. It was all perfectly edible but not consistent with the expectation set by the high class look of the place. We also had a catered dinner one night. This set its sights fairly high and was nicely presented but was poorly executed - unbalanced flavours and textures served with frankly dreadful wine. Again the service was lovely and I couldn't fault the staff but I didn't rate their kitchen one bit.

« Nice hotel, but sleep disturbed by function »

The rooms were nice and the staff friendly, but it was impossible to sleep (on the first floor, anyway) until after 1pm when the function ended. I would ask if there's a ball on another time before booking. A shame, as it's a good location. Also, the cereal was stale.

I live in Barnstaple and a booked a night at the hotel for my son exams at Exeter college. I have been given room 103. It is the worst hotel room I have ever had. Small and very noisy. My son couldn’t concentrate at all that night because of the noise especially it was too hot and we had to open the room windows for some air. I have already booked more few nights until my son finishes his exam and I hope not to have this room again. However, I would like to thank the lady at the reception, with short blond hair, who was very helpful and did her best to sort my parking and coming preservations. Thanks
