I just feel like the hotel rooms are old and shabby and ours were dirty. The rooms and decor need a serious update but I feel like this is the Mercure brand as a whole as this is the second time I have stayed at one of their hotels and they have both been the same. Old and dirty and gross. I won’t be staying again with any of the Mercure hotels. At least the staff are super nice at this one - the other one they were horrible and rude

The hotel staff made you feel very welcome and during our stay were more than happy to assist you with any problem that arose. My son's wedding went off without a hitch, which was in part helped by the hotel staff. The only concern we did have is we thought the room we stayed in could have updated a little, but it was clean and tidy.

The Hotel has some very good points but there are some issues: The water system, especially off the main pipes (e.g. upstairs) is poor - water pressure is low and the shower temperature runs hot/cold and often doesn't keep its temperature stable. The bar prices for some soft drinks are very high (lime and soda still £3.40) and the tray charge for room service is £5, whereas in other hotels (some of a higher rating) its usually more like £2.50 to £3.50 Some of the equipment in the gym is old or incomplete; there needs to be heavier bar bells over the 28kg current maximum. The free weights bars are old and inadequate and there are limited free weights to go on those bars. The air conditioning in the gym also needs an overhaul/update as it often fails. Staff turnover is also an issue, which means constantly asking for the same things and reminding staff of regular customer/Gold member entitlements. They need more induction training and there must be an issue with the Hotel if churn is so high?

The water pressure is a complicated and urgent project, the work for this is already underway, I appreciate this is timely, however we want to ensure this is done correctly as it is very important. The hotel staff were excellent and the room was very comfortable. Unfortunately, the current hotel layout means that when there is a wedding (or similar) function occurring other hotel guests are unable to access facilities such the bar and public rooms including the restaurant. This is particularly so on a Saturday night which is the subject to the dearest charge.

I liked the classy period feel of the bedroom. I chatted with friends in the bar, but this was quite noisy. There might be a cosier, quieter bar somewhere else in the hotel. Normally I wouldn't want a TV on in the background, though. I thought some of the bar staff could have been friendlier. The breakfast was good, but without quite the variety of options, e.g. starters/side dishes, as some other hotels. (When you ask about Le Club, I'm not sure what this refers to).

Overall we were fairly satisfied with our stay at the hotel. Initially, we were placed in a very dingy bedroom which was in need of refurnishing ( the beds slid all over the place with the slightest touch ! ). The room was very noisy and it needed to be freshened up with some lighter colours ( brown carpet didn't help ). There was secondary double glazing which appeared somewhat grubby and did not work. The noise from the road outside was unbearable at times. We appreciate we were late in booking and only limited rooms were available but all previous Mercure Hotels we have stopped at were far superior to this one. We did tell the staff we were dissatisfied with the accommodation and in fairness to them they were very good and found us an alternative room. No complaints whatsoever about the staff and additionally the food was very good ( both breakfast and dinner ), as was the swimming pool. There were problems with the steam room and it was either too cold or too hot. Infact, it was dangerously hot on one occasion and should have been closed down until the problem was rectified. I would not of complained if you had not asked me (twice ) for my views. We will still stop at Mercure hotels in the future.

Your staff are absolutely brilliant very helpful and friendly The room was far too hot I dread to think what it’s like on a very hot day. There was a tour group at the hotel they were on the same floor as us. They made so much noise a 4 30am it was ridiculous. Perhaps when people book they should be pre warned about this happening.

The room was nice, but was in need of slight repairs. The window in the room (136) did not close properly and you could hear traffic all night. The family in the room above us had a toddler who appeared to be running up and down all evening, i now this can not be helped but the hotel did not appear ti be very busy, so I was not sure why they were directly above other people. A fire alarm went off in the middle of the night and there was no apology from staff at breakfast, which might have been a nice touch after being woken in that manner. The staff appeared in need of motivation from management and a smile. They were pleasant ish. One man at reception was not very helpful and remained leaning over the computer and just looked at my daughter and I after we came to the desk to find out the leisure facilitues passcode to get through the door. The shower pressure was nearly non existent in the morning. I paid for the shortfall between the cost of a room for two nights £188 and the Tesco voucher £180 and breakfast, which was £28. I used the chip and pin. The evening after we left I noticed that the hotel had changed this to £200. I have contacted the hotel and the number on the Tesco web site and as yet had no reply or change of charge (2 days). The hotel very kindly gave my daughter a birthday card and a welcome drink voucher. The cleaning staff were lovely, kind and polite. I would not recommended the hotel only on the attitude of the staff. I am still waiting for the outcome of my bill.

A short one night stay. Checking was easy and the staff were all friendly and helpful. Breakfast and the dining room were good too. Downsides were, compared to other Mercures, the room and bathroom fittings were a bit old and shabby and could use a refurbishment. The shower in particular was old and wouldn't stay in a position without dropping. On the whole, it was ok for a short stay but not the standard nor value for money I'd expect from an Mecure level hotel.

Mixed feelings. The room was satisfactory, two single beds were not secured and kept moving. I nearly fell off when I tried to sit o the edge of the bed. The room booked for a clue had one bath towel between us. There was no water in the room, l querried and I was told it was standard room so no water is provided. I had to buy water from the nearby petrol station. There was only one shower gel between us to share. On the second day we went for breakfast, we were not allowed to sit where we wanted. We were the only black people in the dining room, were separated from the other guests who were all white. I counted and there were four rows tables between us. I felt that was less favourable treatment.

The stay did the job. The bathroom could of done with some repair looked a bit shoddy but functioned just fine. It was a shame that bigger parties got priority. You had to walk around the building to get to reception if there was a function. Not the best if raining! The food was lovely in the Oak & Avocado Bar. breakfast was nice also. The staff were all lovely.
