« Comfortable hotel, friendly staff, breakfast a bit of a nightmare. »

Everything was great apart from breakfast, lack of seating, no coffee, took ages to get some, then there was no milk, I think you needed more staff. Then plates ran out, staff couldn’t replenish everything fast enough which left people waiting to just get the different parts of their breakfast. All in all though the staff were very friendly and polite, just needed more of them and maybe a bit of management...

I booked two rooms, one accessible and one regular. Check in was quick and efficient, the person manning the front desk was very friendly. The room was clean, and had good accessibility. The welcome drink was appreciated and the bar / restaurant workers made us feel welcome. The beds / bedding were great as always at pretty much any Accor hotel, I always try to book with you guys because the accessibility is good and the beds are great. I don't really care about much else as long as I can sleep well. Couple of small negatives - the parking structure is extremely narrow. Even the accessible spaces are very tight to get into. The parking building did look fairly old and being in the city centre I'm guessing you can't just raze it and start over. I tried to contact the main reception via the number listed on your website before my stay and on numerous occasions did not get anyone picking up. My email was replied to but it was very short and only half answered my question.

It was good but unluckily I got a room which was designed for physically challenged people. I didn't notice it initially but had to deal with minor inconvenience later. The drawback of this room is that the wash basin was fitted too low and had to bend a lot, same with the toilet which was not ergonomic for me.

I had many issues with my room, no water pressure in first room for shower, a lot of seagulls trapped in the netting outside my window which made lots of noise. I changed rooms to have cold water in the morning from the shower again.

« Very small room »

I booked and paid for a standard double but I'm sure the room was compact. It was so small one side of the bed was against the wall and only 2 feet from the other wall. The refurbishment has made the rooms look like a teenage boy may like. Very urban and shabby with metal tubing and sheets of wood for a table and industrial metal piping for hanging clothes. The lighting was incredibly poor that I couldn't see very much once the daylight went. the bathroom was very old and shoddy with the shower fittings rusted and taps falling apart. Overall a very disappointing stay I'm afraid and certainly didn't warrant the cost. Sorry but I won't be staying again

Dirty room, dried blood stain on duvet, dirty net curtains, dirty marks on wall, large dirty stain on carpet. Room was changed, that room had dirty shower basin and then cold water when we showered. The reception did not seem overly bothered by all the problems we had

The location is great and staff very helpfull. The room was very nice but there was a shower blockage and it was not resolve duraining my time there that meant we had to use all our bath towels to stop the water flooding the bedroom . We will not be going to this Hotel again on our next visit.

There is NO WAY this is a 4 star hotel. It is run down, outdated and dirty. Its not often I treat myself to a night in a hotel but as I was in between houses, I thought I would on this occasion How extremely disappointing. Despite being given an upgrade the room was in a terrible state. There was dust everywhere. The window wouldnt open. There was a dirty Wet stain on the floor by the bed that hadnt been cleaned. The cleaner dusted the top of the telly (all over my belongongs), the top of the mrror and the pictures on the wall, ' lifted up the tray with the kettle on to dust UNDER the tray, while.failing to dust the kettle, the desk where i would be working, the bedside tables, nor clean the chair where i would sit. I know they are not from England but Do these people have NO training whatsoever?  So i thought Id go and have a sauna. I had to go outside and cross the road to get.to the Spa. Someone was talking very loud and kicking a football in reception. Not a very relaxing start. In the changing rooms, lots of people were having problems because the locker doors were broken and wouldnt work. Floor tiles were lose and cracked in the changing room and round the pool. The Changing room Floor was filthy. The Floor round the swinming pool was filthy. There were Hairs all over the floor.  There was mold everywhere especially round the cracked tiles and where it hadnt been cleaned properly. The air ducts were filthy...a breeding ground for mold which can make you very ill.  The Lounge area was filthy on the floor. The Sauna floor was dirty. Someone who had been a.member for 6 months said there had been hairs stuck on the wall in the steam room for weeks. The floor round the pool and the changing room was wet, dangerous and noone came to clean it the entire time I was in there. When i left asked where I could put my plastic bottle and if there was any recyling bins. The answer..NO! No surprise by this time. Nonetheless a Shocking standard for a hotel chain! I was charged £75 per night and told there was parking but after I Parked I saw that it would cost a further £15 a night which no-one had advised me about. I know this was a relatively cheap hotel...but it is not cheap for your average person ..this is an expensive night out as a treat to yourself, and to find it filthy and in such a state is more than disheartening, I felt ripped off,  especially when you can pay £50 many places elsewhere and stay in a spotless hotel. While the staff were lovely and very quick to respond to my needs, this is an absolutely Shocking neglect from management, who clearly have no respect nor regard for their customers, nor any desire to maintain or keep their premises in a fit state so it is an enjoyable experience for their guests. Obviously they are off enjoying themselves elsewhere with the extensive profits. Shameful and no way to run a business I hope they lose their 4star status until they are forced to improve their standards for future guests and members of the spa because there is no way this 4 star has been earned..

Ill thought out rooms. 6 hangers on a rail that was not high enough to hang trousers or a regular knee length dress. Safe was on lowest shelf, you had to almost lay on floor to use. Kettle was on a very low shelf, clothes rail above (what about steam on clothes) but that didn't matter because there was no socket there anyhow kettle had to be moved across room to plug in. There was a mirror near door but socket was across on opposite wall so hair drying had to be executed kneeling or standing. No shelf to put anything on at all. A three legged stool was one side of bed with phone on and other side had a 1950's garden table. Very poorly thought out decor not practical at all. We will not be staying at a Mercure hotel again if this is what they are like. We were in Bristol for a family funeral and did not like our hotel. Beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was very good.

« Lack of attention to detail »

I have stayed previously and in any many other Mercures and had higher expectations. The room was small and basic, with cheap uncomfortable pillows, and a lot of noise from neighbouring rooms/corridor. Breakfast was terrible - not only was food now great, but coffee machine was broken (and replacement filter coffee was not good), juices glasses had run out, the table I was assigned was given to someone else while I was getting food, there wasn’t enough cutlery, the server forgot that it was possible to order cooked breakfast... With a Mercure I expect an ‘experience’ element to the stay, and staff going out of their way to make me comfortable. This felt like renting a cheap room.

« Concentrate more on the details and less on the dressing »

First off, staff fantastic and very helpful. Secondly, too much attention to dressing and not enough to detail. Reason: 1) no toilet roll (or holder) in room on arrival; 2) excessive noise from air vent in bathroom (a basic cause of sleepless nights); 3) No desk per se - virtually all business guests will need room for laptop etc. - the small table hopelessly inadequate and reclining chair not appropriate to sit at table with; 4) small tray with tea etc. kept stored away - it has a shiny surface causing items to immediately unbalance upon moving; 5) breakfast - filter coffee only, this is not a cheap hotel and I expect a proper choice - e.g cappuccino; no table service, e.g. would you like porridge omelette? Very poor in comparison to Premier Inn, where both hotel and breakfast are cheaper. In short, pay over the odds for ambience but would receive better all round guest experience at Premier Inn (despite price difference).
